We have to trash your bias because of my bias for both bands. Epic fail on arguing that point man, sorry.
Blink fans can say whatever they want about GD, Blink is pretty much the first ever modern emo band, Green Day is far from it.
Blink has and always will be more pop than punk. That is a fact. To say that opinion wrong is baffling but I’m not even sure where you were during the last wave of punk. I know where I was, it was actually there.
it’s ok if you like Blink, nobody is saying not to like them, but don’t try and force feed that they’re this band up there with Green Day. They’re not. They have some ok singles and had some success in the 90s and early 00’s and that’s about it.
As for what Blink fans say about Green Day… I had a blink fan tell me Travis is a better drummer than Neil Peart…. That’s plain ignorance. Their fan base always seemed to be more casual music fans so they seem to draft more unusual false beliefs. In my experience Ive found Green Day fans to be more aware and respectful when speaking about legends in music. Which is expected considering the levels of respect Green Day has gotten from several different areas in the industry.
I remember the discussions in 2002 very vividly. I remember the Blink fans always being aggressive, I remember the older kids telling the younger kids with no aggression at all “no the better band definitely will always be Green Day. You will see it eventually”. At the time I wasn’t really a part of the discussion myself.
I did see Blink on tv alot at that time and my initial reaction was “ok that wasn’t as bad as I initially thought it would be but this doesn’t warrant the aggressive push I see every day”. At the time Green Day was not being played - this is documented accurately in Bullet In A Bible. I hadn’t heard them since the ending of the 90s.
When GD came around 2 years later and I first took that in being older in the 2000s something resonated with me instantly. I remember telling my dad “these guys are different, it’s not like Sum 41 or anything like that. These guys seem to have a lot more potential and there’s something different about their songwriting and arrangements.” Blink never really struck that moment with me. I was a fan when I was 12 or 13 because I was a kid and the songs were funny but that was about it.
and even if I am “biased” it comes from a place of being a pro musician at that time and actually being a huge part of the punk scene in that time. But go ahead tell me all about it.
Exact same here. Let’s wait for the actual real recording it of it.
