  2. This would be a good time for Green Day to release more archival stuff from the vault while we wait for something new. Wish they’d do that more often. What ever happened to that Oakland Coffeehouse thing where you signed up and saw rare videos and BTS stuff? Another idea that lasted just as long as it took to harvest our data 😠

  3. They've been filming the Forever Now music video for 6 years now. It should be good!

  4. Fun idea but it seems like kind of a longshot. Nobody casual fan is going to sit and watch them not play Basket Case for 2 1/2 hours

  5. What world were you living in that we got something for dookie? The Woodstock vinyl which just marked the 25th of Woodstock and even then was just for record store day?

  10. For dookie there was never an anniversary eddition. Hoping for it to be remembered for its 30th. But hope it doesn't push the new album release for late 24

  11. Didn’t we already get something for the 25th?

  12. ...Green Day's coming down across the alley way! up on the boulevard like a zip gun on parade... I just noticed the change of narrator in that song. The first verse is an outside perspective. Jimmy's coming to town, Jimmy's doing this and that. Then after the count of one, two, one two three four, the narrator IS Jimmy. Very interesting. Was it Whatshername in the beginning, witnessing Jimmy's arrival into town? And will we hear more from these characters in 2024? Maybe it's not a concept album, but they do make appearances in certain songs throughout the album. Also, How Whatshername Has Been would be a crazy song title.

  14. Whatever they put out now, I am pretty sure some/most of us will be disappointed by it anyways. I'm not expecting an amazing single but I do hope they put out something listenable

  15. I have a theory. With all the American Idiot references in the teasers, and the fact that the 20th anniversary is next year, what if the new album is an American Idiot prequel, the tour setlist is the new album and American Idiot both played in full, and an American Idiot 20th anniversary edition released at the end of the year?

  20. I don't think Walker was the right choice for Green Day but I don't think it's fair for people to blame the problems with the album on him when the sound of the album was almost surely down to Billie, which is what it's been like since at least American Idiot. I think the issue with Walker was probably not doing what Cavallo or Vig could do which was challenge the band to do better than they have before. Rob, as he's worked with them for most of their career, was clearly able to do that. After C&V, he asked the band if that was the best they could do and they said no and made American Idiot. Butch Vig is the reason Billie ended up writing Restless Heart Syndrome as he had the melody of that song for years and Vig made him write lyrics for the song. He's also the reason why H&H is on the album too. Both these songs are amongst my favourite GD songs and I'm so glad they were made and put on the album I think every band once they've been around enough kind of have the same problem. Where they have many different types of fans that prefer different types of music. Like look at Weezer for example. There are groups that like the Blue album the most, then those who prefer Pinkerton, those who prefer their 00's stuff, their 2010s stuff, their poppier stuff, their more rock sounding stuff etc. You just can't please them all. There are plenty of other bands I could mention to. Linkin Park after Meteora would drastically change their sound for each new album and fans had their own preferences. There are a ton of other examples I could give And even if GD did manage to make an extremely commercially successful album that is considered a "masterpiece", there will still be parts of the fanbase that wouldn't like it, or at least not as much as their older stuff. All of their albums have had their detractors. Dookie was considered a sellout, Insomniac was considered a disappointment after Dookie by many, Nimrod released Good Riddance and experimental stuff which a lot of older fans would've also considered a sellout. Warning was hated by many. AI was a huge shift and while very successful was disliked by a lot of older fans. Same with 21CB. The trilogy, of course, was hated by many. RevRad and FOAMF, no different, also got a lot of hate and criticism I don't think the band should care about trying to please everyone because they can't. It's just not possible

  21. Theres some dude on YouTube that makes crazy Green Day conspiracy videos. He’s already talked about 1981. Nope they’re cemented already on back catalog alone. A huge part of GD’s success during AI was the discovery of their back catalog by a new generation. Very few bands put together a discography of this quality so even if band isn’t adding to it a lot of other bands fall short still despite that. Notorious for a great live show as well. I’m no fan of butch walker but in all fairness he didn’t write the songs on the album. I love Rob Cavallo a lot for all of his work not just Green Day work, but even with the trilogy how did the guitars end up sounding like that? Shit happens, sometimes we go to work and we have good periods of output and sometimes we suck. We’re humans. And ps Butch knows a lot about modern digital recording methods, he is still very much a pro. Green Day always sounded better on tape though. Rob is the best producer for Green Day no doubt. He knows how to channel their chaos. Watch all these videos over the years of them recording with him. He’s the only one who’s ever had them sit there with an attention span for more than 2 mins. They respect Rob. Butch Vig was also a great producer for the band. Those are the two who stick out for me across Green Day’s career. They both got maximum Green Day.

  22. Rob Cavallo is the fixer, I'm guessing. Similarly, Butch Vig likely had a large influence on 21CB. RevRad was pretty good for self-produced but imagine if it had a Cavallo/Vig touch.

  23. That was my problem with FOAM. This whole “we’re not taking it seriously” thing is fine in small doses but it gets to a point where it’s like “well if the band doesn’t care, why should I?”. I don’t want to see Green Day become U2 but there’s nothing wrong with taking pride in your work. That and we waited 4 years for 26 minutes of new music. And the inconsistent production style. And the songs that weren’t really about anything. And that stupid fucking album art.

  26. I'm curious to know the director(s) of the music videos for this new album. My favourite videos have always been the ones that were directed by Mark Kohr. Walking Contradiction music video is a favourite too. I know the artists/labels do not prefer expensive music videos like they did in the 90s. I have no doubt that this album will be special. Hopefully the music videos will be unique as well(rather than not so special performance type music videos).
