This discussion is off topic and needs to end now. As Clockwise put it there is no debate, trans rights are human rights. Just like the people who thought it was "common sense" not to let black and white people have the same rights in the 60s, then later the people who thought it was "common sense" not to give gay people the same rights, it is bigots on the wrong side of history now crying "common sense" to justify their transphobia. There are too many transphobic comments in this thread already and I don't want to see any more in this thread or on this site. Anyone making any more transphobic comments will be suspended. And I ask that everyone stop posting about this topic now regardless of your position. Posts about the upcoming album only from here please.28 points

There is no debate. Trans Rights are Human Rights. And if you don't agree with that, I have nothing to say to you.16 points

That’s hilarious when all I see from the right is outrage over everything from books to M&Ms to Disney to Bud Light 😂16 points

Jesus fucking Christ, guys. It doesn’t take much effort to be kind to people. Some of you should give it a try sometime.11 points

You’re right, it does suck to have to be upset my human rights are consistently being violated.11 points

Why is this still going on? Brittney shouldn't even have been posted about in the first place. This is a Green Day forum for talking about the band and the members of the band, not for talking about their family members. Because one of their family members happens to post stupid and ignorant shit doesn't make her magically eligible for discussion here. It's simply off topic and goes against our long standing rule of not discussing the band member's personal lives and family members. Transphobia shouldn't be tolerated and I'm glad since it was brought up it (and the transphobic comments from some people here) was called out. But it's been said now and it still isn't anything to do with the topic of this thread. Back on topic please.9 points

Ik Hermione said to stop posting about this but I just need to respond to this to say being trans is not a mental illness. Any mental illness that trans people have is the result of severe transphobic bullying that they face. Online, I see trans people get more abuse than any other group just for being trans9 points

Remember back in 2019 when Green Day said the good thing about being free from their last contract is they could now release music more frequently and in any form they want? Like they could literally learn a new song and release it that night and how exciting that sounded to them? And now here we are waiting a year and a half for this record to come out. How’s that new contract going for you?8 points

I agree with Green Day Inc. Our favorite band is missing in action. Time to call out the FBI? Milk cartons? A delay is understandable if they would at least talk to us.7 points

I’ve never got the point of being so far left wing. It must really suck to be offended by everything all the time.7 points

This isn't the thread for this, but your statement is completely off-base and inaccurate. Children are not just being "subjected" to this stuff. That's a myth fabricated by one segment of the population. It only is a thing if said child is experiencing feelings that they need help dealing with. And in many cases, schools are where children actually trust the adults they are around. Parents who are overly concerned about this are REALLY shitty parents who don't have the trust of their children.7 points

Holy shit dude, I’m sorry, but this is just an incredibly bad argument? First of all, who do you think you’re talking to on this site? I’m not a westerner. A lot of people aren’t. It may surprise you, but the concept of human rights isn’t limited to the USA. People generally tend to think they’re entitled to their human rights, regardless of where they come from - does that surprise you? Some people don’t live in the United States, aren’t white, aren’t straight and cis and for some reason everyone still demands human rights. Is your mind a little more open yet? A few more points: - you’re absolutely right that people’s ability to execute their rights is limited by governments, but doesn’t it then make sense to want the government to make these laws less exclusive? Laws can be anything people make them out to be and there’s always going to be a push to set the limits far enough for people to feel free. In some way, it’s even benefitial to the governments, since it’s just easier to stay in power when (most) people can’t see the bars of the cage. After all, the USSR is long gone, while you’re still taking about rights in the USA. - legislation shifts, rights as a concept remain. If human rights were equal to current law, you would be saying that at the time, there was nothing wrong going on during the Nurnberg laws or the Jim Crow laws, but obviously it was and I hope we can agree on that.6 points

Seriously guys, can we please stay on topic? Let's really just stay away from politics here, unless of course the album ends up being another political rock opera.6 points

History has always been unkind to minorities, trans people have always existed whether people want to acknowledge it or not, there was a sex institution built in Germany in the early 1900s to research this kind of thing and then it was destroyed by the Nazis in an attempt to erase us, and currently some members of the US government are also trying to erase us by legislating us out of existence. Nazis are still protesting trans people and drag queens, so people posting anti trans shit online are seriously taking the same stance as the Nazis do, which definitely makes someone a shitty person https://www.hrc.org/resources/seven-things-about-transgender-people-that-you-didnt-know Ok, you may be a different person now, that's to be expected, it's part of growing up, but in your personal growth have you questioned your gender at all or have you always been sure of it? Being unsure is ok, people should feel free to explore who they are, but they shouldn't have to wait a certain age to explore that, especially after the irreversible changes that come from "growing up naturally". No one is forcing an agenda on kids, what's happening is kids are brave enough to talk to their parents about their gender and then typically after seeing a therapist the parents will make decisions with their children and medical professionals as to what's best for them at that age. No one is going around "mutilating children" as certain politicians like to say, those kinds of surgeries aren't permitted until you're over 18, and even then they usually require a lot of prerequisites to make sure it's what the person truly wants/needs. Teens can be given puberty blockers to pause puberty until they're old enough to make the decision and be sure of it. States are currently trying to take away rights for even trans adults to receive hormone replacement therapy, and states like Texas and Florida are trying to steal your child from you if you let them come out as transgender, and Florida wants to take your child if you as an adult with your own legal free will are transgender. The shit these states are doing definitely seem like fascism to me, but I didn't call Brittney a fascist, and I think the stuff she's posting is ignorant, not common sense. Of course people are free to disagree with each other, but when the government is trying to take rights away from a certain group of people then a line has been crossed and things have gone too far. I know this is very off topic but I felt a need to reply, this is the last I'll be posting about it in this thread6 points

Actually, science acknowledges that their feelings about their gender are legitimate and it has nothing to do with their surroundings. You are spewing dangerous tropes that have been surrounding the LGBTQ+ population for quite awhile and are consistently and regularly proven to be inaccurate. I kindly suggest that you educate yourself and maybe actually talk to some people that deal with this everyday because, you know, they live it. If you don't, you're literally just an asshole with baseless and easily refutable opinions.5 points

And again...this isn't actually happening. Children aren't just out there getting surgery or "treatment" in order to alter their physical appearance. Again...this is a giant myth being propagated by a small segment of the population. Gender affirming surgery is typically only done for people after a certain age, and even then it is after A LOT of conversation with trained medical professionals. Furthermore, it has an EXTREMELY low rate of people who have 2nd thoughts or regret their choice...like...ridiculously low when compared to almost ANY other surgical procedure. So again...a small amount of loud idiots are making up shit that isn't even happening.4 points

That people who are different from you don’t have the right to exist? There’s a name for people who think that way and yes they’re shitty people if they can’t live and let live With all due respect you don’t know what you’re talking about and need to educate yourself on what age appropriate gender affirming care is for children with gender dysmorphia.4 points

Mike is very good friends with laura jane grace and he is a big LGBT+ supporter so I wouldn't take his wife's view as his own, she is entitled to believe whatever she wants to believe (even though i strongly disagree with what she is saying/suggesting because i'm trans myself) let's get back to talking about music instead of culture war stuff 🥰4 points

I've waited many years for other bands to release music, this wait isn't a huge deal compared to some of them. I'm happy Green Day releases music as frequently as they do, they could easily do so at a much slower pace than they have been. I'm excited for whatever comes next and certainly it can't be too far away, though admittedly I'd like more updates from the band!3 points

Thanks for the book support. It's funny the publisher started Sonicbond a few years ago and they're a UK company hence their European distribution being made a priority before it hits the rest of the world. They started a few years ago and you can tell they were into UK artists, and had love for both 1970s classic rock and progressive rock. They only have a few artists from 1990 and beyond so that was when I pitched Green Day and it was a go. They're too famous for 3 decades now around the world to deny let's face it. I guessed there might be significant downtime for the band, so it was a suitable time to sum up their catalog. Unfortunately, because of the Nimrod box delay, we ran out of time to include the previously unreleased material from that box. I had so much more written too on these early EPs and albums, but yeah, you'll notice the songwriting patterns and how they grow the sound - it's a band worth exploring deeply because they never settled too long musically balancing power and smart dynamics, and Armstrong got better with every release as a lyricist - just more and more clever during the 1990s into the 2000s and he was always resonant.3 points

Last night I was watching some late Green Day performances and this one caught my attention. On hitchin a ride Billie said something like “it’s gonna be a long time until next summer”. Could it be? Why specifically THIS summer? If it was a show in New Jersey the most probably we would know by now 👀 33:26 minute is when he mentioned that btw.3 points

Or better still "When September Ends". Maybe an omen for the album release in October. Whatever we strive for we should always have hope, through faith, which leads to love. And right now I'd love to have a new GD record in my hands.3 points

It's literally not Britt's fault at all. There was absolutely zero reason to bring up Britt posting transphobic bullshit in this thread. It has absolutely nothing to do with the new GD album at all. I fully support trans rights and agree that Britt and others who post the same bullshit should be called out, educated or whatever needs to happen. But really, the way some of y'all behave when it comes to Britt is actually concerning. Like we've established that she has some pretty gross views, but it honestly seems like some of you are sitting there chomping at the bit, waiting for her to say something so you can come on here and talk shit about her and try and claim that she's gonna break up the band or blame her for not getting new music or some other ridiculous thought. It's just completely delusional, and also kinda obsessive - people could just block/unfollow her so they don't have to see her bullshit (anything Mike/green day related she posts will likely get posted on here anyway so you won't miss anything), but no y'all literally make a point of waiting for her posts so you can have a HateOnBrittParty on GDC. Do you see how ridiculous it is? You might think it makes you look good because you're "calling out transphobia" but you're actually not. Britt won't see this, most of us here support trans people anyway, so it's not going to achieve anything or really make any difference, it's not about calling out transphobia at all - all you're doing is using that as an excuse to spread hate and insults at every opportunity you get, which not only isn't the way anybody should be responding to transphobia, but is also pretty gross behaviour in itself. There's a time and a place to call out transphobia, and that's when and where it's happening, not on a random Green Day thread that won't be seen by the transphobes and that has nothing to do with the band member's family's opinions anyway. Sorry Hermione but I have to say something, I've absolutely had it with all the Britt dragging, it's exhausting having to read this shit time and time again just because people keep bringing it up when there's literally no reason to even be talking about her on here.3 points

I could not see any anti-trans comments, just somebody speaking their mind with common sense. That doesn’t make somebody a bully or fascist or evil. If you think that, then you’ve led an extremely privileged and sheltered life. These are important issues that need addressing & children should not be subject to said topics and choices. That’s just basic common sense. If you think children and early teens should be witness to this sort of thing then you are also a little bit twisted and weird. Let children and teens grow up naturally. Hell, I’m a completely different person now to who I was 5 years ago, let alone when I was a child.3 points

Well the facts are that you can give children puberty blockers to treat gender dysphoria and the facts are that the effects are non reversible. Unless you’ve been living under a rock I don’t see why the fuck we’re even having a debate on this.2 points

Almost like being overly obsessed and adherent to one side or the other and completely dismissing the other is unhealthy and extremist. Western people love their "rights." They talk about them as if they are a static or fixed concept that is owed despite the fact that they are constantly shifting and bestowed by government. Talk to some non-Westerners about rights and open your mind a bit about what you think you are owed.2 points

Just stumble upon a comment from Mike's wife about trans issues on instagram.... is she dumb? I wonder if this affect their friendship or the album project. I hope Mike don't take her wife side on this subject. Because Green Day wouldn't agree with this shit. Seriously Britt, shut the fuck up.2 points
