I think it's all linked though. Being a speculation topic, the discussions will include past albums and individual songs and whether or not they will have an influence on the new album. It's happened before, so 'The Forgotten' discussion led to maybe going off topic slightly. So, what the fuck does it matter. In my ignorance I had never heard of 'slap delay' so I've learnt something. And it's not the first time. It creates an interest and guys post their views, as with every topic. This is what this community is all about. So, we're in page 288. What does that tell you. It's one of and maybe the most popular topics going at the moment. IMHO a very interesting and enjoyable topic. It can be serious; it can be a laugh. And guys keep coming back for more. If the topic was shit, we would still be one page 1.5 points

I don't see EJN as being similar to Holiday. The only thing I can think of as a notable similarity is having a bass/drum interlude in the middle of the track but that to me isn't enough to make that conclusion. 21 Guns is similar to BOBD but that alone isn't really enough to suggest 21CB is just a recycled album that takes from older albums. There are a ton of tracks on there that are very unique, different from everything that came before. Before the Lobotomy, Christian's Inferno, Peacemaker, the Viva la Glorias. Those recycled melodies aren't really a big deal imo because otherwise the tracks are completely different from each other. Static Age uses the melody of Church on Sunday but if you disregard that fact, are these 2 songs similar in any other notable way? American Eulogy uses melody of Deadbeat Holiday but again, these are completely different songs in basically every other way, and I can't think of any other recycled melodies in the album 21CB definitely takes elements from AI, but that to me doesn't suggest laziness, lack of inspiration or ideas. I guess it just comes down to personal opinion and preferences. Do you think these elements came from being out of ideas, or do you think it's just a logical evolution of what they were doing on AI, call backs to some of their older songs (In an album that calls back to Song of the Century and the instrumental intro to the title track in American Eulogy and See the Light, it also doesn't really seem unreasonable for someone to believe those "recycled melodies" were also intentional). I mean, Billie has compared LNOE to some of the songs from their early EPs but despite the similarities, I think of LNOE as a completely different beast. I personally think every song on 21CB is at the very least a strong 8/10, that's definitely not unique to 21CB but considering it's an 18 track album, I think that makes for a very good album. This is also going to come down to personal opinion. Are those completely original tracks good enough to compare to the fresh, original ideas of AI or older albums? I think so4 points

But don’t worry guys, we’re in the year of the new album, so it’s only a matter of time before we hear the announcement!!4 points

Yes, could also sound like that. Anyway, they're just humans, they make mistakes. Like we all do. And overall, I think they all did a really great job with the production and mixing of the Trilogy, so we can forgive small mistakes here and there 😄 I think a separate thread about production fails in Green Day songs would be very short, because at least their albums always sound great and are almost perfectly recorded and mixed.4 points

Green Day will be the focus of this particular summer. Don't ask me how I know that.4 points

Another off topic but today I had a listen to American Idiot album after a long time and I've gotta say ... Damnnnn that album is on another level..from start to finish..it was just amazing.. sure the other albums are just good enough but I've gotta say AI is on another level.. Even non GD fans love it.. I even wonder if they'll produce another album at that level, but i doubt it..3 points

I would say yes, but only if their economies or health insurance cover for a good PTSD therapy.3 points

What about another angry song like the Grouch? “The world owes me, so fuck you!”2 points

21CB is probably more intricate, but AI has more Green Day style, emotion, and better lyrics. And just a more succinct and forceful product overall.2 points

Don’t agree. American Idiot is levels above. I feel that 21cb, they felt so pressured to top that, that they chucked too many songs on it & because they were out of ideas they recycled old melodies - church on Sunday / static age. 21 guns is another attempt at a BOBD. east Jesus nowhere was another attempt at holiday. it’s a shame because there’s magic like BTL and see the light but American Idiot is miles ahead of 21cb because everything on it is so inspired and fresh.2 points

We all need something to talk about to pass the time as we wait. But don’t worry guys, we’re in the year of the new album, so it’s only a matter of time before we hear the announcement!!2 points

This thread has evolved from "speculation about the new Green Day album" to "wtf is that sound at 1:56 in The Forgotten??"2 points

It will always pain me that RevRad/nothing from it got nominated for a Grammy.2 points

The "glitch" in The Forgotten at 1:56 is just the Slap Delay which you can hear in almost every Green Day song that Chris Lord-Alge has ever mixed. In the trilogy it's just a bit more present than in AI or 21stCB.1 point

Someone posted that they had the demo for Cigarettes and Valentines in their collection: https://archive.org/details/img-3775_202301 I'm not fully convinced, and figured it might warrant a reply here instead of its own thread. OP said they had it a long time and can't remember where they found it... not the most convincing story. The singer sounds passingly like Billie, but I think the quality is intentionally low to mask any overt differences.1 point

The pay isn't great, but at least I can say I'm working with Green Day in some capacity.1 point

I love The Forgotten, love the piano and strings and Billie’s voice is beautiful.1 point

If you want to hear weird vocals on the trilogy, just listen to the vocal track of Oh Love for Billie grunting1 point

We really need to let go of old, unreleased songs. There is a reason they weren't released, or even properly recorded.1 point

Working in retail will make you hate any Christmas song of any genre. There are only so many times you can tolerate the same five songs on repeat while customers threaten to report you to the CEO because the last lemon cheesecake is damaged. I can't even listen to the original You Get What You Give anymore because of the Sainsbury's version (in case you want to suffer, this is what I'm on about). At least they've retired that so I'll (probably?) forget about it eventually... but there is no forgetting Wham. Or Slade. Or Mariah Carey. Then again, they're all bearable compared to that Sainsbury's cover and that's in my head now. HELP.1 point

It seems that the title of the album will not be 1972. This woman says she had "the coolest conversations" with Rob Cavallo and she talks about the album by writing #not1972 😱1 point

Re @Christian’s Inferno! comment about Graffitia sounding happy while having serious lyrics, Green Day are well known for that and recognise it themselves. I think Foam sounds like Green Day, their stamp is all over it. I find it funny that many people don’t seem to like Billie singing falsetto in Foam but seem ok with it for the Network!?1 point

Agreed. I always think, what if the only two GD albums a person heard were Dookie and Insomniac, and the next they heard was 21CB? They wouldn't believe it was the same band. GD is more diverse than a lot of non-fans give them credit for.1 point

The most disappointing thing about it to me wasn’t the music but the super short running time after a four year wait for a new album.1 point
