Metallica just announced a new album, a new tour and released the first single... Out of nowhere!!! The new tour will have two shows in each city, with two different sets every night... Imagine our beloved Green Day doing the same... And oldschool night and an America Idiot onwards night... I just love Metallica way of doing things

I feel the same. I understand why the term was used and there was no malicious intent but it makes me feel uncomfortable every time I hear it especially as a POC. I'd rather he not say it even though I understand the context.

We know they had it first but they’re gonna look really unoriginal by the time it comes out. The tour idea is also amazing. I would absolutely go to multiple nights if they promised different sets. Speaking of bands that do things better, Elvis Costello (who is also doing ten completely different setlists over ten nights in NYC) just surprise dropped a bonus album of the rehearsals for the new tour. It’s live in studio versions of songs from the new album plus a bunch of cool covers (Stones, Beatles) they do for fun while rehearsing. I would love it if Green Day would do that, just record the stuff they play when they rehearse.

Omg, I can’t believe Metallica’s new album name is going to be 72 seasons, what with the Black Crows and now this, I think GD have to change the name of theirs. I wonder if Metallica’s plans has made GD change theirs?

I'm really curious under which label the new album will be released. As @pacejunkie punk said, they released just three singles since FOAM, although they said since they're off their contract with Warner they want to release music more frequently. So I think many plans from that time were scrapped again. The Nimrod Special Edition gets released under Reprise again, but that can be because these songs "belong" to the main Nimrod album.

I don’t think those few throwaway singles will be any indication of what the next album will sound like. Remember when Back in the USA came out and we thought it was a hint of their next thing? Then we got FOAM

Had a dream that I was about to go to bed when I got a message from someone claiming to be Billie saying something about the GD Christmas ornaments I made. I wrote it off as a joke and went to bed. When I woke up (in the dream), I had a bunch of notifications and messages from multiple people about this. I noticed two of the ornaments I had sent were on my nightstand and covered in flour, so I couldn't see which ones they were. I didn't have time to figure any of this out because a cord in the wall started sparking so I had to deal with that first before everything caught on fire.

Working on narrowing down pics for next year's calendar, and this pic popped up just as Blood, Sex, and Booze came on. That's all.

I recently asked a black friend how they felt about white artists saying racist terms in songs that are meant to be anti-racist and she said, no. It should never be done, no matter the context. Now I wonder if this extends to film makers, novelists, etc. I know Stephen King always has a horribly racist monster in his stories and filmmakers do as well. Should they not have those things? Very interesting. Holiday and American Eulogy are two of the best songs ever, so it would be tough for me to let them go or alter them. If the songs in question were flippant, like say Bouncing off the Singular Wall, we'd be having a different situation.

I think the line "it's not a way that's meant for me" makes clear that the previous lines of the bridge are from the perspective of people who get criticized by the song. And I personally think that the first line of the bridge could be as problematic, especially in Europe, but since there is literally no backlash I think that also in this case it is clear that this is not the opinion of the band.

How has this thread been so quiet! Has nobody seen the new Oakland Coffee posts or am I the only one who thinks Billie looks amazing!? I know we aren’t seeing a lot of his hair but blimey he looks good!
