Everytime you say "pretty sure" GD delays a month the release of the album.4 points

Nah, they’re going to tour next summer so the album should come out before then. September would be almost two years after they began recording it and dropping hints. I think a Spring release is more likely with not a huge gap between single and album.4 points
-
Considering the Nimrod reissue release date is January, I think its realistic to expect the single in May and new album in September. I'm also expecting a film documenting the band's history and accompanying the album (similar to Oasis - Supersonic movie) - of course I don't know anything about all these, just expectations...4 points

If we stick with the theory that the album will be out around May 2023, it could be realistic that they play the Hella Mega setlist at Innings Festival but maybe play the first single of the album there too3 points

GD have a really annoying habit of releasing new albums when I am away on holiday. I was abroad for Foam and Revrad and it’s really a pain trying to listen properly and keep up with all the chat here when you are meant to be enjoying yourself😂😂. Will be away in February, March and May so far next year. Just saying. 😉3 points

I think your window seems pretty realistic and very close to what I've been speculating... although my gut tells me it's going to be before September. Maybe July or August? Assuming the announcement and first single is in May, that would give them a good two months worth of official marketing campaign and time for 1 or 2 singles before the album drops. The production was quite decent, but it also felt super gimmicky. When I think of FOAM, the this is the first thing that comes to mind...3 points

How do we feel about politics in lyrics or in themes for the album? I wouldn't mind touches of social commentary but I think politics is a scary place for them to go down right now. While AI really got deep into real things going on (and somehow still going on today), I feel like Billie hardly scratches the surface anymore in this area.2 points

Not to spoil the ending but I liked this part: “If Green Day occupies a commercial gray area nowadays, they also proved at this show that they're still the stadium-rock band to beat in 2022. They're one of the few rock acts — along with fellow '90s alt-rock heroes Foo Fighters — with a big enough treasure chest of hits to pack such massive venues and still limber enough to evoke their hit-making glory days without being graded on the AARP-discount curve. The Hot Topic brigade may balk, but 30 years into their career, Green Day fits all the criteria for a classic rock band — and they might just be the very best of the bunch.”2 points

I attended the first night show it was my first Green Day show and really my first concert experience. I wish they would make a return to The Garden. They always play at the Barclays Center whenever they’re in town for arena shows now. I have a feeling that when/ if they have their next arena tour they’ll probably be playing at the new UBS Arena in Queens.2 points

So it was done in the spirit of the album? I sneezed myself today to see if I still feel1 point
-
Agreed. I'm all for it, if that's what's in his heart. There's a glaring lack of substance in his recent lyrics.1 point

I’m happy with social commentary, and a leaning towards politics. I think Billie Joe’s writing is at it’s best when something is burning within him, whether that’s love for Adie, hatred for Tim Yohannon and George Bush or whatever. He needs something to focus on and it feels like there could be plenty of material currently for him to work with.1 point

Well. I got talked into going to this show! I'm going with friends. Anyone ever been to a Coverups show before? Idk why I'm a little anxious not knowing what to expect haha.1 point

And I'm pretty sure there would be secret shows around that time as well where they play the album in its entirety1 point

They just announced they're playing the Innings Festival again this February. So surely, a new single should be out by then, right?1 point

1 album. 9 Songs. 72 minutes. I speculate the songs will be called: Ruse of the Rubes. Coffee On A Dress. Ocean of Hurt Mistakes (Jesus of Suburbia) (extremely long) Faced With The World Weekend Boss Whereever the Night (extremely long) Different Strokes Gather the Heard1 point

So sorry to hear you guys have been through cancer and other medical issues, but so so happy you've got through it. Your feeling fine then bang your told you've got liver cancer. Thankfully the chemotherapy saved me, but my liver was dying. Thankfully to someone I'll never know I've got new liver. Still got many restrictions but I'm alive. When your texting to someone, it's another human being. Not knowing what's going on in their lives or what problems they are facing. life is precious and people matter just like you.1 point

I was diagnosed in 2014, and I remember feeling as if Brittany, Jason and I were going through it together. All three of us are in the clear in 2022 and what better way to celebrate than a big ole 1972 Trilogy. 😉 😉 😉1 point

FOAMF wasn't a troll album. That's just people coping about the fact that they don't like a Green Day album There isn't any source on wikipedia that says that the recording sessions started in 2014 so I'd take that with a grain of salt. Even if it is true, odds are that there was only 1 song that was partially recorded in 2014 and the actual album recording started much later. It says on the wikipedia page that work on the album began in 2014 but that doesn't necessarily mean recording started in 20141 point

Not a review exactly but my thoughts in the doobley-doo: TL:DR, Short set, but goddamn they know what they’re doing. Just go see them if you can, it’s great every time no matter what.1 point

Link here, but it's just a summary (you can use Google to translate the page to English). There's no link to the podcast. Hope someone can find it online: https://www.virginradio.it/news/rock-news/1285057/green-day-dalla-canzone-preferita-all-album-piu-frainteso-billie-joe-armstrong-racconta-i-momenti-migliori-della-band.html?fbclid=IwAR0mVsQDAP4tkJGP0ZZ36UDNDn-kWTq-rwcff5pm4KEedvt1woC3Pr2R9MM Sounds like it's news about the interview but the podcast itself isn't out yet. It's not Italian, Craig Jenkins is an American music journalist. I'm glad to see Billie doing more podcasts. I look forward to this, even though there are no major revelations in the article.1 point

I personally don't think 1972 is going to reach Green Day's golden age which was 1994-2009. But I'd be very happy to be proven wrong In terms of commercial success, I don't see them getting to 21CB success, never mind AI/Dookie. Obviously, it's a given that in terms of pure album sales none of their pre-2012 albums will be surpassed just because of how the market is currently for album sales. But this album would need to make a big impact in terms of streaming, they would need to have at least 1 single reach 100 million streams on spotify at least fairly quickly and the non-singles would probably reach at minimum 10+ million within that same time (for comparison, Still Breathing is currently on 92 million since its release and the non-singles range from 11-26 million). Ik they'd probably get a lot of shit for it calling them a sell out but I wouldn't mind them collaborating with a well known artist or band in order to get a successful single as long as the artist(s) they collab with works well in the song But commercial success doesn't really matter. As long as the album is good, that's the main thing. I just can't see them reaching the peaks of Dookie, American Idiot & 21st Century Breakdown again. But again, I'm happy if I get proven wrong. I do want them to do something different. FOAMF was somewhat different but for me, the quality just wasn't there on the different songs or even a lot of the more Green Day sounding tracks. People point to Sugar Youth being one of the best tracks but it's still just standard Green Day imo, nothing more. I'd be pretty happy with an album which meets the quality of RevRad. While it's still far from my favourite album, it is still solid throughout the entire album even if there are tracks I don't particularly care for or if the peaks of the album don't reach the peaks of other albums1 point

It was kinda weird to see Billie Joe back then. You knew something‘s wrong before he went to rehab. they cancelled a show in Italy in 2012 because he went to the hospital for one day. And in Mönchengladbach during one song (I think Letterbomb) he just lay down for 2 minutes and screamed in his mic like something hurts 😕1 point

I feel the same way! I fell in love with UNO instantly and it's still my favorite of the trilogy. I have such fond memories of this era because it's the first time I was active in the fan community. I joined Idiot Nation, I officially joined GDC around that time, bought tickets to my first Green Day concert, and started chatting with other fans. I was so happy. I still remember getting UNO at midnight because of my pre-order. I stayed up alllll night listening to it, trying to memorize every song. Of course, Billie's rehab stint brought the mood down. I was really sad and worried, but despite this this era of Green Day still has a lot of great memories for me. And it felt like such a redemptive moment when the 99 Revolutions toured opened up in my state and Billie was overcome with emotion because we waited for him and were just happy that he's back on stage where he belongs. Gah what a great time. I've been wanting to write about this for a while. Trying to get that in the works for a fun article.1 point
