So what if she is? That's getting more and more common nowadays because rent is skyrocketing and wages are stagnant. It's almost impossible to get by on your own anymore. Everyone is either forced to get a bunch of house/roommates or move back in with their parents just to survive. Don't make fun of that. I'm in the same boat and I know plenty of other people who are as well. Besides, you don't even know her living situation. Maybe she's visiting. Maybe mom's visiting her. Don't make assumptions either. Anyway I think my favorite moment from what I saw last night was when Tré ran down onto the stage to give Billie a big kiss on the cheek during JoS. That was so sweet!12 points

Really upset about Rudy's. The Oakland location was the last place I had dinner with my dad and we loved going to the Emeryville one, too. I had a split-second moment today when I thought to myself "He's going to be so bummed when I tell him" just like I did when the Oakland one closed. Thanks for the memories, Mike and company.5 points

Green Day’s Outside Lands set heard across S.F. Green Day once released a song called “Wow! That’s Loud,” and on the second day of this year’s Outside Lands festival many San Francisco residents vehemently agreed with that sentiment. As soon as the East Bay pop-punk band took to the Lands End stage to the strains of “American Idiot” at around 8:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 6, social media feeds lit up with people across the city noting how clearly they could hear every riff, cymbal crash and f-bomb the group cranked out from the end of the Polo Field in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. “Who needs Outside Lands tix when I can hear Green Day blasting all the way over to where I live as I nurse my baby to sleep,” Sarah Buhr Davis posted on Twitter. And the tweets kept coming as the band — singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bass player Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool — moved through its two-hour headlining set, highlighted by hits such as “Boulevard of Broken Dreams,” “Holiday” and “Longview” (see Green Day’s full Outside Lands setlist below). “From my house, I can distinctly hear Green Day playing ‘Welcome to Paradise’ in Golden Gate Park (about 2 miles away),” Sarah Mei tweeted. She added, “I was a 924 Gilman kid in college and back then I was ALL. IN.” Part of the problem may have been that the San Francisco weather was unusually calm, without the blanket of fog to dampen the noise, providing the perfect conditions for the music to carry. “So funny that I can hear Green Day playing from my house,” Shannon Wolfe tweeted. “The crowd noise is exuberant, you can feel the post-Covid air. Outside Lands is lit.” Even fans on the festival grounds noted how the volume seemed to increase once Green Day went on — and that was before the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame act unleashed a barrage of fireworks after its second-to-last song, the mini-suite “Jesus of Suburbia.” The band’s set, which also included a raucous cover of the Kiss classic “Rock and Roll All Nite,” cut it close to Golden Gate Park’s strict 10 p.m. curfew, ending at about 9:55 p.m. with Armstrong belting out a low-key solo version of “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).” Another Planet Entertainment, the promoters of the annual summer festival, have worked diligently to curb noise issues in recent years and even have a community hotline to respond to any complaints park neighbors may have during the three-day concert. They also have mobile sound monitoring equipment set up around the park that concert technicians can reference in order to adjust the volume as needed. The hotline number is 415-965-8001 and is available from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. during each festival day. But it’s unlikely many people used it during Green Day’s nostalgia-heavy set which was devoid of Armstrong’s usual politically-charged banter. “What’s better than listening to Green Day in your backyard? Answer: nothing. Nothing is better,” tweeted Mark Dietrich. City officials have previously stated that despite the persistent noise complaints about Outside Lands over the years, Another Planet has never violated any laws because there is no ordinance that applies to the festival site across the Polo Field, Hellman Hollow, Speedway Meadow and Marx Meadow. In 2019, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved a 10-year extension for Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park. The festival has contributed $31 million to the parks’ budget since it started, enabling the hire of a full-time gardener for the festival grounds and scholarships for its youth recreation programs, according to city records. The 14th annual festival is expected to draw 220,000 people during its three-day run at park through Sunday, Aug. 7, when it closes with a headlining set by rapper Post Malone.5 points

His hair is looking good right now. I was sad when he had it cut, but it's grown out enough now that it's nice. Still prefer floof of course, but this is very AI and I like that too.5 points

Unlike the Redditor, I think most of us are at varying levels of acceptance as @jengd suggests that arena and especially hometown arena shows are just going to be standard set lists. Yes, the silver lining is casuals go home happy. To @That Dude's question if they enjoy just playing the hits, I have to think so, especially when Billie says he so happy in mid-set. If Billie and Mike's facial expressions of joy aren't real, it's one hell of an impressive acting job. Some bands have said they have to switch it up just to keep things interesting, but apparently that doesn't apply to our trio. @pacejunkie punk brings up an interesting question of what hits can we hear again. This'll be different for everyone, but for me from last night's: Can hear again and again: WTP, St. Jimmy, Minority, Basket Case, WMUWSE, GR Could be relegated: AI, Holiday, KYE, BOBD, Longview, HAR, BS, WICA, 21 Guns, Knowledge, KFAD, JOS The livestream's audio and video is superior, but here's my one song video. Listen/watch only if you care to hear a slightly different mix, namely what you might hear from the audience:5 points

To me it’s just a sign that they’re starting to throw out teases beyond their social media circle of more serious fans to a wider audience. If that’s true I can’t imagine this album would still be six months away or more5 points

I think that they still play the greatest hits playlist is quite smart. That way they can now get attention of people who don‘t listen to Green Day or didn‘t listen to them for some time. And when they announce the new album, they can reach more people.4 points

My opinion. - I think 1972 will be released on or after Tre's birthday 9 Dec as he's the last one to reach 50 this year - all born in 19723 points

Those are obviously programmed drums, with little or no round robin. The person who did that should work more with MIDI velocities (especially on hihat) and overall choice of sound libraries if they want it to sound realistic. Nice try though.3 points

Great show as always, love the energy. Yeah same setlist when I saw them last year. Still glad I saw them again live. I had a great time watching some of the other bands playing at Outside Lands. Still hoping for a arena tour where we can get those fantastic setlists like we got in 2010. I am not a fan of these festival shows. They can't play the fan favorites because they are playing to a broader audience and some who have never seen them before. Oh well I enjoyed seeing them live. Now wait for the next show in the Bay Area.3 points

We've talked a lot about the band's 'by-the-numbers' set. But the real question is whether the band enjoys playing the same songs over and over again. I certainly hope they enjoy it, and aren't being pressure by record exec's or fan reaction to play what I call the "ONE - TWENTY ONE HITS" set list we keep getting every single night. I know there has to be at least SOME of that involved. But it's kind of sad that no matter how rich and famous you are, you're never really free to do whatever you want. I know that Green Day were to say, perform DOS in it's entirety everynight, followed by 10 Coldplay covers - the crowds would thin and their ability to tour would vanish. It just sucks. It sucks that a ragtag trio of punks with 60 Million or whatever in the bank can't play what the heck ever comes to mind. What's really concerning is that potentially the guys aren't happy at all. That they can't stop for whatever reason. The music industry won't let them. The fans, or their feelings of owing the fans...... I hope that Billie, Mike and Tre have cemented a better deal with their label, but these set lists...... It's just bad. Add Too Dumb to Die to ther permeanant setlist and I'll forget I ever thought about this. Thanks Billie2 points

Either way it's clear that they definitely think it will be. Which is exciting, because even a pretty good album like RevRad seemed to lack this amount of confidence2 points

Well, there weren't any surprises. My playlist on the run to the venue were my favorites from the Uno/Dos/Tre trilogy, as I was wishfully hoping for just one such selection. However, longtime local GD fans know they seem to inexplicably play it even safer during large hometown shows. There wasn't even a perfunctory, "What do you guys want to hear?" Still, I used to think any year I saw GD was a good year, and I think that's still true. Billie's voice is still incredible. Consider the following notes I took your annotated listening/watching guide for the archived livestream. There were a few lyric ad libs. 8:10pm Bohemian Rhapsody starts 8:19pm on stage 01. American Idiot: Billie comes out in a leather vest with "1972" on the back and a white flower pinned on his front right. 02. Holiday: "The representative of SCOTUS now has the floor!" 03. Know Your Enemy: with the usual audience member vocal near the end 04. Boulevard of Broken Dreams: After asking for everyone to turn on their phone flashlight, "It's about the only thing these phones are good for." 05. Longview: "My Tinder says to get a job." 😀 06. Welcome to Paradise 07. Hitchin' a Ride (preceded by Iron Man by Black Sabbath tease): After the usual dueling crowd cheer bit, "You're all a bunch of suckers, not the ones from Oakland." 08. Rock and Roll All Nite (KISS cover) 09. Brain Stew 10. St. Jimmy: BJA on vocal only, not on guitar, takes flower previously pinned on his vest and tosses it into the crowd. 11. When I Come Around: BJA shouting out surrounding areas at the end, "San Francisco... East Bay... Sacramento... ahhh, fucking, Santa Cruz, I guess, I don't know" 12. Waiting: I know it isn't numerically true, but it felt like the "rarest" song we got. 13. 21 Guns 14. Minority: Band introductions had some jokes for names like Ricky Schroder, Henry Winkler, and (for Mike Dirnt) David Duchovny. 15. Knowledge (Operation Ivy cover) (preceded by Tre drum solo): The "We" in "We get taught to decide" was a note BJA impressively held for 23 seconds. A 10-year-old kid named Montgomery did a great job on guest guitar. He was so short that BJA spent a bit of time trying to shorten the guitar strap for him. 16. Basket Case: This song had a fumbled start as BJA broke a string on his guitar after the first verse but played out the rest of the song. I wonder if the broken string led them to scratch "She". 17. King for a Day (preceded by "Lights" by Journey snippet, followed by a tease of "Careless Whisper" by George Michael): BJA briefly wears a plastic crown taken from the audience or planned as a stage prop. In the end, "Just wait 'til all them kids get a load of me". 18. Shout (The Isley Brothers cover) 19. Wake Me Up When September Ends 20. Jesus of Suburbia: In Part III: I Don't Care, the more recent "from Ukraine to the Middle East". I presume it was a joke, but Billie introduced "Tre Cool on the bass" leading into Part V: Tales of Another Broken Home. During the closing "I don't feel any shame" verse, Tre came up to give Billie a kiss. Billie then joked, "Tales from another broken... I thought that was my mother... " (in the same melody). 😂 21. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life): BJA began with a story of how in 1991 they tried to play in Dolores Park (across town in SF) on a day with a bunch of punk bands, but the cops shut it down before they played last. "They didn't shut this one down though," he smirks as he starts GR. The final "I hope you had the time of your life" ends in a low growl I haven't heard BJA do before. 9:57pm off stage Thanks for reading, Frank2 points
