One of my favorite songs of all time. So happy they played it. It was a great show. Wish I could have seen several shows on this tour.3 points

I'd say they're playing the Dookie version. I hadn't even thought about considering it a Kerplunk song to be honest! I suppose it is essentially the same song though so any finicky Setlist.fm editors are going to insist on listing it as a Kerplunk song.3 points

I think it's more marketed towards fans of Green Day, Fall Out Boy and/or Weezer. If you're a fan of Fall Out Boy or Weezer and see that they're doing greatest hits, odds are you'll assume that GD are also doing greatest hits. I think the intention is if someone goes to the tour who's only really a fan of 1 or 2 of the bands, they'll see the hits of the other bands they're not familiar with and maybe want to hear more from them3 points

I honestly don't think it's a pipe dream. It seemed from the start that the intent of Hella Mega was to be a 1990s and mid-2000s nostalgia trip for 30-50 year olds now with disposable income to come out and enjoy the greatest hits from the pop rock bands they listened to in middle school, high school, and college. There was absolutely zero chance Green Day would come out and play deep cuts and songs from their latest album that A) Likely no one in the audience purchased/listened to and B) Was heavily insinuated by the band to be a throwaway album. Whenever <insert next album name> releases and the band has their own tour(s) in support of it, I would be shocked if we didn't return to the more dynamic setlists and ones that don't overtly pander to the "Oh, Green Day, I like their 'I Walk Alone' song from high school dances" crowds. Will they still play the hits? Of course; there will never be a tour show where the band doesn't play "Basket Case", "Good Riddance", etc. As much as they like their music, I'd have to imagine they're more than ready to switch things up. Unless more dates get announced, there's hopefully about one month left of this (god forbid it extends into this fall's lineup of festivals). --- I probably come across as overly dramatic and ungrateful, which is not what I am. If I could, would I go to every one of these shows and listen to the same setlist at each stop? Heck yes; I love this band and their music and could never get sick of it. I think I'm just more ready for something meaningful again from them.3 points

From Kerrang: https://www.kerrang.com/green-day-announced-as-winners-of-the-kerrang-icon-award Punk rock legends Green Day will receive the prestigious Kerrang! Icon award, presented by Marshall, at this yearâs Kerrang! Awards. Previous Icon winners include punk heroes the Ramones and MC5, and on June 23 we will celebrate the epic career of a band who have inspired countless artists over the years â from Fall Out Boy to Billie Eilish. Speaking about presenting the East Bay punks with the Kerrang! Awardsâ top accolade, K! Editor Luke Morton said: âFew bands have done more to change the fabric of rock music than Green Day. From the seminal and essential explosion of Dookie to the visionary American Idiot and beyond, they have been a gateway band for generations of fans looking for something raw, something exhilarating and something life-affirming. The Kerrang! Icon award is presented in recognition of the bandâs longevity and legacy as one of the greatest and most important acts in the history of rock and alternative music, who still captivate and electrify millions of fans all over the world with the power of punk rock.â Since their rough-and-ready debut 39/Smooth back in 1990, Green Day have got on to sell over 70 million records across the world, including over 10 million for the era-defining Dookie. On top of appearing at the K! Awards, theyâll be levelling stadiums across the UK from June 24 with Fall Out Boy, Weezer and Amyl And The Sniffers for the long-awaited Hella Mega Tour. The Kerrang! Awards take place on June 23 and voting is open now for categories including Best British Act, Best Live Act and Best Album. Stay tuned to Kerrang! for more info on the Awards and how you can follow whatâs happening on the night. Congrats boys!2 points

I still think Green Day are at a place in their career where they don't have to reserve deep cuts or rarities for theater shows. For Hella Mega, the same setlist makes sense, but for their regular tours? They can definitely change it up. There are bands who have been going longer than them and who sell out stadiums that change it up every night. Green Day can do the same. They just have to say fuck it and do it.2 points

Iâd hardly call it an era lol they played Father of All and Oh Yeah like a handful of times and Fire Ready Aim once or twice and Billie did the acoustic performance of Graffitia and then the album never existed again. Hella Mega is a greatest hits tour for them and FOAM never really got a tour. Personally Iâm sick of hearing the same songs every time I see them and Iâm really hoping we can go to the 21CB era style where there was a different set each night. But itâs a pipe dream and even though I love them I really donât think they know what theyâre doing anymore.2 points

Theyâre not calling it a biggest hits tour because they still have a modicum of dignity - thatâs why they came up with hella mega1 point

We know they often share buses, but guess they donât often sleep on then anymore. I think they would get their own rooms.1 point

Setlist.fm does something that really bugs me when it comes to Green Day. They list "Welcome To Paradise" as a Kerplunk song and not a Dookie song. I know it's on both, but come on. Everytime I look at the stats, I'm like "huh, only 3 Dookie....wait a minute!" What do you guys think? Does it count as representing both albums, or are they playing a version that represents only one or the other? I personally think they are playing the Dookie version, but whatever helps them sleep at night, I guess. Also, I hope they keep rotating out NImrod tracks. Scattered is the best song they've played in a LONG time. Oh, and Longview will hit 1000 performances with just 39 more shows.1 point

So most people I know who were big Green Day fans growing up (they are now between the ages of 30-40) lost interest in Green Day around the time of, and after, American Idiot. So if this tour is being marketed towards the fans who are 30-50 years old and who would have been into Green Day maybe 20 or so years ago, the fact that there isn't a huge emphasis on it being a 'greatest hits' tour from a promotional view is just odd to me. Because otherwise you're going to assume that they'll be playing newer stuff that you don't know. Whereas if they focused more on the nostalgia element, maybe more people would be like "Fuck yeah, remember Green Day!? Have to go to this show!"1 point

Well this is just not true. I mean, it depends what you mean by post-AI material, but assuming you mean the stuff they released after the American Idiot album, so 21st CB, the trilogy etc., then I have to ask "What?" I mean 15 years ago, AI was their most recent album, and 20 years ago AI didn't even exist I don't think anyone's making the argument that GD in 2022 is huge. But their discography is huge, they have a huge amount of hit singles and when normal people who aren't mega fans like us attend a show, they expect to hear these singles1 point

If he gets himself the rona before my show next week, Iâm going to be so mad at him1 point

I certainly hope they do, but I doubt it. Most big rock artists reach the point in their careers where itâs about preserving legacy, and the setlists reflect that. These shows just arenât for us, theyâre for the regular people who like the band from the radio hits. Which is okay for large venues but I do wish theyâd do a small theater tour for us where they could really play whatever they wanted. But maybe theyâre too big for that now, I dunno.1 point

It would be, but it would also inhibit his ability to move around the stage a bit, and he would need a pretty big scrolling font to see without his glasses. It would be an adjustment for sure. Heâs already been using one for the KISS cover.1 point

I don't know If makes sense, but I think this Greatest Hits tour/Hella Mega can be the way they found to reach more people and grab more fans for shows in the future If I remember well, they was struggling to sell tickets in big venues in the recent past.1 point
