  1. Gimme gimme those heavily layered guitars, punchy bass, rich drums, Rob Cavallo decision making, and CLA mixing 😍

  3. I think people should calm down with the whole "This is gonna sound like Dookie/American Idiot/Nimrod/Insomniac" etc. Every time a new single comes along, there are always people saying "This sounds like 90's Green Day" and then the rest of the album comes out and everyone's like "We couldn't have been more wrong". We've literally only heard seconds of the new album and we've not even heard any vocals yet. Yes I know. It looks like Cavallo is back producing. That doesn't mean it's gonna be an Idiotesque album.

  4. Of course not, but Cavallo combined with Blue in the studio, it’s hard to not get excited!

  7. As the humanitarian crisis caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine continues to grow in urgency, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced on Saturday the “Stand Up for Ukraine” pledging summit, taking place on Saturday, April 9. The event aims to mobilize significant funding to help vulnerable civilians impacted by the conflict and to support refugees everywhere. Ahead of the summit, a global social media rally supported by Global Citizen will take place on Friday, April 8, in response to a new video from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in which he called on the international community to help people affected by the invasion. The rally will encourage citizens to call on governments, institutions, corporations, and individuals to donate to humanitarian efforts for Ukraine and refugees from conflicts worldwide, such as Yemen, South Sudan, and Afghanistan. Dozens of artists, entertainers, athletes, and advocates will join the rally, including Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Adam Durica, Aitana, Alanis Morissette, Alejandro Sanz, Alexandra Stan, Angélique Kidjo, Annie Lennox, Billie Eilish, Billy Joel, Celine Dion, Chris Isaak, Chris Rock, Demi Lovato, Elton John and David Furnish, FINNEAS, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood, Gloria Steinem, Green Day, Herbert Grönemeyer, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-lee Furness, Igo, Jon Batiste, Jonas Brothers, Juanes, Kacey Musgraves, Katy Perry, Leon Bridges, Luke Combs, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, Mirai, Ozzy Osbourne, Pearl Jam, Pharrell Williams, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ryan Tedder, Sarsa, Shaquille O’Neal, Stevie Nicks, Stevie Wonder, Tame Impala, U2, Usher, Vito Bambino, and Young Leosia. 8. I think it's so easy to get hyped up about this one because it's the first time since RevRad that we're hearing some actual meaty double tracked guitars, big drums, classic dirnt bass riffs etc. -- this sounds quintessentially Green Day where FOAMF and The Network (obviously) didn't, so in a sense to me this feels like the first proper release from them in 6 years. And the fact that I can say all of that from minutes of teasers can only be a good thing As I've said though I'd still err on the side of caution here and don't think anybody should be expecting an 18 track rock opera backed by a full orchestra. But I do think the Green Day we know and love are coming back (and that's from a FOAMF enjoyer)

  9. When was the last time they actually used Blue in the studio? The production is shaping up to be a Green Day fan’s wet dream
    8 points
  10. They sure are hyping it like it is. A lot of that is out of their control but it tells you how good they feel about what they're doing right now

  11. Backstreet Boys collab confirmed 😇

  12. Well, there you have it. Is probably their most 90's effort. It sounds like Longshot with Nimrod production. In itself is not a bad thing. I hope lyrics are just as good as the music.
    8 points
  13. I mean recording the album onto tape might make sense considering the album’s called ‘1972’ - they could be really going for an analog, 1970s sounding record
    7 points
  14. I wonder if they're responding to the 90's nostalgia and pop punk resurgence right now. It's only right that they should remind people that they're still the kings of pop punk. No one does it better than them.

  15. To me the Cavallo era is synonymous with 90's Green Day and if you include American Idiot, Green Day at their best. Doesn't mean shit can't happen but it seems like their intentions here are pretty pure and just based on the amount of teases we've had now they're obviously very excited about what they're doing

  16. Don't do this to me guys... I don't want to get hyped up for some incredible groundbreaking masterpiece of an album that I know the guys are absolutely still capable of and is very likely with the involvement of Rob Cavallo. It's just a quick 6 track punk EP with some tight as fuck production and a bit of Yorkshire Tea mixed in for that English taste and that's all I need

  19. I think everything is happening this year. Single release before the tour, album in oct/Nov since more likely. But who knows at this point 🤪

  20. Agreed! The video also seems like they are listening to a mix, so it could be all recorded and in the mixing stage, or at least some songs are
    5 points
  21. Yep. Definitely no reason they couldn't finish tracking and have the album mixed, mastered etc in a few months. Having said that I fully expect Crush to do something weird again and we'll get a single in a few weeks followed by the full album the same date next year

  22. By the time they came back from their first London trip, Billie told a fan they recorded 6 songs, which is where our EP speculation took off. But now they’re back in the London studio. There’s no way they went all the way back to London just to put finishing touches on a small EP. If they were doing that, they could’ve just gone to OTIS. This album is gonna be huge guys!!!!

  23. The Trilogy was great, just criminally underrated especially since Billie associated it with bad times, i.e, the iHeart incident and rehab
    4 points
  24. If Quatro is to be taken as representative of what their creative process was like for the trilogy, they haven't tried anything else other than patting each other on the back... that doesn't tend to be the way ideas get improved. It could be that they've reflected on it (and it could be that they didn't).

  25. A surprise show in London would be pretty awesome while they’re there

  26. Nobody should be hyping it up like this. I’m expecting a return to form after the FOAM experiment but nothing groundbreaking. Anything better than “good” at this point is gravy.

  28. I wonder if they're doing main L&R guitar tracks with Blue going into Rob Cavallo's Marshall.. (the Dookie amp). Nothing beats that sound

  34. like many of you I’m having such a great feeling about 1972. Not sure why…the teasers, Rob, everything. Hoping it will be a full album and not an EP. But dont wanna get my hopes up yet!

  35. The Head Such a great moment. 😂 1972 as a full fledged era has been awesome so far.

  36. The Trilogy was the most exciting process creatively for the band and from a fan perspective imo. It felt like it had all the right elements (unfortunately something somewhere went wrong but that’s a whole other story). This is starting to really feel like that. The great parts of the Trilogy and the creative process and teases. Love the sound clips and video and trolling and the BTS deleted posts and reposts etc. and the music sounding amazing! Can’t wait for some vocals and lyrics. I am very optimistic and excited right now.

  37. I miss the pyro effect during "bang bang goes the broken glass" in Holiday. It scaried the shit of the unknowing and it was so funny! Also, great effect for that line

  38. Also agree that I've always interpreted it as a song about being there for someone out of friendship and love. A reminder that through the dark times he's gonna be there.
    4 points
  39. Amen to this. I think the last teaser we heard is a strong indication that at least one song or more will probably be reminiscent of 90s Green Day. That said, the vocals will almost certainly be different and the other teasers we've had up until this point also paint a slightly different picture than the most recent one. I think the safest prediction we can make at this point is that the project/record will sound more like "classic Green Day" or from the "Cavallo era", both of which of course are very broad terms. That's enough to get me excited though.

  42. Could it be they're finally doing that thing they said they'd never do and are giving the fans what they want? 😀 I also thought Blue was only used for performances these days and had been retired from the studio long ago.

  46. I believe that Green Day are really focusing on pleasing the majority of fans, like they are doing with their "Biggest Hits" concerts, and that they are carrying that idea over to 1972. So based on how we've spent out money and time, 1972 is going to sound like Dookie with some American Idiot-esue flare to it. Maybe a drop or two of modern pop music to perhaps get the attention of younger fans.
    3 points
  47. Are you sure 1972 is an album??? I am still waiting for musical spoilers.... What if 1972 is a book? 1972 - Audiobook, by Morgan Llywelyn | Chirp (chirpbooks.com) just saying..,

  48. Just trying not to get my hopes up, that's all 😄 I do think it'll be this year but we'll see what happens To me it seems like they're listening to the rough desk mix of what they've tracked, but it's unusual for bands to have the mix engineer work in the same studio they recorded it in so I doubt they're in the actual mixing stage right now. Unless they've decided to pull a Foo Fighters (😔) and they're tracking the whole thing through that Neve console onto tape
    3 points
  49. Another thing is SIX of the songs were recorded months and months ago, soooo theoretically those could be ready to go at any point, although no one should take that and run with it but if they’re releasing a few singles before then those will probably be spread out a bit
