I think there's a lot of confusion between production and mixing + mastering around here. Production decisions, imo, let FOAM down - whether that was Butch Walker's doing or Green Day's (or as all evidence seems to point, both). When I say that I mean the creative decisions made in the recording process to realise the songs written, i.e very different sounding guitar tones from previous albums, hand claps, synth sounds etc. This is where I think Revolution Radio is miles ahead of FOAM, with the band producing themselves and choosing to go in a more 'Green Day' direction with a lot of Who influences and massive sounding guitars. From a mixing (+mastering) point of view FOAM sounds great -- much less smashed by limiters during mastering, and things like vocals generally sound more well recorded and have fewer glaring issues with balance and certain harsh frequencies which RevRad suffers from. Personally I have no reason to believe that Butch Walker couldn't produce a more 'Green Day' sounding record if that's what the band wants, although I must admit I'm not super familiar with any of his work outside of FOAM so obviously not a great start. Mainly just hope they go back to a more organic sound, with less compressed drums and bigger guitars.6 points

He told me to fuck off before FOAM when I made a comment about what I hoped the record would be (to be fair - prob not my place to say that to him, but it was pretty direct 😂)5 points

I would definitely put Nimrod as Billie's best pre-AI era. Also, anytime I see any of those duct taped pics, I picture the conversation of, "So what did you do at work today?" "Oh, I duct taped Green Day together. How about you?"5 points

This is a really interesting picture of Billie. I love the double earrings! He's pretty in a different way than he became during AI onward.5 points

He’s making a good choice imo… he doesn’t need to deal with people telling them they didn’t like whatever he just released3 points

Every time someone says that, I think "well that's just a stupid thing to do". It makes them look bad and is kind of a fuck you to the fans. Which is why I don't think that's what they did. I think they liked what they were making at the time and had a lot of fun creating and recording the songs together and that's why they made it3 points

I’m hitting the optimistic point of the Butch walker news… the clips we’ve heard have been short but sound nothing like FOAM. Maybe everyone learned a lesson, and if Butch can just effectively capture new Green Day ideas maybe it will still be a great return to form3 points

I think Billie hires him as someone who is even worse at dealing with the public opinion/clap screapegoat3 points

I really cannot get these quality critiques on FOAM’s mixing. I do get that the approach is quite different from anything they’ve done before, probably especially when it comes to drums, and with that comes the fact that fans can dislike it (totally fair and to be expected). But if we talk about mixing quality I still think those songs sound way better than anything they’ve published since 21CB. Especially when compared to RevRad. If they have to change direction again with the next record, I surely hope they will not go back to that. IMHO having fresh external inputs in the production and mixing side of things did good to this band, I hope to see that in the future rather then another 10 years of self produced records. Then, do I want the same creative direction they took with FOAM for the next record(s)? Probably not, but that’s all up to the band.3 points

I think Tre spotted her first, he’s shared her posts twice now I think. Don’t see it being an album cover but who knows, guess they could approach her.3 points

If you think they made the record sound like shit on purpose, not enough 🙃2 points

Here’s what I think. Knowing FOAM was their last album with Warner, they made it sound as shitty as possible (by their standards anyway, as it’s still a pretty good album, just not maximum Green Day). Then in an interview, Billie said, “Maybe we’ll put out another album next year before the tour.” Then of course the pandemic delayed everything. I’m thinking he had all the 1972 songs written and ready to record, but decided to record the 3 singles first (HCTS, Pollyanna, and Holy Toledo) and decided to line this new record up with their 50th birthdays this year!!!2 points

The amount of delusion and disappointment here mixed together is hilarious  . If I'm gonna pinpoint problems in the production of FOAM, I'd throw my darts to the mastering engineer. He went crazy with the color and compression on the CD master. Hell, listening in vynil is like listening another different record. Butch did a great job as producer. If he didn't, the band wouldn't be working with him again.1 point

I'm not a big fan of the anime style either, but I love her art and think it has a special appeal. I agree!! I'm always impressed by her attention to detail and her powers of observation.1 point

I've never been the biggest FOAM fan, but it grew on me more and Graffitia has even become one of my all time favorites. I love the production of that song, especially when you listen with headphones. In my dreams, that's the direction they're heading with their new record. So if Butch producing the new album means we'll get more Graffitia-styled songs, then I'm all in.1 point

I don't think anyone should blame the producer for foam being a shit album. The guys didn't really care about it and it was painfully obvious.1 point

I am so excited for this new album I don’t care I am ready let’s go! Also I love how Tré follows and shares the small independent artist Comeasur731 and then Billie shared Tré’s post and then zoomed in like the pic on his original post the art is based on that was really funny! I hope y’all are following the artist now. They are awesome and it would be great to see the account grow and get more of their great art out there and shared. There really needs to be more of that. Green Day and the fandom can be very powerful. I think Comeasur731 deserves support and love! Their work has a special vibe and is super cute. God bless Tré Cool once again for sharing and then Billie Joe too ❤️ This has been a really great day for posts and reposts ❤️ I AM SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS NEW RECORD!1 point

This one’s my personal favorite from the Trilogy (minus the scruff). I don’t know, I’ve just always thought black jackets like these looked kick ass, slick, and rebellious.1 point

This is around Billie's birthday - I wonder if any 1972 stuff will have made an appearance by then. A high profile show is a good time to make an announcement.1 point

That's the show that makes me constantly fear for Billie's pants falling off. Every time I yell at the screen "Billie! Pull your fucking pants up!" I have no idea how they stayed up. What's the point of even wearing the belt if you're going to let your pants be so low that just the weight of the belt leads it to do the exact opposite of its job?1 point

That's what he said isn't it? Is that the last time they played Glasgow back in 2010? I'm thinking it must have been Fox Theatre 20091 point

Here's a couple more I found from the same show and on this one just how does Billie get those pants to stay up1 point

Pros to the ad: young girl fan playing. Broken Guitars cameo Cons: no Billie except for a live clip. It would have been cool if he’d played the sales clerk giving the dude the guitar in the shop.1 point
