I think they are really excellent at throwing us by announcing stuff nobody ever expects and I don’t see why album releases should be any different with these three creative loons. Who predicted anything right in the last 30 years?

If you’re implying they’re currently on tour for their previous album, they’re clearly not. The last album never got a tour and never will. This is a legacy tour and the rules don’t apply. Without Warner to answer to, they don’t have to follow an album/tour cycle anymore or any other traditional format.

Jaded is freaking amazing! Haha woah walking contradiction is finally captured the way it is meant to sound! The Extra guitar riff in the intro is lethal! Nice guys finish last sounds like it’s a welcome addition to kerplunk Sessions! Love for prosthetic head, church on Sunday, and redundant! Is this version of castaway superior? Holy smokes!!! Who played the horns in minority and the like? Why doesn’t freese rock this hard? Still waiting on my vinyl, mind you!

A lot going on recently in the world of Green Day! Billie returns to Instagram, and a Reddit post claims they recorded 6 new songs in the UK. Let’s continue our discussion here!!!

Okay just finished listening and I’m sorry if this is going to be a long post but I have to get this out so here goes: I know these songs were selected for different reasons and over the course of many years so before any of you @ me, I’m aware this is just serendipity but hearing these songs this way and in this order tells such a perfect story arc of his life during those years (as the albums do of course so no coincidence but removing the nonconforming songs this is compressed with just the best songs chosen somehow to tell this story) that I was overcome emotionally listening to this. I can’t believe it worked out this way. These tracks are in order and here is what I heard: (Pre-fame writings, or the kind of stuff a kid would write in his bedroom about girls, growing up and anxiety, but pure and untouched by fame)— She WICA Basket Case 2000LYA (Post Fame)… (Drugs/Despair)— Geek Stink Breath Brain Stew/Jaded (Doubt)— Walking Contradiction Stuck With Me (Alcohol)— HAR (Doubt)— Nice Guys Finish Last Prosthetic Head (Rebirth)— Castaway (Repair)— Church on Sunday (Acceptance)— Minority (Hope/Redemption)— Waiting And of course what is that thing that comes next for him, that big moment to come that he’s destined for? He didn’t know it yet but it turns out to be American Idiot of course. What a story arc this is. Seriously I know this wasn’t planned but that’s hard to believe when you hear it. It’s the story of his life during those years. Incredible. To me this was more than just a rerelease of old songs and I wasn’t expecting that. Sonically I agree with Billie the Warning tracks in particular come alive here and are my favorite but all of this has so much energy. No one sounds like them. Greatest band in the world 💚

21CB kind of was about midlife crisis... It's far from unheard of for that to happen, though. A person throws their heart into a project and it becomes a huge hit, so they throw every fiber of their being into the next one and it doesn't reach the same heights. Not every followup project can be The Godfather: Part II. The criticism I remember hearing back then is that it tried to do everything AI did, but on a bigger scale. Instead of channeling the Clash, the Beatles and the earlier Who vibe, they went for the massive sound of '70s Who, Queen, KISS, and the other huge arena bands, and it didn't quite work out. For every A Night at the Opera, there's A Day at the Races. For every Alive, there's Alive II (although Alive III and IV were the real crimes against nature). The negative opinions towards 21CB were influenced by AI, as they really should have been. The album was being compared to the album before it, the one it was trying to improve upon by being bigger, louder and more complicated, and while those of us who were at the 21CB shows, especially the stadium tour, would probably tell you that they were some of the most wonderful, amazing, over the top displays of music ever seen, the album wasn't as well received. The songs on 21CB translated to the live setting much better than they did to an album. Awesome as Fuck really shows that well. Yes, I know I just replied something totally different in your status update. I reserve the right to change my mind 100% of the time. The Trilogy was a flop for the band in every way. Aside from occasionally showing up in BJA's solo shows, I would be surprised if songs from it ever turned up again. Although I admit, I'd crap myself with glee if, at a future Green Day show, I heard Stay the Night. FOAM was a middle finger directed squarely at their old label, not an effort to reclaim their former glory or drop another #1 platinum record. The band's stopped just short of saying as much.

I love hearing that sound from when they were first locked in to the sound that would define them. When Tre joined, everything kicked into high gear and this is the first time you hear that. There will always be something genuinely exciting about Kerplunk to me for that reason. Tre is so damn good, they sound tight and energized like they know they’re on to something. And Billie’s songwriting has also kicked itself up a notch to match. It’s the real start of everything that is to come and is chefs kiss.

i listened to these songs probably a zillion times, not to mention all the different live footages etc ... but i simply cant get enough of GD, i really hope they stay with us for a looong time and share their music with us

This type of thread is GDC at its absolute finest. Fingers crossed we actually get something soon out of this! Another Shenanigans style compilation of B-Sides and standalone singles would be really nice too.

Todd apparently has a few unreleased songs gagged by green day so maybe there's a hint there, BJ didn't say it was a studio album, could be a great-sounding collection of unreleased very early songs. just a thought

I can't see them doing a new album this soon (plus I doubt they'd do anything on next year's HM tour other than continue with greatest hits), but I'd love an unreleased album. Give me Dreamcatcher, Oh Girl, Olivia, and Minnesota Girl finally!
