  2. The reasoning as to why BJ writes depressing songs even when intending to make a "party record" is because... he doesn't wanna freak you out, but he cannot li-i-i-ie

  5. Listened to American idiot yesterday and I can say that it’s the best album that ever existed. Foam is also great. I’m in love with it. Guys never disappoint me. Glad they are experimenting and that they never stick to one thing. The goat

  7. The cover is pretty good trolling, but it makes it look like they're not taking it seriously which is a shame considering the album is great. However, it's "we won't play the new songs" that pisses me off.

  8. I'm so glad to see someone else is as deeply in love with Graffitia as I am! I've been keeping the song on repeat in the past week so much that I woke up with it stuck in my head this morning. 😁 Absolutely agree with you on the lyrics too! Your opinions match mine pretty closely. I looooove how dark Junkies is.

  10. I kinda did the same thing, when Billie mentioned motown and soul music i started to listen some of that from the 60'. Honestly i didn't find that many similarities but i discover some amazing songs. I'm stunned by Aretha Franklin singing. I'm out of breath just thinking singing like her.

  11. Good point - I'd say it boils down to the length of the album. The reused melodies make up more of the runtime because it's shorter. But either way, there quite a few of them. On the other hand, I just can't help it, the album is fun as hell.

  12. Just Billie. And he's always running into himself as he makes music with Tre and Mike from different time periods. We also learn that the Network are actually from the past but use Billies powers to go the future and live for a long time before travelling BACK to 2003. They were trying to be normal but were in the wrong decade than they thought. Oh, and they are related to Green Day.

  13. In preparation for writing a story based on Father of All, I've just discovered what could possibly be a big part of the story arc. The album is about Billie Joe traveling through time. That's why the songs sound like they are from different time periods - THEY ARE. Billie travels to these time periods, records these songs with whatever band he can get together (Mike and Tre help him in the times they exist in. In 1959 and 1960 he enlisted some mystery musicians of the famous ilk....) Billie travels first to the 70s, then returns home. He then goes to the year 3000, all the way back to 1959, takes a detour through 2002., back to the 60s, then to 2004, 2015 and finally 2009, where we leave our time-weary traveler.

  17. In Take the Money and Crawl, it sounds like the verse starts with "illegal tinder" and ends with "I don't want to fuck it".

  20. So, after one week of listening, I can say this album grew on me a lot and I'm happy that it's so much better than expected after we got the first two singles. FRA is still a weak song for me, but I like it more now. FOAM is the only song on the album I still absolutely don't like, sorry. We won't be friends in this lifetimešŸ˜‚ I love Graffitia, Junkies on a High, Meet Me on the Roof, Sugar Youth, Take the Money and Crawl and Oh Yeah. I can't get so much into Stab You in the Heart because it sounds like an exact copy of Hippy Hippy Shake for me. I like Teenage Teenager, but it's too long in my opinion - I don't see the point of this being the longest song on the album with 3:45, they are repeating one verse and a repetetive chorus over and over. It could have been shorter and Graffitia could have used some extra time. It has that epic, Who-esque, anthem-like feel and could totally be the Forever Now of this record with one or two extra minutes. Have I already mentioned how much I love Graffitia? So overall, I think it's a really good record with songs I like a lot. And now that I got over the shock of how dark, depressing and even suicidal some of the lyrics are, I can even dance to the songs (after the first few listens, I felt more like crying to be honest because some lyrics are truly shocking).

  21. If I was to say something negative about this album (that I thoroughly enjoy), it would be that it's derivative and there are reused melodies. That said, Billie has been doing this for years and in a way, the way he keeps working with some of these ideas is pretty cool. He's like a frantic artist painting the same thing over and over trying to get it right and at times, I'd say he accomplished. Sugar Youth is easily the best She's A Rebel he's written Yes, we only need a way to make them see it!

  23. They covered People with Fidlar recently I guess, that song is really great but didn't listen to their cover yet. IWATT really could be a SWMRS song and which is cool imo

  25. After multiple listen, I only dislike the fade out ending of Meet Me On The Roof and Graffitia. BTW, I'm the only one who didn't heard "pictures" at the start of the 2nd verse of Stab You In The Heart?

  29. And people would most probably do the same for GD. If you check the FB comments to the Kerrang article everyone is extremely happy about it... It’s not easy to be a hardcore fan šŸ˜• Actually we would probably end up having nothing from 21CB onwards, and WMUWSE played 5 times in a row. Remember that people voted for Barabbas, I don’t trust people

  34. This album has me building a playlist of it's influences! While I have taken notes of musicians Billie has name dropped, I'm sure I've missed some - any you've heard?? I am not exactly how I am organizing it yet. One with only FOAM influence, or with other Billie favorites. Or a seperate list for that. In any case, this album had me super excited about the history of Rock N Roll!

  37. My CD got delivered one day early yesterday so I had some time to listen and digest. My feelings about it are mixed. For me it's not really a party record, it’s giving me very, very dark vibes (ā€žRock’n’roll tragedy, I think the next one could be meā€œ – holy shit, Billie😨). The record sounds as if the trilogy, a touch of the Foxboro Hottubs, The Beatles, Prince and Billy Idol were put in a blender. The strong trilogy vibe I already felt when they announced the album initensified, some songs (Sugar Youth, Take The Money And Crawl) sound like they could be straight off Dos, at least for my ears. The songs I like most - along with Oh Yeah - are Meet Me On The Roof, Junkies On A High and Graffitia. I don’t really understand the many reviews who say this doesn’t sound like Green Day. I think it sounds a lot like them. So right now I'm still in a state of suspense whether I like it or not, it's definitely not love at first sight like I had it with most other GD records, but I have a feeling that this one is a grower. And so far I can say that there are definitely moments I enjoy.
