I really should say something here but I'm having a hard time finding the words...luckily a picture is worth a thousand of them they say:5 points

The only thing I don't like about both of those is that he either dies or is dead. I was not expecting that with the Nurse Jackie scene and he did a damn good job because it felt real enough to scare the shit outta me! But yeah the scene from Haunted was also good! Wait, I'm looking at the years of all these things and I feel like instead of steadily improving he went the opposite direction until OW. Maybe his performance is just really dependent on the quality of the director? This is only based on what I've watched but this is how I see it... 2002 Haunted - Pretty Good 2012 Nurse Jackie - Pretty Good 2012 This is 40 - Not so good 2014 Like Sunday, Like Rain - Not so good (although this movie is great btw) 2016 Ordinary World - Pretty Good He drew the wrong symbol. Should've been an infinity sign.3 points

Oh I love his Nurse Jackie scene! The scene from Haunted is good too but you're right, he's gotten noticeably better with each role he takes which is why I so look forward to seeing him challenge himself more.3 points

Thanks to the video Billie made I'm now going through a phase of listening to Troubled Times a lot. I've always liked that song, but the last few days I've been listening to it 4/5 times on the trot on my iPod. In no particular order TT, Still Breathing, Bang Bang and Forever Now are my top 4 from Rev Rad.2 points

Can't find it now, but that pic of Mike "pissing" in Tre's mouth and Tre looking way too happy about it is pretty damn weird.2 points

Some more on the story of a very lucky 8 year old with lots of clips. The kid is in a band! http://www.wthr.com/article/8-year-old-guitarist-brings-house-down-at-green-day-concert2 points

Wow, six times? That's dedication! Yeah I don't think a teenager would really get anything out of this film haha. I'm not 40 but I've been out of my teens for awhile now and I tend to connect with movies that target older audiences, but this one not so much, haha. The pretentious former film student in me (sorry) couldn't get past parts of it. But at the end of the day I didn't hate it, I just desperately want to tweak it. And everyone gets different things out of movies so it's good that some people are connecting with this one in a positive way. Haha, that's a weird description for it. I agree that I got a kick out of that. Like I genuinely forgot it was him and that he's hugely successful. It felt so real! I actually liked that aspect of it though because it made him seem more human and "normal". Not that I don't love his wild side, but it's always fun to see the other side. I actually watched this before I saw his scenes in other movies, etc. so I didn't realize how much he improved as an actor until I went back. To me, this and the Nurse Jackie scenes are his strongest filmed performances.2 points

I kind of liked the movie because of Billie, but I agree that the plot is cringeworthy. Also, it's interesting to learn that you can overcome a midlife-crisis in only one day. Good to know.2 points

I hope the winner is someone who is a huge fan of Green Day, and not someone who only likes Basket Case, American Idiot and "that I walk alone song".. Nothing wrong with being a casual fan but this prize is so awesome I want it to be truly appreciated by whoever wins! So bummed that I can't participate in this contest.2 points

I gained a new appreciation of the song because of the video. Same thing happened with Rev Rad for me, the videos made me like the songs more. (I already loved BB and SB before the vids). I can't wait for the FN vid.1 point

My dad reckons that the first line of Good Riddance is "another turnip boy, a fork stuck in the road."1 point

Reminds me a little of this one: "I don't like actors," spits Billie Joe. "And I hate other musicians, except for the ones that I already knew or the few that are cool. I don't want to become an actor and I'm insulted when actors become musicians. I'm just not into the whole rubbing shoulders with the big boys kind of thing. I'm doing just fine without them."1 point

Pretty risky move with his phone though. Many a times I've hit the pool at the bottom and flipped. And he had to do the slide one handed and keep the phone steady. Mad skillz.1 point

Absolutely stunning pictures! He posted just the water slide video first then it disappeared (but I was able to play it by going back) and I thought he'd accidentally posted to "the billiejoearmstrong". The caption was something like "sometimes a waterslide puts life into perspective", lmao.1 point

This is why I say the movie is very relatable if you're of the age and have kids. The "still okay" part is the message that at some point in your life, you start living for your kids' futures and come to terms with your own past. It doesn't mean music can't still be a part of his life (he puts up a sign at the guitar shop for kids guitar lessons, he gets his daughter the guitar you know he wanted and he offers to start a band with her) but your focus shifts so that it's no longer all about you. That may not sound uplifting when you're 20, but it can be a very satisfying thing at 40 to come to terms with. That was the message of the movie. ETA: Further I think the movie did a good job of showing how his life was now markedly different from that of his single friends who still only focus on themselves. Sad and confusing for him at first, but in the end he sees the good.1 point

Yeah I was going to say I think the OP missed that bit. I like the movie. The script isn't perfect but it felt relateable for the over 40 set, just with how your life could turn out different from what you thought but still okay. I love his acting in it, he's natural and funny and great with one on one dialogue. I very much want to see him try something else.1 point

Perhaps I should have said it's unintentionally hilarious There are so many little things that look a lot like "plot simplifications" (that moment when he fishes out a capo out of his pocket because that's what you carry around 24/7) and then there's the whole story - that's as if it was written by a kid. Everybody acts like an idiot and it doesn't seem very realistic, but I found that funny too. It's a silly movie but that fit Billie's acting, so it's ok. I enjoyed it. Actually I was thinking about OW this morning. Yesterday I saw an Elvis movie, and let me tell you, they knew how to make the fangirls happy. The whole movie is just Elvis being sexy, talking in a raspy voice (just got outta the state pen y'know) ofc wearing short sleeves, singing or laying around in bed. It was the corniest thing I have EVER seen, but I totally see how awesome it was. If we were in the 50's, I'll be one of the screaming fangirls at his shows, I have no doubt. Why I'm saying this is that watching that film, I came to the conclusion that Billie needs to make another movie, but this time with a less dorky story/character. I never really care about his acting but it could be pretty awesome to see him on screen again. Now I hope the AI thing happens and he gets to play St. Jimmy. I never cared about it or wanted it to happen but hot damn, imagine something like The Wall but with AI and broadway Billie in it. That would be so rad.1 point

That is fuckin insanity. They seriously going to play a private show for the winner? And they must be in the LA area? Holy pooooooop1 point

That's even smaller than the 1234Go records shows. Sounds like a kick for the band. They'd probably love to play Eggplant's backyard again. Once upon a time they begged to play people's houses. Now they're a grand prize. 😊💚1 point

Amen! Beautiful. I love it so much when he screams "Can you feel me?", because yes Billie, we can.1 point

Viva la Gloria is practically perfect, but the melody and harmonies after the guitars kick in especially are like a drug to me This from St. Louis last night is Billie at his finest, I love him so much (#kfadhatersgohome)1 point

^^ Agree. 21 people?? That's surely got to be a contender for most intimate post Dookie Green Day gig ever? Lucky sons of bitches. Hope we get to see some of it1 point

It's a beautiful thing every time they do it but the No Racism.. chant from Omaha makes me really proud of them, and of being a fan. Like somebody commented on Billie's latest insta post, the fact that they're using their voice/platform to promote positive change is so important and what makes them so real and admirable. Just scrolling through a bunch of those comments is pretty inspiring, as well.1 point

Wait, how is the theatrical, political rock opera American Idiot gutless pop punk shit? They literally scrapped an album that was that and made American Idiot instead of it . And then 21st CB went even more theatrical and ambitious. Surely their older simpler stuff is closer to that description? And they've always made melodic/catchy/radio friendly songs since day one, that's just how they write music.1 point
-
American Idiot was a huge risk that they feared people would hate. They certainly didn't do it because it was the mainstream, popular thing, they did it to challenge themselves. They've always done what they wanted except there are some fans that just want them to do Kerplunk over and over. They've had an impressive range over the years which has been much more interesting as a fan. I love that there's an album that suits my every mood.1 point

I can't believe it's officially been a year since we got Bang Bang I'll never forget hearing it on the radio for the first time, what a great day... and then having it on repeat for days and not getting sick of it. Still not tired of it now, whenever I put it on it brings back the happy feeling of hearing it for the first time1 point

Jesus of Suburbia is a great song, pretty much all Green Day fans can agree on that. Sometimes though it just feels like I truly understand and can appreciate what a fucking masterpiece it really is. Every time I listen to it recently I get chills. I love the fact that I've known and loved this song for 13 years, yet it still catches me by surprise with how amazing it is. God I love this band.1 point
