  1. Okay, so I actually made the sign! Turned out okay.

  2. I see no reason why Adrienne would be upset or jealous of Billie writing about past romances. Part of a great relationship is being honest and open and that includes discussing the past. If I told my husband that I never wonder what happened to my ex-fiancee I would be lying to him. The only difference here is that Billie is a songwriter and he puts his thoughts on paper.

  3. I can't think of which interviews exactly but I think he (and also Adrienne in an old Idiot Club one I remember) has said there's just certain people who leave a big impression on you in life and she was a "one who got away" who was that for him. I doubt he's still in love with her, seems like she/their relationship just made a lasting impact on him so became a go-to reference for writing songs about relationships. He kind of wraps things up nicely in the song Amanda, sounds like closure over it.

  4. I guess people think she would be because he still thinks about her (or did for a long time). But regardless, if they have a healthy relationship then she still wouldn't be jealous. I mean, it's really normal to wonder about "the one that got away". I know I wouldn't be jealous if my fiance said he wonders about an ex, because I trust him completely, but maybe I'm a non-human too

  5. Natural Jealousy instinct??? There is nothing natural about jealousy. IF you trust someone in a relationship, be it romantic or just a friendly relationship, jealousy is not something that should enter into the equation.

  6. Well it's not like he's declaring his undying love for her , he just draws from his past experiences to write about relationships/breakups etc. The proper love songs are for Adrienne and there's plenty of them!

  7. Billie met her in summer 1990. He wrote 2000 Light Years Away in 1991. They both dated other people on/off between 1990 and 94, but they would call each other a lot on the phone. Billie and Amanda dated for about a year and broke up right before Dookie came out. In spring of 1994 Adrienne moved to California and married Billie in June. That's what the song "Westbound Sign" is about.

  8. Different relationships leave different impacts on people. She was around during the most difficult phase of his life, when Green Day "sold out". He did a lot of changing and growing up that year, and maybe he does still love her. She broke up with him partially because of the "sell out", and I'm sure that impacted him in many different ways. I'm sure Billie could write a whole lot of songs about this part of his life because of those reasons.

  9. Every time I see gd live I always see people fangirling and screaming as soon as Billie looks in their general direction. I, however, always stand there thinking "Oh my god, look at him, he's so tiny! Look at his tiny legs!" When did I go from fangirling to cooing at them as if they're puppies?

  10. Wait...if this amanda broke up with him, and we pretty much saw he wasnt pleased with how it ended...well i doubt he'd still be in love with her... he is probably still hurt by her actions...so why would you be jealous of somone that hurt your husband?

  11. Exactly? It can only come from a lack of trust so it isn't natural. Obviously we'll never know for sure what's going on behind closed doors, so no one can answer that question with 100% certainty (and nor should we be able to). But if their relationship is as healthy as they portray it to be, then it's totally normal and expected that she's never been jealous.

  12. Yes it's a common cause of the end of the relationships because it's a human instinct when you're in love, even if you trust that person. It's just that some people are able to rise above it and see the bigger picture for the good of the relationship, and some people can't. There is just no conceivable way that Adrienne never felt some feelings of jealousy towards Amanda with some of the lyrics Billie has written about her. She would have to be non-human to be in love with someone and not feel a twinge of that. But she is an incredible person who can look past those feelings and rise above them, partly because she does trust Billie and has faith in their relationship. Darn phone.

  14. I find this topic about Amanda and Adrienne so fascinating. I never knew that between 90-94 Billie and Adie dated other people and that's when Billie was with Amanda. I thought he was with her when he was younger. I agree that it's perfectly fine that Billie writes about her in songs and there's good reason, but Adrienne is such a good person to not let the natural jealousy instinct get the better of her. A lot of people wouldn't be able to do that. Are there any updates on Amanda? Did she just disappear, never to be heard from or seen again? Are there current pictures of her?

  16. My favorite Green Day reference is in El Scorcho by Weezer. Rivers is a big GD fan.

  17. Dude, this was exactly me as well. I was in High School when Warning came out and Green Day was my favorite band by that point. I remember getting Warning the DAY that it came out also, and being so caught off guard when the album was so different from their earlier stuff. The acoustics, the cleaner guitar tones, the more upbeat and sort of hopeful melodies and lyrics... at first I was just kind of in a weird shock about it all, but it didn't take long for it to grow on me, and easily became the soundtrack to my last couple years in High School. I think Warning is my favorite record to this day. That album is perfect. The good ol' days indeed!

  19. The moment you realise Billie is on GDC reading the comments... Hey Billie, change the fucking setlist

  22. My suggestion would be not to research the setlists - just have a blast on your concert date.

  23. They're not released. With Green Day they very rarely change the setlist up on a given tour, but you do get the occasional rarity or older song thrown in somewhere towards the middle. If you check setlist.fm you'll see that the vast majority of shows on a given tour are almost identical.

  24. Billie's speech during that one Viva La Gloria is one of my all time favorite Green Day moments. He talks about living in the moment, and Frans Ferdinand playing across the street, etc. Billie starts singing "Hallelujah" and it's the most beautiful thing on the planet. And I just recently fell in love with Leonard Cohen's song by the same name, so I'm thinking that's what the reference was. It gives me the chills.

  26. I'm not sure if I mentioned it before, but last year I got the special edition of American Idiot with the artbook for only 2 bucks since I had store credit. Recently, a record store closing where I live decided to give away the rest of its stock for free and this dude had a TON of old magazines. I was lucky enough to score these babies:
