Brutal Love is probably my favorite song of theirs, and possibly my favorite song, period. There's something so visceral about it. Brilliantly written and so emotionally performed.6 points

The Oh Love video was awful. But I don't blame the band for it when Sam Bayer supposedly came out of retirement to direct it Not saying they had no say in it, but I doubt it was all them with a director like that (yes, I know how it works, my fiance is a musician) and Billie not being in a great state of mind. It's a shame because I actually like the way it's shot and the location, and the models thing could have been done well but it wasn't. Kill the DJ was pretty bad too, the bike part has no relevance to the rest at all5 points

Brutal Love is a masterpiece. First time I actually cried at a GD show in 2013 at Rock am Ring when they played it. For me, it's the perfect closer, because I love to see the whole band on stage for the last song. It's not that I don't like Good Riddance, but Brutal Love is so full of energy and emotion and way better in my opinion. It makes me sad that it's never been a single, it would be an awesome radio anthem. I really wish they will put it back on the setlist one day.5 points

I like that line. It definitely helps convey the "oh fuck" theme running through the song. Fell For You is one of my favourite Green Day love songs. In other news, repping the trilogy #trilogy4lyf A guy once spotted this t-shirt and my Uno Chucks and started ranting about how new Green Day sucks. It was a bad time.5 points

Meh I think the Oh Love video was just badly executed. It was supposed to be more like they were characters, rockstars and models hanging out together and fancying each other and being outrageous, all about feeling lust to represent the song. But it's not pulled off well at all and just looks like the band as themselves posing with models awkwardly. I think if it had been done more over the top/directed and acted better so it was obvious they were playing characters it could've worked. Wasn't offended by the idea of it, rockstars lusting after models because they're models and models lusting after rockstars because they're rockstars seems a fairly even thing. Also on the plus side Billie is hot in it4 points

Billie's expressions on those two - especially the last one! Still manages to look so cute even with that chipped front tooth though!3 points
-
Didn't even think of it that way, even better . It always makes me think of that "like a dog [horrible fart noise] that just pissed on the barbecue" line in Sick of Me as well (incidentally there was an interview around that time where Billie mentioned that he had actually pissed on a barbecue recently lol). But of course no one ever complains about that since it's not on the trilogy, they're allowed to have funny/silly lyrics on other albums3 points
-
I always liked that line because I took it as he was surprised that he didn't piss the bed.3 points
-
Haha I find the pissed the bed line amusingly blunt. Plus going by the number of pissing stories Billie's told over the years it's most likely inspired by real life experience3 points

I kind of need someone to hold my hand and tell me I'm not crazy or dreaming. I've now bought my tickets to see Green Day for every date they're playing in Australia. It was a bit of a rash decision to add Perth and I guess I didn't believe it was happening until I clicked to pay for my ticket. This is all very overwhelming. I've never seen them more than once on a tour before, and now I'm seeing them five times in less than two weeks?! Help me, I don't know how to process my emotions right now. Is this actually real life? I can't really talk to anyone about this because no one seems to truly understand how much this band means to me3 points
-
Yeah, which communicates how intense his feelings were. I'm also happy to be analysing this lyric Going to listen to it now2 points

I think I've managed to block out a lot of what surrounded the Trilogy, mercifully, as I have no idea what you're talking about and intend to promptly forget about it My excitement didn't even last long enough to make it to the release of Dos, thinking about it. I jumped off the train and stayed off before that. I entirely agree the Trilogy doesn't really seem worth everything that was dragged along behind it, but also if it was what they needed to go through in order to come out of it stronger and more united as both people and a band, then I can live with it. Plus it did give us Brutal Love It didn't exactly ruin my view of them, but it sure tainted it for a long time Not so much Billie because I know he wasn't well, but he's only one guy in what was a band of four at the time And to be honest I don't think any creative decisions are made without the band's final approval, so ultimately it does rest on them whether the original concept was theirs or not.2 points

When I say disappointing, I mean more in the sense that I never imagined they'd stoop to the level of such blatant objectification as they did with that video. Green Day had always felt safe, where as a woman I could have faith these were some good men who might have a little more respect on the whole for women. Billie looks good, but that's not nearly enough to save it for me. Dark times. You've perfectly put my thoughts into words. I never would have expected a video like that from them, so it was a pretty rough way to realise maybe these guys weren't the people I had always believed them to be It started them off completely on the wrong foot and then the Trilogy just all went downhill from there. I understand Billie was ill, but I do question why the other guys went along with it. Something I think is better not to think about, because I do believe they're all good people. Still You're basing this on the assumption that all of us are straight. I'm not, but that's irrelevant to what a sharp downward turn they took in my eyes with that video, and that was what set the tone for the Trilogy from the off2 points
-
They definitely made that video a little better for the guys! Not too much happens, just the guys jammin' out with some beers while the ladies hang around and watch. For a guy, this is clearly more entertaining than for a female fan who I can see would have no use for the video. But Billie does look damn good rite?2 points
-
I remember being so very pissed off when I first saw that video (kinda still annoyed by it, but I'm willing to forgive and forget that one). Green Day had never put out a serious video about partying with half-naked chicks before. The women in a video like Holiday weren't meant to be taken seriously, but these women were. That distinction, and the idea that Green Day had become that band, really bothered me. That video went against everything I always thought them to be, and put me off of the Trilogy right away. Things got worse before they got better, but now we've got a good thing going on.2 points

Oh Love is my least favourite music video basically ever It's uncomfortable to watch and in many ways disappointing. I just watched it for the second or third time ever, and... yeah, still no.2 points

I think I can understand you. GD in some ways changed my (rather short) life during a bad period, so it means a lot to me too... OK: No. You are not crazy! I can tell you this is real life, the boring, difficult life... But over 365 boring days, 5 of your days will be green. I'll live just one green day, the first of my life, and you can't know how much I am excited. I think about GD more or less 30 times a day, I have always music in my head and songs recall me different periods of my existance. Every time I listen to a song I think about the first time I heard it, then I start wondering when it was, what happened and so on. I shiver every time I do that and that's one of the greatest things a one could do. This is just my modest opinion. I hope I got the point.2 points

I loved Brutal Love followed by Good Riddance at Brixton in 2013, couldn't get a more perfect ending! Can't complain too much about it being gone since I've already got to see it but it would be great if they brought it back.2 points
-
That's how they flow together, but I agree that Forever Now is the better end.2 points
-
I'd like to see a 65 song show. Keep the Hey Oh's away and it could be done in 3 1/2 hours. A 50 song setlist would be more realistic though. Billie can't stop with the Hey Oh's.2 points

Kill the dj was hilarious! I didn't say so. Of course they had to approve it but I blame Sam Bayer for how poorly executed his videos for the trilogy were. One thing is that I don't find the Oh Love video hot. Another thing is that it lacks any idea aside from let's shoot the guys drinking beer and the gals...well, just being there. It's bland and boring.1 point
-
The Kill the DJ video was so STUPID, sweet lord. It could've had a cooler concept, too. Damn it, Trilogy.1 point
-
He should. Like I said badly executed though1 point
-
Everything I read about the video is that it was supposed to mock the "rockstar" lifestyle, so I think you are right in your assessment1 point
-
Congrats on blocking those bits out, I'm happy for you. I agree, though—everything that has happened has gotten us here, which is a point I feel pretty grateful for. I wish that stuff didn't need to happen, but it did happen, so now what's left is to be so super happy and proud of what the result is. @Hermione Billie probably should've been shirtless to make it more equal, then.1 point
-
Said it 100 times - worst thing they are done - but I love the song When BJ pulls his shirt to the side & says flesh in Brutal Love is probably one of my favourite things to watch - fangirl moment1 point
-
OK the fart noise has been complained about, fair enough. But the piss lyric hasn't And yeah, it's the fact he'd think he'd pissed the bed before he'd think he'd just been sweating though . I guess it indicates that it was an unusually large amount of sweat. (btw I'm so happy to be analysing this lyric )1 point

So you're saying the band had no say so in the oh love video? You do know it doesn't work that way right?1 point

My distaste for the Oh Love video was punctuated by interviews where they described the trilogy as being all about sexual tension and shooting from the crotch and I was like, "What the hell is this? This isn't you." I peaced out for a while after that. It is hard to describe just how happy I am that whole period is behind us. It kinda just sucked all around. The Trilogy has some great songs but it just wasn't worth everything that it brought with it.1 point
-
I watched it twice. It's just boring. Billie looks good in it but not even that is enough. I don't know how unpopular it is: I like Bang Bang the video. I saw it on TV this evening and thought it fits the song very well.1 point

I'd love an ultra-long setlist as well! Enough room for all the classics as well as new material. I agree that 50 songs (even though it could be considered as pushing it - not at all IMO!) is more realistic though. And sometimes, I just really can't get enough of the Hey Oh's, although with the time spent, GD could probably fit and extra 5/6 songs into the show!1 point

I tried to choose songs for a setlist album by album last week. In short, I had 65 songs on it! I'll need to narrow it down this week. I'm loving everyone else's setlists though. It's great that there's songs from each aspect and album of Green Day's career!1 point

That was a one off show. Something different. Here's the following show: 1. Say Goodbye 2. Bouncing off the Walls 3. My Generation 4. Welcome to Paradise 5. Holiday 6. Jesus of Suburbia 7. She 8. Still Breathing 9. Dirty Rotten Bastards 10. Nice Guys Finish Last 11. The Saints are Coming 12. Boulevard of Broken Dreams 13. X-Kid 14. Walking Contradiction 15. Macy’s Day Parade Green Day appear to have wrapped it up early, and it doesn’t look like there will be an encore. People are leaving the venue and then suddenly BLAM: Green Day run back onstage and tear into RevRad’s title track. This ain’t no encore baby, this is two shows in one! 16. Revolution Radio 17. We are the Champions / Candle in the Wind 1997 / Fat Bottom Girls / Welcome to the Jungle 18. Outlaws 19. Platypus (I hate you) 20. In the End 21. Having a Blast 22. Forever Now 23. Somewhere Now 24. The Static Age 25. Hitchin a Ride 26. Basketcase 27. Know Your Enemy 28. St. Jimmy 29. American Idiot1 point

Honestly, I don't care what they play. My ideal show would just to see them play at a really small venue. Like 1234 Go Records or the KROQ Red Bull Soundspace, like max 300 people. That would be insanely awesome.1 point

It's going to be magical when Young Blood becomes the most successful song in the history of songs and you're the only person who doesn't like it. Young Blood Tour! ALBUM 13: The Young Blood Chronicles! ALBUM 14: Young Blood Returns: The Quest for Young Blood ALBUM 15: Okay, We're Old. Sorry, I got nothing better to to. I am listening to that interview they did for my hometown, pretty awesome. What do you think of She's a Rebel as a closer? 1. Young Blood 2. Too Dumb to Die 3. Bouncing of the Wall 4. Homecoming 5. Reject 6. Jesus of Suburbia 7. Panic Song 8. St. Jimmy 9. King for a Day 10. Eye of the Tiger / Hybrid Moments / Brown Sugar / He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands 11. American Eulogy 12. The One I Want 13. Oh Girl 14. Waiting 15. JAR 16. Horseshoes and Hand grenades 17. She 18. Viva La Gloria 19. Jinx 20. 80 21. Dirty Rotten Bastards 22. Fell For You ENCORE: 23. Minority 24. She’s a Rebel1 point

I've come to realize how Static Age should have been the next single after 21 Guns. It is so powerful, catchy and radio friendly (especially back then) I'm sure it would have done pretty well on the charts. I've never understood why they gave up on promoting properly the singles after 21 Guns anyway.1 point

I'm amazed to see how "Too Dumb Too Die" doesn't seem to be appreciated that much, I immediately fell in love with that song and it is actually one of my favorite on Revrad.1 point

Unpopular opinion(?) I don't care for Outlaws and it has to be my least favorite song on RevRad1 point

Remember to remove videos and images from quotes people It's open because threads for talking about all Green Day's albums are allowed on GDC not just the new one. If you don't like it don't post in it. Some of Seagull's posts might be stupid shit but so is making fun of someone for liking a Green Day album and trying to prevent them from talking about it while on a Green Day forum. "I wouldn't say I'm straight 'cause I'm bent out of shape" is the most badass line of the trilogy and one of my favourite GD lyrics, that whole part of the song including the solo before it is so cool! I know people like to dwell on one deliberately silly joke line but that's not all there is to the song . I love Troublemaker and Uno! Did u know Drama Queen was originally on 21st CB? It was on early tracklistings and versions of the album played for journalists and they had to change it right at the last minute when they decided to replace it with Murder City. Could it be you like a 21st CB song?1 point
