I feel like my mum loves Green Day more than I do On Friday she comes into my room and shows me this video, and when I explained to her what Blue means to Billie and that it's a pretty big deal he let a fan play it, she started crying. Then tonight she showed her partner the video, and made me repeat the information about Blue... then she started crying again 😂5 points

It's just more likely people are going to have a positive opinion of a Green Day album/song on a Green Day fansite, so a negative opinion is more likely to be met with disagreement and a positive one is more likely to be met with agreement. Doesn't necessarily mean someone objects to the negative opinion being posted just because they disagree with it, I know when I post to disagree about a song or whatever it's just to state my opinion on it in response and hopefully sometimes have an interesting discussion.3 points

A few months ago my mom and I were watching Green Day's induction to the RR Hall of Fame, I haven't seen it since it happen and it was the first time my mom watched it, so I told her "don't say anything if I start crying haha" so when Tré started his speech I started to cry and then my mom started to cry too, and when Billie gave his speech it was worst haha, but I guess it was cause my mom has been aware of everything Green Day does since I became a fan, she loves a lot of songs and she thinks Billie it's so cute, and of course when he went to rehab, my mom saw how worry and sad I was, and I think she also cried cause I told her about the RS magazine interview and how bad Billie told he was back then. My mom knows how important they are to me, so I'm glad she worries or at least she gets happy to see them good and well. Sorry for this post, nothing important, I know, but Wretched and Divine's comment made remember when that happen and that was such an special moment for me *and sorry for the bad english.3 points

I don't think the issue with Youngblood is that people are misunderstanding the sentiment. I didn't think he was trying to write from a teenager's point of view or anything like that - even if he was it wouldn't bother me, because I don't actually take issue with a guy his age writing about infatuation, sex, etc. I never understood the disgust over that content on the trilogy, tbh. I also don't mind simple and/or cheesy love songs. It's just that I find Youngblood's lyrics weak and somewhat nonsensical regardless of the sentiment. I actually think most of the trilogy love songs capture some of the feelings he was trying to convey in Youngblood better, which I guess is also an unpopular opinion? Because even though people hate Youngblood I assume they hate the trilogy more2 points

Whatever it is about the song, "Youngblood" doesn't come off as cringey to me in any way. It sounds playful and sweet, and I don't really care what Billie's age is. Additionally, whether he's singing based on past memories or his feelings now, what's so wrong with people still being in love years later? In regard to the Trilogy, what's wrong with married people still wanted to fuck each other's brains out? Just in general, there seems to be this air of misery attached to marriage. People call it a "ball and chain." People laugh at the notion of married people still having any sort of romantic interest in each other after x amount of years. And yeah, a ton of marriages do SUCK and FAIL, and even successful marriages change and face difficulties, but why hate on people who may be still happy together after 15-20 yrs? Why can't Billie talk about his wife like they're young love? Every time older people talk about love, people expect negativity and "realism." Well maybe that's why marriages fail so much; we expect them to.2 points

Because of the nature of RevRad and it's variety of sounds, it's really amazing to change to the order of the songs and listen to it that way. You can order it from fast to slow, slow to fast. I myself am trying to build the concept from rearranging the songs in the correct order. It will all make sense when I get them in the original order as they were meant to be.2 points

I think because it's somewhat slow and placed on the wrong part of the album... I think it would have been a great last song.. take out Ordinary World and replace that song with Outlaws. I love Ordinary World but I was really hoping for a great rendition of 'Olivia' to be on the album. I'm drunk as fuck right now cuz I watched football (Go Pats) so forget everything I just typed. You are beautiful cuz I love woman with Australian accents. That's all that really matters. Peace and love.2 points

Eh, people are pretty defensive and protective of the people/things they love. A criticism of a certain album, for example, can be viewed as an insult to someone who loves that particular album. I've personally not seen people here acting like that? Disagreements are going to be pretty standard in a thread with "unpopular opinions" in its title, but that doesn't mean people are intolerant of the criticism.2 points

Always always going to be my favourite. Musically and lyrically, I prefer 21CB and listen to it a lot more, but Warning is so special to me. It's nestled in a part of me that's too strongly connected with a wistful nostalgia from when I first discovered the band after American Idiot and started that wonderful first foray into the discography of a band you love too hard to express in words. This was the album that made me realise I was probably going to stick by this band for real, that it wasn't going to just be one of those teenage phases that you grow out of.2 points

To be fair that line's pretty mumbled already2 points

I don't think it's trying too hard. I think it's a memory song. A song of a middle-agged guy remembering how he was and how her beloved were 20 or more years before, when they met, and how was that feeling. As a look back, it certainly don't have all the feelings of the moment, which the early green day songs of 1039 and kerplunk have, but it's more like a revisitation of that time and the impact that love had. I don't know, sometimes I think people have difficult to deal with the songs Billie Joe have been writing nowadays about his past, maybe because he wrote about his past when it was his present, years ago. There seems to be a lot of misunderstanding about some trilogy songs and youngblood, about that. He is not trying to copy himself in those songs, or pretend he is young again, in my opinion, but rather revisit his youth, from a diferent perspective, and maybe tell again one story or another, but differentely. He is looking at his memories and thinking about how it was like back then, how he sees it now, or remembering how he felt like. If find it very interesting, and it happens in many songs like amanda, sex drugs and violence, sweet 16, youngblood, too dumb to die, x-kid, etc, etc.2 points
-
No one seems to be seeing this song as two people still able to find their youth within a 20+ year relationship. It's not about finding young love coming from a 44 year old at all. If you want that, take a look at a number of trilogy songs. This song is about looking at the person you're with, that you've been with for ages and you see the wrinkles and lines and you've been through a lot...but you still see the youth, the spunk, the fire that brought you together in the first place. When I hear Youngblood, I hear Billie looking at Adrienne and thinking "Yep, she's still the girl I fell in love with."2 points
-
I'm kind of surprised so many people think Youngblood is from married-for-20+-years Billie's perspective. From the first time I heard it, I figured it was his perspective from around the time they first met? I mean, "getting drunk and falling into hedges" should surely make it quite clear it's not based on current events given his sobriety2 points

Depth = / = negativity. Sure, be happy about it, be fun, but put some thought into it. Only Of You is a pure love song but it's so much better.1 point
-
Sweet 16 is about his 16th wedding anniversary though But yeah, he did still write about a young girl in other songs so I guess if that's something that bothers you it's still a valid point.1 point

My new girlfriend told me she has "two Green Day CDs". Nimrod (good choice!) and some other one. Probably Dookie, but she couldn't remember. I shall keep her. That counts, right?1 point

Maybe because when you're young, love is dramatic and unstable, but now that's he's wiser and mature, he looks back at it as a really special time. Also, the lyrics aren't about "sunshine and sparkles." But again, I think the lyrics are so much less cringey because of the music surrounding them. The song is like being high on love. Also, the whole part leading up to and including "fuck you I'm from Oakland" is incredibly funny and critical of the "sunshine and rose" mentality. He's literally pouring his heart out to her with a bunch of cliched and pining questions, and she's like "eh, I don't buy that sissy crap."1 point

You feeling like a cello at the moment? When will you be coming down so we can discuss how smart I am? Here is the slow to fast version of RevRad: Ordinary World / Outlaws / Still Breathing / Troubled Times / Say Goodbye / Somewhere now / Too Dumb / FOrever Now / RevRad / Young / Bouncing / Bang and then reverse that for fastest to slowest.1 point

Haha lol. Forever Now is just the ultimate erection then It's definitely P.S. this is war1 point

O.K. thank you... I love that song. Also, same song, Billie sings 'there's a soldier freaking out, P.S. this is war' I thought it was BECAUSE this is war... I dunno, I love that song no matter what. Anyone have sex while listening to the album? It kicks ass until 'Ordinary World' comes on because ya kinda have to slow down a little... and that's if you males out there can last 40 minutes. =) I did and, yes, I'm bragging. I love my penis.1 point

Honestly my only wish is that they play Jesus of Suburbia. That's my all time favorite song. They could just have a 9 minute show with that one song and I'd be happy with it.1 point

True, but it depends on the pronunciation. The archaic form has the soft A sound and gives it a different meaning. /nerd1 point

BEST EASTENDERS MOMENT EVER? I don't think he's too old for this type of songs either but as @Wretched & Divine said I consider this song as looking at your past feelings and make a new song out of it. I mean your memories can take you back. Don't know if you like Sweet 16, but I see those two songs being from the same perspective of looking back. Don't know which one I like better because neither of them are much interesting for me. But to be honest I don't have a "big" problem with lyrics on Youngblood, the only thing that I don't like about this song is a quite boring chorus lyrically and musically actually too, you know.. And I think that line like getting drunk and falling into hedges is quite honest and amusing at the same time, like making a fool of yourself and don't feel ashamed for it, being looser but being able to fall in love at least. It's quite fun song to listen to but nothing ground breaking, but many things aren't, that's fine. I'm still able to enjoy this song pretty much which is the most important thing for me right now1 point

That is this event that area artists will perform songs from American Idiot: http://www.houseseatspresents.com/event/green-days-american-idiot/1 point

Probably because it was too much of a departure for them at the time. It's a bit middle of the road in places, and I can understand why people find the title track boring due to its repetition. That said, I wish it wasn't under appreciated because it's bloody fantastic.1 point

Finally a Green Day fan who has some class and brings bitching about scalpers from GDC to the parliament where it belongs. Seriously, this legislation is much-needed.1 point
-
A British MP (member of parliament), Nigel Adams, just mentioned his disappointment when trying to buy tickets for 'one of his favourite bands, Green Day', when raising a question about legislating ticket resales sites during Prime Minister's Questions!! Transcript: 'A few weeks ago, I thought I'd successfully bought 4 tickets online for one of my favourite bands, Green Day, only to be told that the tickets were unavailable and the gig sold out. But within minutes, I could buy the tickets on another site for twice the price. It turns out the ticket site had been the victim of a computerized attack by organised touts, who then resell the tickets at inflated prices. Will the prime minister ask her ministers to give close consideration to my amendment to the digital economy act, which would make the computerized harvesting of tickets for resale an offence. Similar legislation exists elsewhere, and it would go a long way to protecting consumers and genuine music fans.' Video:1 point

I love Warning! It's up there with AI, Nimrod and Dookie for me. I don't know why I haven't seen this thread before. It was the second album I bought, only after American Idiot. I love it because the songs are so different, but they're still so good. Maybe because I'm in to music that's a little experimental and strange, it was just really exciting to have one of my favourite bands produce a record like this. It's also got one of my favourites on it - Castaway. As well as Minority, Deadbeat Holiday, and Misery. They're all so good!1 point

This fuck up everyone is talking about is in the final chorus when Billie sings chu-urch on Sunday because the drums breakdown I think. But it sounds intentional to me or at the very least they played it recovered and liked how it sounded.1 point
