I also consider them a trio and always will. However, if just the three of them played live, their shows would change dramatically. Billie could not do what he does on stage without guitar help.6 points

I don't mind the extra people on stage. After all, they're only there to make the music sound better and to give Billie the opportunity to interact more with the crowd. It's not like they're actually a part of the band. It's kind of the same like when a solo musician has some extra musicians on stage with them or some dancers, they're only there for the show, nothing else.5 points

I don't consider Jason to be a good guitarist at all. He often struggles to play his part without mistakes. Even though Billie pobably makes more mistakes, he's an overall better guitarist in my opinion. I also don't like it when he plays the Pre-Warning songs, especially if it's something like 2,000 LYA, where only Mike and Tre keep the beat. It must be really akward for him to stand in the front line, staring at the massive audience and doing nothing. Then again, at least he's not that dude who stands behind an amp/monitor just for back vocals (can't remember his name, is it Jeff or something?). I do like his attitude of being a private person unless he's asked to talk.3 points

Insomniac is currently my favorite album, tied with Kerplunk. But I don't want "Another Insomniac", it'll end up with forced lyrics, boring music* and people will be like "Billie is trying too much" all over again. No thank you. * Insomniac has poor guitar work, but the bass and drums are what really drive this album. In my opinion, this album has the best bass work they've even done, American Idiot and Kerplunk have the best drum work, anything from Nimrod and further have great guitar work.2 points

For me, Insomniac is perfect. I like all the songs, and think it's a great album. It's really surprising find out that many people don't like it.2 points

I don't think the world needs another Insomniac but I consider it a great album and I'm very glad they've done such a punk record. It's just awesome that the same band who did Jaded is the same band that recorded songs like Last Night On Earth or Ordinary World. What makes me like Green Day is that they their records have some variety. There's Insomniac, there is Warning and there's 21CB and all the albums in between and what makes their discography so awesome is watching this evolution. The punk album just had to happen.2 points

Insomniac is my least favourite album By a mile.2 points

Having Jason and the others isn't strictly necessary for a great show (my parents first saw them on the Nimrod tour and were shocked at how 3 people could put on such an incredible gig), but they are necessary for how they do shows these days and I have no problem with any of them.2 points

Reject is a very underrated Nimrod song. As is Protethic Head. Of all the naughty songs on Nimrod, Protethic deserves more love.2 points

I have to disagree because I think it is much more than that. Billie is technically a better player. Neither one is playing anything difficult. We all know that the songs are fairly easy to play. However, Billie is very tight where Jason is not. Thus, I would think that Billie could handle something much more difficult if he chose, where Jason I don't think could.2 points

After first 3 or 4 listens of Rev Rad I thought this will be in my top 4 albums - I think now it is more like in my bottom 4 albums. I still like the album but its no Insomniac or Warning.2 points

In Revolution Radio, instead of 'legalise the truth', I hear 'we call lies the truth'. I thought it was a commentary of newspaper headlines not being entirely truthful!2 points

reading comments about Insomniac, you guys are right. it's not something that's 'outside the box', and it's funny because people who are neutral fans are like "ugh i miss their old shit" are the same people that say "fucken same 3 chord progression", blah blah. ummmm.. that WAS their old shit. their new shit has moved away from just your standard 3 chord progression. not sure if i made sense then, but just thinking.1 point

I know this comes up alot, but people always seem to mistake my comments for Insomniac as that I dislike it. I don't, I do like it, just not as much as the other GD albums (except for 1039). And it really doesn't have to do with the music as much as the execution. As you said before, one of the reasons many of us love this band is because they are always willing to take chances, to try something outside the box. It may not be something big, but it is there. For me, that makes them never go stale. Insomniac is the only album where they did not do that. It is the same 3 chord power chords songs with inaudible vocals. All the songs are the same style. I learned to play pretty much every song on Insomniac is less than an hour. While I enjoy many of the songs on Insomniac, I get bored listening to the same thing over and over again. If they made the album differently, with mixing those songs on other albums, I probably would love them.1 point

I love it too but I get it's not eveyone's cup of tea. It's punkier than anything else they've done, it's not exactly musically inovative and the vocals are hardly audible. It's only good when you're a punk fan. It's one of my favorite albums of all time and it is a great one - just less universally likeable compared to other GD albums.1 point

Jason performs much better in Pinhead Gunpowder for some reason. Anyone heard him playing in his other bands and can compare to his performance in Green Day?1 point
-
Agreed. I like Brain Stew and Walking Contradiction, but I don't enjoy the album anywhere near as much as I enjoy the other albums.1 point

Hahaha, that's exactly what I think sometimes, especially when I watch photos or videos of the shows. I really like Jason, but sometimes he just seems a bit lost in all the craziness on stage Like he accidentally stumbled on stage and asks himself "Where the hell am I?" Sometimes when I see them live, I don't even notice Jason (visually), and when Billie introduces the band I'm like "Oh, there he is." But I also think he's very important for the live shows, I love Billie's interacting and wouldn't want to miss it.1 point

Still Breathing is disappointing, I was expecting much more from the rehab song. I get why people say it's relatable, okay, but this doesn't mean it's well written. It's not like I was expecting overly-complicated lines or some oscure Rimbaud reference by the way, Bj has written excellent songs without needing any of that. I'm like a soldier coming home for the first time I'm like a mother barely keeping it together In my opinion those lines are terribly cheap, a cheap wink. A song isn't automatically good just because of the theme and what it means for the author and the listeners. Same thing for Troubled Times, falsely deep lyrics with an empty chorus: We. Live. In. Troubled. Times.1 point

I agree I just read through all the lyrics there and found out that in Too Dumb To Die it's supposed to be "Looking for a buzz" instead of "Looking for a cause" in the first chorus I definitely hear "cause"...1 point

I thought the chorus of RevRad was "Give me cherry bombs and gasoline, debutantes and Sertraline." Unfortunately, I prefer that to the real thing1 point

I heard "Im grown up and medicated, im high on cellular waves" as "Im grown up and medicated on my own cellular waves" Theres probably more but i dont remember any1 point

*shakes off dust* ah, haven't been here in a bit. Misery is the coolest fucking song ever, but it took me a while to warm up to it. I'm very curious to see where their sound goes next. Something along the lines of Nimrod/Warning seems most logical, because they may want to experiment a bit more after spewing out more pop-rock in 3 albums than the rest of their catalog combined. I wouldn't complain about more pop-punk, but the production would have to be better. I want to hear distorted guitars and Billie's signature tone if they're going to do pop-punk.1 point

*deep breath* I'm gonna admit it. Misery is my favorite Green Day song. Ever.1 point
