He actually rarely does solos, bridges yes, solos no. However, believe it or not, I actually do agree with you. Billie doesn't play anything super difficult, but he usually takes simple chord progressions and adds in some bridges, hammer ons, etc. And he plays very, very tight. So basically, what he plays, he plays very, very well.
Usually, GD songs have a very fast BPM, so that may be difficult if strumming is giving you a problem. Alot of GD songs, more the earlier ones, are mostly down strokes, so that makes it easier. Brain Stew is probably their easiest song to play. I play it at 75, so that is pretty slow. Also, maybe a song with more picking than strumming. Good Riddance or Brutal Love are good ones to try. Stay away from something like Minority. It has picking and fast strumming and odd strum patterns. I think it is one of their more difficult songs to play.
Yep. Because of this I also believe that Green Day songs are the best for beginners on electric guitar. As you said, Billie's playing is based in simplicity but he adds in some other things like hammer-ons which makes his songs easy to play but very educational for beginners.
My local radio actually started playing Let Yourself Go and people really liked that one. That would have been a good lead single.
In my opinion Oh Love is very laid back and i love it as a closer for the album but not much for the single. But just my opinion. Oh and don't get me started on that video. Absolute hatred for it haha.
I loved hearing Oh Love on the radio when it came out! It got me into Green Day again and I bought Uno! I wasn't really following them that closely, but Oh Love was really catchy and different and caught my ear. It's fun to sing along with.
They forgot Dimebag Darrel I think Billie as a guitarist is pretty much underrated and even being a Punk/Alternative guitarist he makes really good solos and bridges in GD songs.
Let Yourself Go might have been a good single, though. My local station played it too and it always caught everyone's attention. I guess it's a kind of song that gets overplayed but it has actually grown on me when I heard it on the radio from time to time. It's fun, catchy and punky. The simplistic production didn't bother me either. It stood out among other rock songs they played.
He obviously has dedicated his entire life to being Billie and it's scary but even though it's sad and on top of it I'm gay, I'm still highly attracted.
I've posted the numbers before, but Oh Love was doing, really, really well. I heard it on the radio constantly. It debuted at #1 on the US Rock singles charts and stayed there for about 3 weeks. It dipped to #2 the day after iHeart and was totally off the charts a week later. As much as I feel that Stay the Night would have made a fine single, I don't really buy the argument that they needed something upbeat to bring people around. Oh Love was doing, very, very well until after iHeart. That put a bad taste in alot of peoples minds and all promotion stopped.
I doubt that...was someone truly outraged? I don't think so. More people would have been interested if the airplay continued. Bad reputation? That video went viral, it got them into public eye more than anything else in years. Bad promo > no promo
