  3. So, I spent today's public holiday reading Cometbus: In China With Green Day. I expected it to be a longer article about the band written from perspective of a journalist who got closer to them thanks to being an old friend. I was pleasantly surprised that the zine is way better than that. Aaron is a talented writer; intelligent, witty, sometimes ironic. His personal experience of tour (or rather travelling), opinions and knowledge are what makes it really enjoyable. The zine provides valuable insight into the backstage. I knew his work only from Pinhead Gunpowder lyrics and expected him to be good, but he does seem to be a really cool person, even though our opinions sometimes differ. He writes from a "true punk's" point of view; a big part of the zine is him reconciling with Green Day's decisions and popularity. Personally, I never really understood why should their "selling out" be considered underground scene's business. If a band decides to leave underground and make money and pursue a successful mainstream career instead, it's a valid decision. It's ok to have an opinion about that, but it's not wrong, either. Just another way of playing in a band. It's as simple as that - no thing to spend 20 years debatig about. As to his criticism of Green Day: regarding shows, Aaron's opinions are similar to mine. He criticises the King For A Day medley, Billie's overzealousness when pumping up the crowd - I agree with these opinions. Aaron's also nostalgic about the old times when Green Day shows weren't only about Billie, he doesn't like his modern stage persona. I'm positive this opinion is shared by many, but I don't belong among them. His frontmanship is a part of the show and it's important for their presentation, having a face that outsiders recognise is precisely what a successful band needs. One thing I never really thought about myself was his approach to fans during concerts. Billie's kissing fans made Aaron uncomfortable. He claims that sex symbols should stay untouchable. I never saw this as an issue worth musing about, and don't think Aaron is right about it being inappropriate. If it's what Billie wants to do, I don't mind. Most fans probably don't see it as anything special as well. It's innocent unless you read into it too much. I think that the guys come of it as quite nice people. Minus the part about Billie's reaciton to criricism - he is described as defensive; mentions of Tre's apetite and his liking of strip bars and hints of past diagreements. All in all, it's a useful informative publication, an enjoyable read. It gives a positive impression about the band, and likely, it's the furthest we'll ever see behind the scenes.

  4. I love Misery. It's sounds so different but it's cool. The song I hate is 99 Revolutions. Billie said it's the best song he's ever written, I say hogwash. It's shit!

  5. Misery is so good. I wish they did more story songs like that. Not that I don't like how autobiographical Billie is, but it's nice to have something different every now and then. Money Money 2020 is okay in parts, but yeah, not a huge fan of it in general. FBHT were a much better side project.

  6. A lot of Kerplunk needs more recognition IMO. And when I say that, I'm talking about mostly the second half of the album.

  7. Until now I didn't realize how much I could relate to "No One Knows". No wonder it's always been one of my favorites.

  8. The general consensus is that the lyrics suck ass but that's it's one of the best things on the Trilogy musically, which I agree with. Not to overplug Dookiefied Guitars, but the one thing the song is really crying out for is distorted guitars; the album version sounds horribly weak with clean tone, but dirty it up a bit and it becomes the most powerful thing on the Trilogy. It also disguises the filters quite well.

  9. Bleachers on Green Day, Taylor Swift & Tom Waits You were a huge Green Day fan. Have you ever met Billie Joe Armstrong? Never met him. I think Dookie was such a moment for me growing up. I remember that time period 93-94 and that album and just that whole time of music was when I shifted from loving music to wanting to be in music. When the Nineties happened with Green Day, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Spacehog, Weezer, I was like "Oh this is my generation". That's when I felt a part of it and when I wanted to exist in music rather than just listen as a fan. It was a very interesting shift. http://www.gigwise.com/features/100359/bleachers-interview-2015-on-taylor-swift-and-tom-waits

  12. I like the verses to Kill the DJ but not the chorus. One of the better trilogy songs, though this is coming from a guy who likes over half the trilogy songs decent enough

  13. Maybe this is why none of the other pix from Getty with BJA and his family were full-length views.

  14. Well, it could be that blond Billie is hot. Remember, blond Billie makes everything better.

  15. I hate when photos make a compelling argument for blond Billie Joe being hot. Ugh. I'll blame it on the sexy pants.

  17. I agree with Jimmy. I didn't really like it at first but the more I listened to it the more I liked it. It has a cool beat. The lyrics are not stellar but it is a fun listen.

  23. I thought the line "Your screams and cries are never going to work" was actually "Like a bird going to work..." and I imagine a pigeon with a Fedora going to take a dump on Peter Griffin's car When you listen to 409, I swear I hear it that way every time

  25. Dirty Rotten Bastards is the best song off of Tre from a musical standpoint. I don't care that the lyrics suck complete ass, because let's be real, it's not the kind of song for which lyrics matter. Driving on the freeway with that middle section pumping at full volume makes you feel like a complete badass. Now, I will say I'd prefer heavier guitars, but that's why there's this version: Which, IIRC, Todd has a lossless version of.

  27. yeah, I think it's all a matter of lighting In some pictures he looks really young for 43, but in this one you can really see that he's not that fresh anymore but considering his past (or is it) full of drugs and alcohol and cigarettes, he's aged rather well
