  1. The lyrics "remember to learn to forget" get me every time I listen to Before the Lobotmy because they way I see it there are two possible interpretations: 1) Remember something in order to learn to forget it or, my personal favorite 2) "Remember you have to learn to forget" which in my head sounds as if it were written on a sticky note, like "hey, remember you have to try and learn to forget, today!". I especially love this interpretation because it’s telling you to let go of the past, but at the same time it acknowledges the fact that it’s not easy to move on, and treats the process of forgetting as if it were an exercise to be done daily, implying that it’s ok if you don’t succeed on your first try, because you’ll get better at it as time goes by. I just hope the second one is not just a linguistic misinterpretation (since English in not my first language) and what I said actually makes sense

  2. The album is truly over looked - there are some amazing lyrics. It's on repeat in my car at the moment.

  5. it's sometimes difficult to see them as a cohesive concept, not as one liners, but since I bothered to look into then more deeply they grew on me. I'm a huge 21cb fan and the lyrics are the reason why.

  6. I think the second interpretation makes sense in the context, too. Whiskey shots and cheap cigarettes is a way to forget when learning to forget fails. that's how I always understood the line.

  7. Sadly, this is where we disagree. Typically I'm not a fan, but there are always exceptions... like Jack Skellington Billie Joe!

  13. Bowling For Soup (A Band i dont listen too often but like a few songs) did this thing where they did a Greatest Hits album but rerecorded every song on it and i think its a cool idea and it makes me wish green Day would do something similar. Id love to see some 1039/Kerplunk stuff rerecorded with better vocals and production, though the original's lack fo production makes it charming, tbh.

  16. Not news as it's just quoting from the Rolling Stone article but I'm posting it because maybe you need a laugh...and this will sure give you one. Prepare for the worst writing you will ever read in your life...how this individual got their job is an unbelievable mystery!! "Billie Joe Armstrong Talks About Green Day New Album; Release Date Expected Next Year?" http://www.kpopstarz.com/articles/198295/20150504/green-day-new-album.htm My favourite part is where it says he was interviewed by Billboard and links you to Rolling Stone

  17. Yes, it is definitely his best. I'd live with less filters, though. Sometimes he sounds a bit chipmunky. I like it still

  18. I'm a huge fan of the vocals as well. I think it is Billie's best, other than Foreverly.

  21. I always took the two lines together - "remember to learn to forget whiskey shots and cheap cigarettes", i.e. remember to figure out how to leave behind the whiskey and cigarettes.

  22. They kind of already dropped the ball on the two most important anniversaries of their career though — 10 years of American Idiot and 20 years of Dookie, in the same year. They touched on Dookie a little bit, but not enough to really even consider it a commemoration. If they didn't hype up thos0e anniversary, I don't really foresee them ever doing any sort of anniversary-honoring things anytime soon. I'm not discounting the idea of a re-recorded album though. I'd love for it to happen, but I just don't think it's realistic thing the band would do at this point in their careers. UGH, I love Jack Skellington Billie Joe. My ovaries hurt... <3

  24. Chopin too: *shrugs* If Williams had gone on about what an original genius he was to invent the melodies that'd be one thing, but I don't think he's ever denied the huge influence other pieces had on the Star Wars score. And I don't think you could say that, say, "Blowin' in the Wind" isn't a work of art even though its melody is the exact same as "No More Auction Block". Williams didn't literally copy the exact same melody, he added his own touch. Can you seamlessly transition between the Throne Room scene and The New World? Well, up to a point, but they're still distinct pieces: The Kings Row thing is much closer, I'll admit, but I don't think you can take that and say Williams' entire career is worthless.

  25. Oh yes. (Actually had this conversation in the Movie Club, I think.) I don't care that his melodies for Star Wars largely drew from classical pieces, because it's what suited the films, and Williams himself is an extremely talented man. If all he did was steal from other composers I'd be irritated with him, I'm sure, but he writes more original stuff very well too. So do I give a fuck that the Imperial March was stolen from Chopin or the main title fanfare was taken from Holt? Not really, since they're still excellent pieces and are very effective.

  26. Sure I recognize that it's a ripoff, I just don't much care. When it comes to music, steal from the best, if you're good at it.

  27. Dirty Rotten Bastards is the best song off of Tre from a musical standpoint. I don't care that the lyrics suck complete ass, because let's be real, it's not the kind of song for which lyrics matter. Driving on the freeway with that middle section pumping at full volume makes you feel like a complete badass. Now, I will say I'd prefer heavier guitars, but that's why there's this version: Which, IIRC, Todd has a lossless version of.
