  1. Oh wow I don't think I've really seen its appeal pinned down before but I think this nails it, you're right about how it stands out. I suppose it just doesn't stand out in a way that's particularly appealing to me. No! It's a delightful tongue in cheek interval where you can take a break and relax in the middle of all the energetic songs . And with its pronounced laid back surfy sound it cements the very subtle retro/surfy sound that runs through the album. Probably not one I'd listen to on its own very often but it adds a lot to the album imo.

  3. I think we may have stumbled onto something big here: Billie is actually the Horseman Of Pestilence. Now to figure out which Mike, Tre and Jason are...

  4. I've always considered Platypus (I Hate You) an intentionally over the top, exagerrated hate song - a hyperbole. But I changed my opinion today. Writing such lyrics just don't seem right anymore, the song doesn't sound much like a joke, not so spiteful, but rather bitter. This might be only my impression, though - haven't listened to it for ages.

  6. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame posters: 2015 inductees as you've never seen them Green Day Billie Joe Armstrong and his bandmates - bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool - have done something amazing. In their very first year of eligibility, the punksters from California are being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/index.ssf/2015/04/2015_rock_hall_inductee_poster.html#2

  8. Some day, just for you, I really hope to hear Billie sing the exact words F(woo) Time.

  10. I love Misery. Great ballad. Funny tune. Weird lyrics. Whenever I listen to it I can picture a man from long ago in an old suit and hat at a market place or fair with a stick pointing at drawings and turn over the pages, singing the ballad.

  11. I never used to understand it either. I think part of it is how different it is from the rest of Dookie. Most of Dookie sounds like its album cover, if that makes sense--bright, dry, kinda washed-out, like a really hot summer day. And the music videos for the other singles tend to reflect that, they've been chemically altered to wash the frame out and there's a very harsh brightness to them. Whereas WICA sounds like the accompaniment to wandering down a city street at night, which, again, its video reflects. It's such a different mood from the rest of the album, which really makes it stand out as memorable. There's also the fact that it's easily the most recognizable guitar riff on Dookie. Basket Case has the most recognizable melody overall and Longview has the most iconic bassline, but in terms of guitar WICA is the standout.

  12. I will never understand why I burst into tears when they played She in Pittsburgh. I don't even particularly like the studio version of the song, but live it was just... unreal.

  13. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame 2015 class: Star power and variety GREEN DAY BIO The rare band that found a second act to its career that was even bigger than its first. Singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tre Cool burst into the mainstream with their landmark punk-pop album "Dookie" in 1994 and a string of now standards, including "When I Come Around" and "Welcome to Paradise." Then, in 2004, enraged by President George W. Bush's administration, the band unleashed "American Idiot," which raised its profile without losing any punk fire, winning them Grammys and mounting a successful Broadway rock opera of the same name. BIGGEST HIT "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" (No. 2, 2004) WILL BE INDUCTED BY Fall Out Boy http://www.newsday.com/entertainment/music/2015-rock-and-roll-hall-of-fame-class-star-power-and-variety-1.10207114
