  1. I have to wonder if the reason Mike never did the eyeliner was a.) because he hated the idea or b.) because he'd look fucking terrifying with eyeliner.

  2. Actually, fuck what I said. I wear an RHCP shirt with pride all the time. And I'd wear a Foo Fighters shirt if I had one.

  3. I don't understand why you said that the clothing style of Green Day is emo when emo is basically a rip off of punk and goth style. The eyeliner, the ties, the studded belts, the haircuts were there before emo. The style of the band during the era of American Idiot was great.

  4. I don't give a shit about other people categorising me, I'll wear whatever I like - I've got tour shirts from 21CB and Trilogy (O2 Arena and Brixton), a 39/Smooth shirt and two Libertines shirts, so them, black jeans and a biker jacket are what I wear pretty much all the time.

  5. "The first time I ever wore eyeliner was 1990. I thought I looked cool, like Mike Ness from Social Distortion" - Billie, haha.

  6. Maybe I have a different idea of what "emo" is, but I've never considered Green Day emo, even during the AI era.

  8. The whole emo, pop-punk clothing style does not suit Green Day. Band shirts are always off-limits for me too

  9. Mike Ness was the first emo back in 80's and 90's. Yes Social Distortion were emo because true punks don't wear eye liner. lol

  10. 50 Of The Most Eye-Poppingly Filthy Lyrics Ever I want you to slap me and call me naughty/Put a beltsander against my skin/I want to feel pain all over my body/Can't wait to be punished for my sins” - Dominated Love Slave – Green Day This is what happens when you let a punk rock drummer sing a song. Tre Cool’s country ditty is an absolute filth-fest. http://www.nme.com/photos/nsfw-50-of-the-most-eye-poppingly-filthy-lyrics-ever/369707#/photo/1

  11. The only people who throw Green Day in to that "emoshit" style are people who paid little attention to anything the band actually did in 04.

  12. As far as the comments from Mr. Robinson, I guess I can relate to it to a certain extent. 21CB can be a bit "much" at times, and it seems a bit more forced compared to AI, but it's still magnificent, at least musically. Where they had something to say with AI, it seems like they really wanted to have something to say with 21CB. So I get that part. The lyrics on AI are not what I would call cringey, but they are a bit over the top at times. I believe someone on the forum once used the phrase "word-salad", a term that I think fits perfectly. However, if we are to criticize lyrics for being cringe-worthy, I would dare to suggest that we start with the trilogy. And speaking of the trilogy, I find it hard to see it being superior to anything, but that's just my own personal opinion. Now, the point about their outfits/image from AI, THAT I can relate to. Most of the time they toned it down to an acceptable level, but there were moments where it just seemed like they got stuck to deep in that whole black-and-red/guyliner/emoshit style that became so massive around that time. And it just doesn't feel right to throw Green Day in that company. And I get that they embraced different styles prior to AI, but it seemed so generic and extreme with AI. It just seemed so obvious that someone in marketing had decided to really re-invent them, and it just was a tad much. Still, I think a lot of their theatrical aspects of the time were really cool. And lastly, I get that this is the thread for unpopular opinions, so this is in no way meant as a direct critique of original poster, just my so called two cents.
