I love the lyrics on that song. I still can't believe he wrote that song at such a young age. What a preview of things to come.3 points

I've got all my music on shuffle and 16 just came on. I forgot how good this song is.3 points

I used to consider Ashley one of the worst but I appreciate it more now, it's a really catchy, bouncy tune and the lyrics "You used to dangle my heart with your puppet strings/You dangled your desires right in front of my face/You led me to the well but wouldn't let me drink/Swallowing my pride I never even got the taste" are just great. The Demolicious version is especially good, it's dirty.2 points

And a live version of Homecoming just came on and I involuntarily started clapping after the intro. Seriously, I didn't even think about it, it just happened. That song is absolutely phenomenal.2 points

I don't know if it takes serious guts to admit to liking a Green Day song on a Green Day forum but if it does I don't believe it should I assumed it's another one about Amanda (the girlfriend he was with while writing Dookie who went to Ecuador when they split up that tons of their songs are about, She, Good Riddance, Whatsername etc) but he'd just already used the name on another song . I guess it could've been inspired by any experience of a relationship like that though so not necessarily her/all her.2 points

I'm proud to say the original version of Good Riddance (b-side to Brain Stew/Jaded) is far superior to the Nimrod version. The latter sounds cheesy and too upbeat for what it's trying to say (didn't Billie write it about a break-up or someshit?). It was a wise decision to not end the album with that track; Prosthetic Head, one of their best songs to this day, gets the job done perfectly.2 points

If Jaded in Chicago is any indication, I think Billie had the better one2 points

It takes some serious guts to admit that. I respect you for your courage in standing up for Nightlife, but at the same time Nightlife is awful.2 points

Half of the songs is actually better on Demolicious.1 point

Ashley is another example of where the dark/raw/heavy sound completely transforms a song. It's so much better on Demolicious. As is Baby Eyes.1 point

I had read one article, just one that stated it was Billie that forced them to talk. The article said he made them sit down every day and just talk, not about music, just talk. I question the validity of it in general. It sounded like total BS when I read it.1 point

Yes! I know the guys have a really great 'normal' set-list they do, but I would love to see big changes to it in future shows. All the big hits, sure. But it's time to change it up. I would even be happy if it stayed basically the same, but there were two to three spots where they play crazy random songs that have never/almost never been played live. And of course Dos and Tre are in major need of live debuts...1 point

Funny, by your metric, he should go around with no pants, it would be so much easier! I'm sure he has had his, but occasionally he does zip it up! The song itself is on my list of ones that should not have been recorded.1 point

I completely forgot how much I enjoy Green Day's cover of Husker Dü's "Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely" (found as a b-side to the Warning single). It sounds like a live take (and considering there is a video of them performing it, it could be one), and yet the instruments and vocals are perfectly mixed. Green Day's next album, whenever it may be, should experiment with that lo-fi live sound and Nimrod/Warning songwriting. I'd be a very happy boy. Sorry, wrong thread. Meant to put this in random Green Day thoughts. I don't know if there's a way I can remove the post, or if I'd have to get it moved or something.1 point

This thread gives me such a headache Weighing in on Nightlife - I can enjoy it in small doses. The lyrics, combined with the overall melody/vocals, are pretty cool in that they accurately describe (what I can only assume to be) the sketchy shit that Beej got himself into in 2008 - 2012. Same with Makeout Party! I can't believe you guys prefer Wild One over Makeout Party I like both in their own ways, but still. What do you guys make of Ashley? I keep trying to figure out where she fits into the whole "people BJ has fucked in the last 27 years" timeline. It was also one of my first favorites from the trilogy.1 point

I dont think any of the songs on Warning could be described as Folk Punk, really. They took the sound of Nimrod and focused on making a more cohesive album rather than trying all kinds of things. The only thing folky about it is the acoustic guitar. Church on Sunday, Castaway, Fashion Victim, Waiting, Blood Sex and Booze, Deadbeat Holiday and Jackass could have pretty much been on any other Green Day album.1 point

There are songs in the world that are just nonsense (eg I Am The Walrus) but these songs aren't, their meanings are quite clear and so are most of the individual lyrics. There might be the occasional lyric that defies explanation or is deliberately nonsense but otherwise they're just normal songs, just because their meanings aren't totally serious and noble it doesn't mean it isn't worth explaining them. Are you seriously saying you have no idea what any of the songs you mentioned are about or what any of the lines in them mean? Or that the lines I gave an explanation for when asked, "She gave up on Jesus for living on Venus" and "I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, I jumped on the grenade", aren't able to be understood? Like, how is explaining what the well known phrase "drinking the Kool-Aid" means convoluted? Like almost all of Green Day's lyrics they're pretty simple as far as I can see. Expressing that you don't like a song's lyrics or find them nonsensical is one thing but I find it a bit silly for people to be telling others they shouldn't discuss the lyrics of a Green Day song that they're interested in on a Green Day fan forum made for discussing Green Day's music . For people who like the song it's enjoyable and there's no harm in it whether you think the song is worthy of it or not. Not really, just enjoy lots of Green Day songs How dare you1 point

This Week in Billboard Chart History: Jan. 7, 1995 Twenty years ago today, Green Day crowns the Alternative Songs chart for a third time with "When I Come Around." The trio has added six more No. 1s since. http://www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6429408/this-week-in-billboard-chart-history-in-1991-madonnas-justify-my1 point

Is there a song that Boulevard Of Broken Dreams hasn't been mixed with yet? This is good though, I'll have to show it to my nephew since he loves the Frozen song.1 point

I hope that he has something to say about it, when he writes about such raw powerful things like addiction he hits the nail on the head. See: Hitchin A Ride1 point

We can always use some more Mike songs. Having a Dirnt-penned song on an album was nice way to change things up a bit.1 point

How does the mention of red lights make no sense? They represent stopping and going and sex/danger, a lot of the songs are about deciding whether to "stop or go", whether to give into the temptation of sex/drugs/partying and other potentially dangerous things. Can't really see what there is to criticize there, just as there's nothing to criticize about the references to fire in 21st CB for example. Just part of the theme of the album. Pretty sure Billie hasn't described Uno Dos and Tre as concept albums either, just said there's a loose theme. Which there is.1 point

Warning is a better social/political album than 21st Century Breakdown.1 point

I am in the minority and have always liked the trilogy. All I can say is that before iheart in Australia I heard everyday a uno song on the radio. At that stage it was rumoured that GD would tour in March of 2013. Iheart happened & the rest is history. So I guess what I am saying my unpopular opinion is that if Iheart did not happen & with proper promotion everything would have turned out fine. In the end I saw a festival instead of an arena tour - they pulled it off IMO.1 point

Brutal love is a great song but it would be better if it was shorter. After the 3rd minute I usually change it. See You Tonight wins all <3 also, Walk Away is totally underrated. I don't think there's a better song to sing along to.1 point
