There are songs in the world that are just nonsense (eg I Am The Walrus) but these songs aren't, their meanings are quite clear and so are most of the individual lyrics. There might be the occasional lyric that defies explanation or is deliberately nonsense but otherwise they're just normal songs, just because their meanings aren't totally serious and noble it doesn't mean it isn't worth explaining them. Are you seriously saying you have no idea what any of the songs you mentioned are about or what any of the lines in them mean? Or that the lines I gave an explanation for when asked, "She gave up on Jesus for living on Venus" and "I'm drinking the Kool-Aid, I jumped on the grenade", aren't able to be understood? Like, how is explaining what the well known phrase "drinking the Kool-Aid" means convoluted? Like almost all of Green Day's lyrics they're pretty simple as far as I can see. Expressing that you don't like a song's lyrics or find them nonsensical is one thing but I find it a bit silly for people to be telling others they shouldn't discuss the lyrics of a Green Day song that they're interested in on a Green Day fan forum made for discussing Green Day's music . For people who like the song it's enjoyable and there's no harm in it whether you think the song is worthy of it or not. Not really, just enjoy lots of Green Day songs How dare you5 points

I dont think any of the songs on Warning could be described as Folk Punk, really. They took the sound of Nimrod and focused on making a more cohesive album rather than trying all kinds of things. The only thing folky about it is the acoustic guitar. Church on Sunday, Castaway, Fashion Victim, Waiting, Blood Sex and Booze, Deadbeat Holiday and Jackass could have pretty much been on any other Green Day album.2 points

Nimrod's consistency is its inconsistency. Now, seriously, it feels more inconsistent and stylistically erratic than it is because most of the more experimental (for Green Day) songs are placed near the end; whereas the first half is more homogeneous.2 points

I think it's great to analyze lyrics, but there is a difference to me between analyzing what Holiday means and analyzing what Wild One means. There is a line, one that can be tough to draw sometimes, but Wild One is a song that isn't close, because it just makes no sense, there isn't a consistency to what he's saying. Contrast that with explaining the meaning of Brutal Love. The meaning is not obvious, but if you can figure out that he (in my estimation) is talking about his relationship with fans and vice versa, pretty much every word in the song makes sense. That is not what happens with Wild One. You could say well he's talking about this and this here, but then a completely different explanation is required for something else. Songs like Wild One, The Forgotten, and Nuclear Family have unclear meanings and are near impossible to solve with one decent explanation. Songs like Troublemaker, Makeout Party, etc are just ridiculous so defining a meaning for it is useless because they're so outlandish there is very little chance that Billie meant anything by them, and if he did there was plenty of cocaine involved. Obviously not every song has one meaning for everyone, but songs that can't be at least mostly explained by at least one or a few different meanings are just rubbish lyrics. The more convoluded the lyrics, the more convoluded the explanantion has to be.2 points

Half of the stuff on "Warning" is really underrated. Just because they switched from pop punk/punk rock/whatever to folk punk, it doesn't mean that has to be bad folk punk.1 point

warning has some really great songs (mostly macy's day parade) but overall it's not one of my favorites. that being said, i don't at all think it's a bad album, and was obviously a daring step for the band to take, which i respect. nimrod as a whole feels like a good album, but not many of the songs really stand out to me. although i've always had a strange fondness for prosthetic head. i've always quite enjoyed it, so i don't really understand either. i realize it's repetitive and disjointed or whatever, but it still feel like it has a great energy and it's something i can enjoy listening to.1 point

Why would you think his vocals are good on AI simply because of the mixing? Any studio album is going to be mixed. If anything, they used more effects on 21 SB. I think he sounds better because he simply received vocal training and started to give a shit about the technical side of his vocals. He is not the best technical vocalist around, not be a long shot. But he is definitely much better than you give him credit for.1 point

Nimrod is excellent, and I've never really seen why people say it lacks consistency.1 point

I just got Insomniac vinyl in the mail yesterday. It's my 2nd favorite album besides American Idiot. Armatage Shanks, Panic Song, Westbound Sign, Stuck With Me, Brain Stew, just the whole album is genious in my opinion. Panic song is my personal favorite because the energy that builds up and the intense lyics.1 point

Dos is one of my favourite Green Day albums so in my case yes I suppose it probably isn't technically great or anything, sounds pretty simple, but it packs some emotion and sounds cool and satisfying. I think the best Green Day guitar solo ever is in The One I Want though, definitely the most emotionally affecting for me. Also it's an extremely underrated song and the best on 1,039/SOSH. Is this an unpopular opinion?1 point

This is definitely one of my favourites, even though they all are constantly rotating in that position. Nowadays I don't listen to Green Day too often, and I find myself mostly returning to Dookie, Insomniac and Nimrod. Those three connect with me the most I think, which is a really tough thing to say, but Insomniac has this raw energy that they've never been able to recreate. Also 3,000 posts! Only took me five fucking years!1 point

Wild One is trippy fabulousness, probably my favourite Dos song.1 point

I wonder why Billie Joe's personnality changed so much between Warning and American Idiot, he went from a bad-tempered guy to a quite nice person. I mean before AI in almost every interviews he seems bored, sarcastic and pissed off like he wants to kill everybody in the room but then he is way more compliant and actually looks like enjoying being there1 point

I like Wild One. Probably like it more than the two-thirds of the trilogy I never listen to.1 point

For those of us that have the physical copy of this- it's a lot easier to see what's underneath _SERNA The S is behind the A in Whatsername. It probably says part of "Whatsername", but was covered up and re-written just for the look of it.1 point

This morning I found a Wild One drawing that I made before Dos came out, I usually save all of my work, but this one I just ripped up and threw out.1 point

1. Vocals I agree on, but the wall of sound guitar is part of what makes the album, really—the eight guitars in RHS are hugely responsible for its success—and the bass and drums were also buried on AI, so it's not a new thing. 2. I'd have to know what lyrics you consider too "tryhard", but compared to what we got later even KYE is a step up. 3. I firmly believe the length is needed. 21CB is an ambitious, epic, sprawling album. Condensing it to ten or twelve songs just wouldn't have worked. It needs space to breathe, and the tracks that are perceived as filler, like it or not, are essential to its construction.1 point
