  1. Are you sure you aren't thinking of Words I Might Have Ate from Radio Daze?

  2. I should say my opinion of Tre (the album, not the person) has improved over these last two months. To be honest/blunt I still think The Forgotten is a wasted potential (read: shitty), but I'm warming up to most of the other songs. 8th Avenue Serenade in particular. Though I still prefer the demo version of 99 Revolutions. That was punchy; the final version on the other hand is a tad too 'tidy'. If there were more people like you the world would be at peace. I mean, I like Take Back. But then again, I also like Rest (though most everyone seems to loathe that), so I'm probably against the grain here.

  4. Look what's up for sale again http://www.ebay.com/itm/Mega-Rare-Look-For-Love-Billie-Joe-Armstrong-Vinyl-Record-45-Green-Day-Cd-1977-/181613159090?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a48fce2b2 I wonder how many of these were made, because they seem to pop up every year or so.

  5. It's not really screamy though, more an angry growl. I like it, he did it in his own style so instead of sounding scary/menacing he sounds like his usual snotty self just extra wound up. If he'd tried to sound like he was in a death metal band or something it would've been silly but the way he did it fits him and the song.

  6. http://youtu.be/K7mIzSrNTRg?list=LLjZny_fTVahMfdE6IH3mLPA So last night I was watching videos from Green Day's show in England from 1993. I actually started tearing up at one point. It's crazy to watch them at a time they were so young and had no idea what was in store for them in their future. Now, they are inducted in the fucking Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. I just love these guys so fucking much and i'm so proud of them.

  7. No One Knows, Private Ale and Words I Might Have Ate are my top 3. That album is full of so many greats that it was difficult to settle on them.

  9. Only silly billys dislike Rest. I'll listen out for that next time I listen to Nimrod. I'm just a huge AI fan boy. I like the drumming in Homecoming and Give Me Novacaine in particular, and even though it's not technical stuff, the drums just sound so punchy and cool. Great mixing/production.

  19. For me, it goes beyond the music, length and lyrics. It's more of the entire concept — the introduction to the title character, the themes and overall feel of the album. To me, American Idiot (the song) is just a prologue, but JOS is the true beginning of the album. The punchiness of those first two lines makes it nearly impossible to not listen to the rest of the song. Beyond that, it was unlike anything the band had ever done to that point, and was definitely a risky move. So in the context of their careers, it's also epic in that regard. But once everything is tied together at the end of the album, with Letterbomb (the lines "You're not the Jesus of Suburbia, etc.") and Homecoming (the line "We're coming home, again" contrasting with the line "You're leaving home"), it's impossible for me not to consider JOS the coolest fucking thing ever. Like I said, it doesn't mean it's the song I listen to most, but I don't understand how anyone can dislike it.

  26. Since the trilogy has come back around again, I'll say this: The trilogy failed to accomplish anything significant for Green Day's catalog. It aimed to be a stripped down anti-thesis of the AI/21CB era, but all it gave us was a miserably produced, mid-life crisis induced, bloated, mess. If they aimed to return to their pre-AI sensibilities, then one would expect their to be a few obvious characterstics that defined their pre-AI catalog: Mike-Billie harmonies Emphasis on rhythm (basslines, drums) Witty, introspective lyrics those are a few indisputable characteristics of their pre-AI work. The trilogy didn't hit on any of those things. The lyrics read like a child at times and a horny, sexually repressed 50 year old at others. The vocal filter took away Billie's snarl, the harmonies were non-existent, and Tre and Mike might as well have stayed home. I've been saying a version of this since it came out, but I figured I'd reiterate my opinion on it, for new trilogy sympathizers

I like your BMW I like your BM-excellent tits With a tattoo of a pig sniffing glue" "Gonna ride the world like a merry-go-round Like a Ferris wheel that's breaking down Drinking angel's piss, gonna crash and burn I just want some action so gimme my turn" "Oh, anyhow, anywhere Kiss me there, oh kiss me there Oh, scream and shout, truth or dare Kiss me there, oh kiss me there" etc, etc.

  38. Not sure if this would be the right place to mention this (my apologies if it isn't), but I feel like some of the trilogy's songs could pull of being on an album by The Network (yes, I believe The Network was a Green Day side-project) due to their sound and lyrical content. Songs like "Kill the DJ," "Troublemaker," "Wild One," and some others, produced and delivered like Money Money 2020, would be an interesting thing to hear...
