I've always liked how the cover of American Idiot says "Green Day presents American Idiot." It sounds so cool and makes it seem so much more epic.3 points

I think it's just about being a badass. A bit like St Jimmy. Fantasizing about being this cool character.2 points

Yeah, as we've discussed his singing doesn't really sound very English but there are some slightly English sounding elements in parts of his singing sometimes. I think it's more the influence of listening to English/London punk bands and just the fact that punk style singing in general is influenced by those bands than it being a common lazy way of pronouncing words in any accent, but it's probably a bit of both.2 points

I love the instrumentation in Wow! That's Loud so much, but I haver no idea wtf he's talking about lol2 points

Plus it has the energetic vibe of their live performance since it sort of is live. Honestly, I'd love an album of those kind of quality recordings.2 points

No One Knows is Mike's best ever bass work and arguably the best "slow" song they've ever done. Discuss.2 points

Note my facepalm at the end. It's important.2 points

Strangeland makes plenty if sense to me. The opening is the narrator analyzing the world around them, and how it captivates them. Now that they are grown up, they are seeing the world for the first time, and it's so much different than it was when they were a kid. Hence the name "Strangeland"1 point

So do I, but then again I listen to the album versions and think they are cool in their own way. Actually I'm happy to have both the originals and the demos.1 point

Yeah I agree there's not much difference, was expecting there to be more. I think it's the sort of generally English thing, helped by the vocals in that song being some of the most English sounding vocals he's done.1 point

yeah mine's way better tom has a south yorkshire accent, mine's more north yorkshire mixed with teesside. we sound a little less inbred, in my humble opinion. to be on topic, i'd never say billie sang with a northern accent before (hermione's right in that he tries to be all cockney) but tom's band's vocalist just didn't sound different. i wonder if it's like confirmation bias, or if billie just sounds sort of generally english.1 point

Yet I still have to admit that your voice is glorious!1 point

Yer reight leet, ye know. At first you complain how you sound like a monghead and nobody understands you and then when someone tells you that you are being understood you get angry like your whole personality depended upon the amount of confusion your speech causes1 point

There was a bunch of Green Day references on the Australian radio station Triple J today. They seem to of been doing something about 1994, and Dookie was constantly being mentioned. They then had Chris Cheney of The Living End on to make an announcement of a tour and album, before having a discussion about The Living Ends past with Green Day, as well as Dookie and its impact, plus getting to see GD perform it in full at Reading/Leeds.1 point

Nah, we gotta meet someday somewhere just because I wanna hear you speak live But maybe mine is an unpopular opinion? In all honesty though people rarely dig their own accents anyway (at least I don't, no matter what language.)1 point

Funny, to me Billie's accent is very different from the northern accent(s). But then again, what do I know. Tom's accent is my current favourite in the whole world though. absolutely, the solo leading up to the key change, the saxophone solo when it's played live, it's fantastic. Can't wait to release my cover of it with hammie and Harry from GDC1 point
-
Oh and the key change towards the end is the best part of the song.1 point

couldnt agree more, kerplunk (80 for example) is full of raw emotion and energy, and I guess the lyrics are so relatable on 1039 and kerplunk for me being in my mid teens. Restless heart syndrome and rusty James are two newer songs that also have great vocals. Who else here think the static age is one of green days most underrated songs?1 point
-
I find it dearly difficult to give his best vocal performances in the studio, songs like 80 are great though, but that's just one that's comes to mind, give me more time and I'm sure I'll find better.1 point

Laying in my bed at home just wtached Bullet in a Bible for the 50th and thinking about how it just gets better and better every time. *emotional*?1 point

I always wished they recorded that song is a more live setting like they did the BBC One Radio recordings. I pick those over the originals every day.1 point

i wouldnt go as far to say its mikes best bass work, however it's damn good. A stand out song with incredible bass work on it is something like Stuart and the avenue, that being said they're a lot more songs that have great bass on them. Neither would I say no one knows is there best "slow" song.1 point

I've just been reminded of the time my band did Welcome To Paradise. Green Day songs in a northern accent are fucking classic. If anyone's interested I might share it here, even if it was a really shit performance.1 point

Sometimes I just think about how powerful and meaningful GD's music is. Their pieces make me feel like no other band or song in the world. They inspire me. And I don't care what anybody else says, they deserve to be as successful as they are today. I am so happy my dad exposed me to their music, because who knows where I would be today without them.1 point

Probably because it's so amusing and awesome! Many things to love about it but my favourite thing is how scared Tre looks (power walking and only just resisting the urge to run and duck), while Billie is fearless, and Mike doesn't actually appear to do anything dangerous1 point

Anyone know where this is from? Recent?? It looks like the face of a man about to give a press conferencing announcing the end of Green Day1 point
