Green day are on the 'album pathway' opened in the new Barrowlands Park in Glasgow. It was opened as part of the commonwealth games which are in Glasgow this year! "The album pathway lists the names and dates of every band that has played at the Barrowlands since 1983, more than 2000 appearances." They're just beside the second 16 in the blue. I thought this was pretty cool, if I'm ever in Glasgow I'll take a proper picture this isn't mine lol. More info here4 points

Yeah, I'm like you. If I say that I don't like a Green Day song, I still like it, just far below any other Green Day song3 points

They should do it in the style of Take Back.3 points

"I bought this fucking delicious cake, the size of the fucking table, and you fuckers aren't even gonna eat it?!?! Fuck you man!"2 points

I had one last night that started off with me stealing candy from a party. Turns out it was some kind of afterparty/birthday party for Billie Joe, who was going around asking people if they wanted cake. When he found me, he insisted I go have some cake - a weird apple chocolate cake that took up an entire table. He forcibly gave me cake, sans plate, and then stated to throw pieces at people behind him climbing a rockwall, yelling about/asking why people wren't eating the fucking cake. Dude was all about the cake. Also, I lost the candy (which made me way sadder than it had any right to).2 points

See it just made me imagine the Chilis performing the Trilogy, and combined with Praxus viewing this thread right now I'm worried we have another parody album on our hands. Cheap champagne stain down in California Hope there's more in your pants than in Frusciante's sock, yeah!2 points

Anyone who can do Frank Sinatra, The Doors, Queen, Boyz II Men, Iron Maiden AND Slipknot in one sitting has gotta be cool.2 points

I wish this guy would do some Green Day, come to think of it.2 points

The next album will all be Look for Love in different styles of music. I believe there's even gonna be a death metal version and a rap/techno version featuring Usher and Lady Gaga.2 points

Yeah, that was just related to the whole "will they, won't they" from when they were on tour and every night went by without them playing it. Not a conversation I want to get involved with again1 point

at the very least, the opening of DRB live would be amazing. it's right up green day's alley, a bit call-and-response and very anthem-y. or sort of i dunno i just got back from the pub so i'm not exactly sober. or the bit that starts at about 2:00 would be really good live (i'm listening to it now) (except julianna homicide oh god)1 point

Oh come now, the middle section would be awesome and you know it.1 point

Nah, it'd be too intense for Billie to handle.1 point

The bit that really got me was how he went into the rap then suddenly dropped RHCP on us. Had me in stitches. Can you imagine that in Nightlife?1 point

I actually love the "California's burning to the ground " bit1 point

Exactly, the case of taking the form over everything else. "we have these bits, we dunno what to do with them, lets throw them together and it becomes a classic like JoS. No matter if they don't fit well together since its a goddamn multipart song and its cool" Personally, I think all the other parts are musically good or passable (lyrics are atrocious though), buy that Carried Away part has absolutely no appeal to me. It is simply too derivative and predictable. And yes, JOS may indeed be my favourite amongst compositions like that. It's amazing how one thinks- at least I do- JoS as a song and I don't even always realise it could aswell be called a medley of shorter songs. Like, I couldn't imagine myself listening only a one part of it separately from the others. JoS is an experience. Everytime. As a whole.1 point

I think where it really falls down is the transitions. The parts themselves are all fine, even the carried away verse is passable, but the song just goes along then suddenly it's off in another direction and it's just too jarring. One of the things that makes JOS work so well is how naturally it flows between contrasting sections.1 point

I like it because it's Mike's singing, the lyric itself is awesome and fits in really well with the rest of the song, and musically it's a nice little segue into the second verse without being too repetitive and bland.1 point

To me Dirty Rotten Bastards sounds like a copy, a sequel with not much inspiration. It feels like whilsf most of the earlier multi-part compositions (bar American Eulogy) were inspired, spirited efforts and the unconventional song structures never felt forced or the main appeal of theirs but DRB on the other hand is an example of what happens when the form matters more than pure genuine inspiration. I don't know, I just despise that song. But of course, it may be because of those words...1 point

I think Uno is the best of the trilogy, and Dos is the weakest, and is the same song over and over. Tre is great, but I don't know how to compare it to the other two1 point
-
I agree that Uno's ending is stronger, but I don't count DRB as weak (in the context of the album, anyway--on any other Green Day album...). Let's face it, the lyrics suck ass but it's incredibly fun to listen to.1 point

In other news, I'm still utterly baffled as to why liking Mike's part in Sex, Drugs and Violence is considered an unpopular opinion. Like, what's not to love about it? It's the only bit of the song worth listening to.1 point

I like the Trilogy! And I have no idea why people complain about it. When the secret shows were happening and we were hearing these songs for the 1st time everyone loved it and loved the songs, suddenly the albums come out and half the people change there minds and hate it all of a sudden, 1 year later everyone hates it. And you know why.... Everyone has a short attention span these days, shiny new things are all people seem to want, then when its not new any more everybody hates it and keeps shouting about what they want next. Enjoy the now a little more!1 point
