I just said that because people were discussing the song3 points

I know She's a Rebel is probably the most-hated song on American Idiot, but I like it and it fits the story. If you think about it, it's the only happy moment throughout the whole story. Jesus/St. Jimmy is happy for a brief time, while he and Whatshername first get together. In the the next song, he feels like dying, she is sick of crying - things start going bad. So I think, while it's not the greatest song in world, it serves the story well, and gives the characters at least a bit of hope in the midst of pain and heartbreak. On an interesting note, the song is also sort of about the statue of liberty.3 points

I'd go so far as to say that Sassafras Roots is the second best song on Dookie, behind When I Come Around. Yeah, I went there. Also, ever since I heard "Whoa, Christian's infertile" I can never listen to that song the same again.2 points

So I'm not the only one who feels like this thread gets treated more like an "everything ever to do with Green Day" thread?2 points

Well I think part of the whole image revamp for AI was Billie coming off as larger than life. It worked to perfection. I first heard of them b/c of AI. Billie with his odd nasal snarl and his all black with eyeliner get up immediately caught my eye. That image lasted through 21cb but now that he's out of rehab I'd say he has reverted back to the Warning days. That parallel between now and the Warning era truly does exist IMO. Not only with Billie's persona/image but also where they are musically and where they are in the eyes of the mainstream.2 points

Rolling Stone, March 13th 2014. Are these graphics your own work? Love them, though the Billie of Arabia (?) one should probably go to http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/69200-green-day-reinvented/ Nice to see such a talented person around.2 points

So she can start a potentially massive video thread but I can't start a damn lyrical analysis thread blasphemy2 points

That's what makes AI so special, even its weakest songs serve a purpose for the narrative. Not only does AI have fantastic individual songs it has a strong and coherent theme/story which makes it an even more fantastic album.2 points

Why is Panic Song expendable? It's unique amongst the Green Day back catalogue, features some of their best lyrics, and the release of tension when the verse finally comes in is explosive.1 point

Y u do dis? Much. "Sassafrass Roots" and "Pulling Teeth" could easily have been cut from Dookie, but apart from "Tightwad Hill" there isn't a single track on Insomniac that's expendable. And the production on Insomniac is better, too; it's less dry-sounding and Mike's bass is pure sex.1 point

Agreed. Nightlife is actually pretty good, but Christian's Inferno throws a spanner in the works of Breakdown. Not a fan at all.1 point
-
Again, I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I do think Insomniac is a better album than Dookie.1 point

See, this isn't an unpopular opinion, it'd fit better in Random Green Day Thoughts. Please stop thinking you have to post everything in this thread by default everyone! If you want to post something that isn't an opinion about Green Day that you suspect is particularly unpopular then find a different thread for it or make a new one. Aww well can't win em all . We do try to leave them open whenever possible though I promise, and if it turns out there was already a thread for it or whatever so it does end up getting closed there's no shame in it.1 point

Ever since I noticed that Billie doesn't pronounce the "T" in Castaway (he says "cassaway") I haven't been able to listen to it without noticing it.1 point
-
Kind of sucks if everything just gets posted in here instead of having new/different threads to talk about stuff though, I know it tends to happen but I do try to discourage it when possible. Just in general we like to encourage making new threads rather than just having giant ones that cover too many different things. It's really a good idea for a thread, you should go ahead and make it.1 point

I imagine that the people who don't like it have a thought process something like this. "I don't like Caaaaastawaaaaay, going at it alone, I don't like Caaaaastawaaaaay, now I'm on my own. I don't like...oh, wait."1 point

I can't fathom a world in which people don't like Castaway1 point

It's my favourite overall, I mean I guess I can see why it might not be to everyone's taste, but you're right in that it's vastly underrated. It just surprises me that Brain Stew seems to be the most popular song on their when it's one of the weaker tracks on the album. A song featuring a female rapper? Oh.1 point

Jesus God, don't do that. KILL IT! KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!!1 point

You got me backwards. I have high respect for 86. And for that matter, Insomniac as a whole.1 point

I saw the show for the first time in Cleveland tonight. It was incredible. There were a few things that were messed up (missed cues only twice and one person didn't come in to sing his line or as my mom called it "awkward silence") and that some of the lyrics were changed (probably to tell the story clearer). Other than that I was in the 4th row and it was awesome!! Watching Broadway Idiot the day before made the story a lot clearer.1 point
