Lyrics

Spoiler

Where can I find the city of shining light
In an ordinary world
How can I leave a buried treasure behind
In an ordinary world

The days into years roll by
It’s where that I live until I die
Ordinary world

What would you wish if you saw a shooting star
In an ordinary world
I’d walk to the end of the earth and afar
In an ordinary world

Baby I don’t have much
But what we have is more than enough
Ordinary world

Where can I find the city of shining light
In an ordinary world
How can I leave a buried treasure behind
In an ordinary world

Baby I don’t have much
But what we have is more than enough
Ordinary world

Favorite from the album .. Instant classic :)

I love the obvious finger strumming. It's like a bedside lullaby.

Do you think we will have the acoustic sets back in the shows? It would be great an acoustic set with this one and a few randoms (whatsername, before the lobotomy, christie road, 80, redundant, when it's time, pulling teeth, etc...) Maybe 3 song each acoustic set, like 21stCB Tour, but not as closer.

Gorgeous ending to the record. It's not my favorite song. I prefer fast, aggressive, Green Day, but this song is beautiful.

Just precious.

The best song on the album. So simple but so good.

Great song. I imagine this being a song to close out a set with

Posted

Just lovely. I want this before Good Riddance at the end of the live shows!

Potential setlist closer before encores? I liked this one more than I thought I would, the way it's recorded makes it sound up close and personal, like "See You Tonight" in some ways, but done much better

This song is so beautiful and really speaks to me. I love it so much.

Oh, so this is going to be this album's "I don't get the hype" song for me :ninja: (Not that I hate it or anything.)

Such a pretty song and the perfect closer for the album.

Lovely closer, really happy with this :)

Worst song on the album. So boring. Would've been happy with Forever Now closing the record out, a much more epic and huge sounding song to close the show, instead we got a limp sounding dull lullaby.

Let's hope not.

I've loved this song ever since I heard it in the movie. The lyrics are relatable and the melody is beautiful. Billie sounds great on this.

It's done so beautifully on the album. I want it to be the closer at shows now.

I think ordinary world serves as the perfect closer. Billies own words were that is what you're left with after you strip back all the chaos and confusion...that statement alone for me justifies its inclusion.

p.s it's not an exact quote but that was the host of what he said about it

I played the last fifteen seconds or so and told my friend it was a preview for a new Sufjan Stevens song

He believed me. Love the atmospheric guitar notes in the background

You really should try to find the beauty in this kind of songs, Green Day music would get so tiring if it was always punk rock and Bang Bang's, it wouldn't be the same without songs like 21 Guns, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Macy's Day Parade and, in this case, Outlaws and Ordinary World.

This is their best closer they've had aside from Whatsername.

Really good closer. Potetial closer at concerts? I would say Yes

Posted

Yes, just yes. It's beautiful, feels kinda country esque. I love this song. Perfect set closer.

I agree that this is the perfect closer for the album. After the confusion, feeling of being lost, overwhelmed and helpless which many of the other songs clearly transport, this song leaves behind some traces of hope even in the darkest hours. Beautiful lyrics!
