It's different. Just wanted to point out how having co-writers isn't experimental.

I'm not saying it is either, I could care less about their experimentation. I think they've done a crapton with FBHT, Network, Trilogy, 21stCB, etc as far as experimentation goes. in a way writing is sorta always an experiment, y'know? lol

No that's just a silly opinion, but an opinion nonetheless. If someone hates a Green Day song it doesn't effect me and I don't feel compelled to change their mind or make them leave

I'm not sure I get why people are saying it's poppy. From a rock-person's point of view it might sound poppy because it's formulaic but any genre can be formulaic and generic. Top 40 radio doesn't sound like this - country radio does though.

Co-writing in rock is nothing new - it's just new for Green Day. I can see why someone might feel it takes away some of the song's authenticity but often a co-writer is just there to guide/push the creation of a song, similar to the role of a producer. And based on the amount of complaints I see about this albums popularity compared to AI, I'd think more people would be glad they're pushing for a radio hit - a radio hit that's still authentic to them.

What's wrong with you people and thinking that the opinions of people who do not disagree with you are invalid and wrong? Music is an art, and art is a very subjective thing. Not everyone's gonna like it, not everyone's gonna hate it. Stop trying to change people's opinions on the song and just let them like/dislike it.

Loved this song until someone mentioned it sounding like Kelly Clarkson.  Need to somehow remove that sound from my brain and go back to loving it as a great new GD song.

Bitching is seagull 12 years later complaining about american idiot in his every post. :P What these people do is mostly genuine contribution.

I am trying to say that instead of complaining all day about a song or something to go listen to something they actually enjoy or do something outside that they enjoy instead of wasting time.  Why not just put Seagull on ignore? I never understood if his opinions make you guys so mad to just do that!

Dear God. I said I wouldn't bother listening to any more after the 30 second preview but then decided that may be harsh so gave it a go. So sorry I did. This sounds like they stole it from a washed up boyband and hit the drums a little harder. Seriously. Listen to anything off Never Gone by Backstreet Boys, this sounds exactly like a track off that album with slightly harder drums. What the fuck? Terrible. I actually can't believe this is Green Day. It's so awful it hurts. Never listening to it again.

Well, Green Day did perform on American Idol once...

They can do whatever they do with their life. If they wanna complain about their favorite's band new song in the SONG DISCUSSION THREAD they can do so. Nobody is mad here pal :)

It's always the same thing bringing up Seagull so it clearly makes you mad. If Seagull wants to hate American Idiot, who cares, let him do "whatever they want with their life."

I'm just glad this song uses real instruments compared to most of the pop crap that's out there.

It's quite sad that has become the new standard in current music.

First impressions

Good song, not as hard hitting as Bang Bang or RevRad for me YET!

I'm sure once I listen more, I'll like it more.

Billie sounds different on this song, it's pretty cool

And I think so far this is the most radio-friendly song that's most likely to become a hit!

When I listen to it I picture the bands growth from longview to now and how adult this sounds! I really really enjoy it! I feel like its more rock n' roll with a dash of pop but thats just how I feeeeel.

Now that we've heard a third of the album, it looks like they needed a producer to stay in focus. Not saying a producer would guarantee a more successful project, but it looks like on their own they couldn't pull together a full cohesive project. Think of how weird Still Breathing will sound when played right after Revolution Radio. It's like they're from two completely different eras of the band.

I'll have to disagree with you on this one. Revolution Radio is #3 on the album, while still breathing comes at track #7, so I'm guessing there will be a nice flow and natural transition in pace and vibe in between these songs, no need to worry about it sounding unnatural. And then again, isn't Green Day known for their signature style and sound, but also for being a band that has always been taking risks and not get ashamed of it? I am so glad we won't be getting Dookie or AI 2.0 (we already have those albums to love and cherish!), and also that RevRad won't be packed with 12 Bang Bang-esque songs. Opinions on the song aside, I'm really glad that Green Day has always been feeding us with variety, so that everyone can enjoy their awesome music. Diversity is what makes them awesome, and honestly what has brought them so far. :)

And this song hit me hard. It sounds honest and passionate, and oh so relatable.

My bad, I confused it with Say Goodbye.

I'm surprised about all the people that are complaining that it sounds so different from anything they have ever done before.  Isn't that one of the reasons we love this band??  That they are always trying something different?

Trying something diffrent? There's nothing diffrent and fresh in it. Still Breathing is just the best example of commercial rock song. You can actually hear similar songs everywhere on the radio, where you can also listen to 5sos and 1D. I'd say that they're trying something diffrent if they played violin or saxophone.

Oh Love is pop-rock song, too. But I know it's Green Day and I don't wonder if they inspired by 1D

Just delete the song from your music library on your computer when you buy the album OCtober 7th :P

Well, it's ok. Just ok. And I listened to it 3 times. It has grown on me. When I heard it for the first time it was like

qjuo-1432568681-193299-full

I think that this song may be a radio hit. But we will see. It's still better than Foreverly.

But it's the thread for discussion of this song. Discussion includes all opinions of a song, this isn't a hug box

hug box sounds nice though.

I don't want to belittle your opinion or anything but this just made me burst out laughing. Not sure what's funnier, the comparison to the Backstreet Boys as if they are the devil incarnate, or saying all this stuff about how terrible it is while just throwing in there that you know a whole album by the Backstreet Boys :D

Haven't heard the song yet but thought I'd click on to the last page of this thread to see what the discussion is like. It's basically the same as every other thread here.

Person 1: I like it

person 2: I don't

person1: stop bitching, if you don't like it why comment?

person2: just because I don't like it doesn't mean I'm bitching.

Seagull: I still don't like anything on AI

:lol::lol: classic recycled conversations
