pieterv
The song sounds to me like a poppier version of Lazy Bones actually. Not sure yet about long term with how poppy it is but loving it for now, and I love that Green Day still just releases whatever the fuck they want, from one of their angriest sounding songs with Bang Bang to this, this album might become as varied as Nimrod if the other song descriptions are true. TheJedi
I love this song. It has a lot of feeling. In my opinion much better than both Bang Bang and RevRad😊
DookieLukie
I guess I'm confused how songs like "Oh Love" and "Sweet 16" got bashed for being too poppy, and this song (which is much poppier) is getting praise.

Well most people here have a bad taste in music. Oh Love, Sweet 16 and Still Breathing are all great songs.
21guns&novacaine
Just realized the verse 'like a son raised without a father, I'm like a mother barely keeping it together." is possibly a reference to his childhood. It was mentioned in the book Nobody Likes You, that after Andrew passed away, Ollie became distant, worked longer, and the kids had to band together to keep the house together while she was gone. Jean
Didn't Billie say something recently (Rolling Stone or Kerrang?) about not liking when bands that co-write to get a hit or something along those lines?
Brutalitops
Showed it to my mum and girlfriend, both mentioned it reminded them of 5SOS and I don't entirely disagree. The production is honestly abysmal on those verses, sounds like a Taylor Swift sample or some shit.

I get your point but i don't know, it really touched me in some way, I like both songs you mentioned but this one is special for me, really

I wonder if that was intentional. This is pretty much a follow-up to how he was feeling when he wrote that song. The intros are so similar that I could almost buy into this being a part 2 of sorts. Ryan
6 minutes ago, DookieLukie said: Well it was co-written, so someone else could have helped write it. That's what I was saying. I don't put too much into the co-writing thing because the people that co-wrote it had no idea. Haha. There was a tweet (or Instagram post) from them saying they just found out they were co-writers. That doesn't happen if they actually actively co-wrote the song. It means that Billie took a portion of some instrumentals or melody and used it for this song and, rightfully, gave them credit for it. 1 minute ago, DookieLukie said: I guess I'm confused how songs like "Oh Love" and "Sweet 16" got bashed for being too poppy, and this song (which is much poppier) is getting praise. Honeymoon period will pass. The trilogy was loved here as it was released, in fact I recall people gushing about 99 Revolutions.

It wasn't co-written in that sense. It's not like he sat down with someone else and wrote it. He likely picked up a melody from another song and had to give them credit. And what he was talking about was making a duet with a pop star just to get mainstream, or something to that effect.

Well, for me this is a hell of a lot heavier than either of those songs. The guitars, the way it flows. I don't like Oh Love but I do really like Sweet 16, but those are much lighter and sweeter than this. The heavy guitars and raw singing in the chorus are pretty strong compared to those two songs. Steven Seagull
Does anyone interpret the lines: "My head's above the rain and roses Making my way away" As, he was dead, looking down on his grave but got another chance and make it back. JardyOfSuburbia
I caved in and listened to the leak and I really, really like this song. It gave me all the feels. It's songs like these that continue to make Green Day relevant because so many people can relate to it. I was worried after reading a lot of the reviews on here, but I just love it. Clayish
Losing hype for the album big time. Those song descriptions from the Rolling Stone article don't sound too great either. Yikes.

It means he's above the grave, rather than under it. Not necessarily that he died, but that he came awfully close. And instead of dying, he's still here, trying to get better to make his way back to whoever loves him–family, fans, etc.

Nah the Trilogy has really cool songs, just needed to have the filler cut off. I was expecting a more 21CB direction with RevRad, and I really liked Bang Bang and enjoyed RevRad the song. But yeah, the album feels a bit...messy?
