07 - Still Breathing

I'm probably in the minority with this, but I absolutely love it. It made me cry, because it totally touched me during the first listen already and I could easily keep listening to it for days without getting tired of it. I love it.

Caved in and listened. I like it. Chorus is catchy. I think it's a grower for me. Definitely unlike anything I've heard from Billie. Which is a feat because they've been doing this for 25 years!

New for them. I doubt anyone means it sounds so new like its never been done before. Pop music is cool, man I use to remember thinking I was so cool hating Katy Perry and stuff.

I don't think I'm cool hating pop music. In fact I love Katy Perry and TSwift etc. Pop music has its place. This is just lazy though. It's nothing a 44 yr old man would write, and I wonder how much of it was co-written. Pop music can be good; this song wasn't good.

I only scrolled through the last two pages or so and most people didn't seem to like it.

Kind of surprised this wasn't the first single. Really reeks of "We need a GUARANTEED hit on this one".

I think this would have been a totally ignored album if they didn't choose Bang Bang as their first single and went with this song instead. Not saying the song is bad but the album wouldnt have been recognized as much without Bang Bang. I think that was a great first single pick and I'm glad they chose it

Also, I thought Bang Bang was going to be a good indicator of the music of the album. I wanted harder stuff, so these kind of songs are disappointing. This is the poppiest song GD has ever written.

@Kaddi. At the beginning the general reception was definitely positive.  It's only in the last few pages that the negatives have become the main discussion point.

What does that even mean? It's a high quality leak lol

the audio isn't nearly what a studio release's will be, plus it may not be the final final version, plus I'm still adjusting my opinions on Green Day songs from 12 years ago so let's just let this one breathe for a minute :P

So if you enjoy Pop music like you say you do, why limit green Day and say what they should or shouldn't do?

It's not my choice to decide what they can or can't do. That's Billie's job. I just said that I don't like it and think it's a bad direction.

Yeah but I already know I don't like 3 of the 12.

I mean, that's just fact, if you don't notice the difference there's little I can do to help you. I really don't care honestly, not everyone will like every song. What'd you think of the first two?

I'm not one to limit a band on what they should or shouldn't do, but just because a band does something new doesn't mean they'll pull it off. The execution here is what's lacking.

For example, the song that most comes to mind when I listen to this track is something like Waiting, which I find to be far better.

Hell, the structure of the song is also pretty similar to X-Kid, which I too find to be a superior song.

i have only listened to the preview a few times.. but i'm not hearing any "katy perry" or "one direction".

i need to have a proper listen, it's obviously extremely different from bang bang and revrad (good to know the album is not as predictable as some might have thought).

but it does still sound like green day to me.

Since I was bored, I tabbed out the entire song. It's awaiting approval on UG, but I thought I'd share it with you guys now. Let me know if it needs any corrections :)

It's a definitely a lighter cut compared to the last two singles, but I'm starting to really get into it. I think the intro could have been less clean and jangly, but once you get over that it's like Are We The Waiting. My favorite Green Day songs are some of their most Experimental. If Billie Joe wants to write a song with a modern pop intro with an 80's pop vibe and a few good helpings of AI Era Green Day, I'll be behind it every step of the way. That being said the overall message is amazing.

I'm pretty sure all the lyrics are Billie Joe. He probably borrowed a melody - the co-writing credit is a technicality most likely.

It clearly IS something a 44 year old would write, because a 44 year old wrote it :P

I don't understand the notion that pop is for teenagers/young people. Anyone can like a bit of pop. Pop isn't synonymous with superficial either, or not good. Green Day have written some amazing pop songs.

It's a fact that the officially released version will be different? The song is of a quality high enough to be able to formulate an opinion on. It's clearly CDQ, not a low-fi recording.

Also, as to my opinions on the previous songs, I found Bang Bang to be decent and Revolution Radio kind of forgettable.

The fact that me saying I'm not a huge fan of a song leads to insults and disrespectful sarcasm is pretty low. Seriously, I have an opinion. Accept it.
