Now that we've heard the new lead single from Revolution Radio, what is your favourite lead Green Day single?

Posted

The Forgotten isn't lead single for Tre, is Twilight OST. And Uno, Dos, Tre is a whole thing I guess, it's an era. Just Oh Love. The only single for Tre is X-Kid.

I just used the earliest singles that Wickipedia listed for each album.

Ooh, this is so difficult! I love both Geek Stink Breath and Hitchin' A Ride. I'm also a big fan of KYE, though I know that many here don't particularly like it.

I voted for Minority really good song and probably will be live lots during the upcoming tour !

Posted

Voted AI not because it was the best song of the singles, but because it caused the most hype out of all of them. Longview and Hitchin' A Ride are better songs overall.

Posted

Favourite song is probably Hitchin A Ride, but for favourite lead single I voted Bang Bang :D

Nah i´s difficult i love them all

Longview is the best song on the list. Dookie wins in every category.

Hitchin a ride opened the door to me buying their albums and ranking them as my favorite band. Aside from growing older. Little has changed. That is in a good way

Longview is my all time favourite Green Day song, and also a nice quirky song about masturbation couldn't have been a better way for them to introduce themselves to the mainstream :D, so it's an easy choice.

Geek Stink Breath and Hitchin A Ride were bold and very good choices for their respective albums, and American Idiot and Bang Bang are also very exciting and excellent lead singles, so kudos to them too. And Minority not a bad pick.

Really the only questionable ones are the trilogy ones (tons of songs that are better and more appropriate for lead singles on there) and Know Your Enemy (not bad but East Jesus Nowhere would've been epic). Seeing them all on a list I realise they've actually picked good first singles for most of their albums.

I'm surprised Hitchin' a Ride is the highest voted.

Yeah, people usually question the lead singles since 21st CB. I think for 21CB, the title track would've been the best lead single. It's GD's most epic song imo. I don't mind Oh Love for Uno, but a lot of people hated that choice.

Although I think Bang Bang has been their best lead single choice since AI or earlier

Well wikipedia is wrong. The Forgotten wasn't a Tré single, it was a single for the Twilight soundtrack. X-Kid is the lead single from Tré. And X-Kid is a much more suitable lead single for Tré than The Forgotten imo

I voted for my favourite song from the list, rather than looking in depth at how they performed or how suitable they were as lead singles or anything.  So I picked Stray Heart.  It's up-tempo, you can dance to it (not, like, clubbing dance, but bounce around and stuff), it's bass-led, happy in general musicality, has words that make sense, a nice guitar solo and, most importantly, it puts a smile on my face when I listen to it.

It wasn't easy to pick between the lead singles because they're all different and excellent in their own right.  I didn't consider Bang Bang because I still feel it's in the honeymoon period.  But Stray Heart was a clear first choice for me.

Yeah, to me there's two ways of deciding. Either your favourite song from the list, or if the lead single is your favourite song from the album.

I chose Oh Love because it's my favourite song from the list, but I also could have chose Stray Heart cause it's my favourite song on Dos, and none of the other lead singles are my favourite from the album. I'm surprised at how many people like Hitchin' A Ride the most.

Just like my favorite three albums (Idiot, Nimrod, Warning), my top choices are the lead singles from each of those.

Maybe that's because it's just so fucking awesome live. It is definitely one of my favourite live songs, and I almost voted for it. But because AI is my favourite album and American Idiot was the perfect song at the perfect time and it's still the embodiment of their great comeback for me, I voted for that one. Although it's not my favourite song from the album.

I didn't really become a fan of the band until American Idiot's 2nd single "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" came out and became the first single I ever purchased with my own money. It still to this day remains my favorite Green Day song of all time.

To answer the question though, probably Bang Bang, because it sure as hell is much better than Know Your Enemy and anything from the trilogy as a lead single and is just an all round better song, and probably is one of the best songs they have ever made, however if I was a fan of the band before American Idiot came out and experienced the moment that song was first released to air, it would most likely take the first position for me on this list.

I'm actually really surprised Hitichin' A Ride is in the lead, I would have thought American would have been although it is close. I go with that one because it's one of the first that dragged me in. I wanted to say Bang Bang but i'm afraid my hype for Revolution Radio would make that decision biased.

Bang Bang, obviously - cuz it's new, it's fast, and we, well I know I have, overplayed all the older shite.  It's not shite but ya know what I mean.   I don't think I could read a book under a tree because the paper from the book could have been made by that trees friend.  I don't like branches falling on me.

I couldn't not pick American Idiot, because it just represents so much. It was such a bold statement for them to make at the time, and ushered in an era that got many, many of us into this band. It's just a damn good song that perfectly encapsulates that time politically and musically.

Despite having crappy seats, Green Day still managed to melt my face off with pyro during this number.  Hitchin is KILLER live and one of my favorite singles ever!

Wait, The Forgotten was the first single from Tre? Talk about a buzzkill. I personally like Bang Bang the best.
