DookieKerplunk! Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 The youtube channel Good Mythical Morning, hosted by Rhett and Link, had a interesting topic yesterday: CRIMINALS CAUGHT ON SOCIAL MEDIA. The first (true) story was about a girl who robbed a bank the made a youtube video about it. The description on the video was something like 'I just robbed a bank! I LOVE GREEN DAY!' to which Rhett responded 'there's never a bad moment to give a Green Day shout out'. Rhett and Link then announced their love of Green Day as well, then singing a line of Good Riddance in completely the wrong key. But that was not the strangest thing about this video: That story is about a girl robbing a bank who loves Green Day, which's sounds and awful lot like Green Day's new Bang Bang music video that was released the same day about a group of girls who robbed a bank dressed as Green Day. Make of that what you will. Below is a link to the youtube video.
madafaka Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Yes, I posted this in the Bang Bang music video thread. As far as I know Rhett and Link film their episodes at least a day before posting (they post at 6AM) which leaves almost no window of opportunity for them to have seen Green Day's video, researched for the episode and filmed and edited it all. Besides, it seems GMM episodes are scheduled on a weekly basis in advance (based on their "behind the scenes" show Good Mythical Crew). Has the story of this girl been in any media in relation to the new music video? If not, even though it sounds ludicrous, I think the most likely case is that Rhett and Link have met Green Day somehow these past weeks, and they have told them about their new music video concept and the true story that inspired it. It sounds out there, but it's either that or a really freaky coincidence.
Second favourite son Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 Or maybe a great bit of marketing by Green Day.
Sarcasm Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 I tried to like gmm, but I just can't. I'll watch this though. However for future reference, I think this can go in the random GD news thread.
21guns&novacaine Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 This is oddly hilarious. Cool that GMM talked about them
PurpleIron1039 Posted September 15, 2016 Posted September 15, 2016 My little brother loves GMM, although I'm not really a huge fan. This is cool, though!
DookieKerplunk! Posted September 16, 2016 Author Posted September 16, 2016 Showed my mum both videos and she thinks that the original video went so viral that Green Day saw it and were obviously inspired by it. The fact that GMM used it, is just because Green Day's album is coming out soon and they wanted a current episode. The fact they were uploaded onto youtube on the same day is purely coincidental, she says. That's a pretty good explanation. Can't really think of any better.
Strychnine. Posted September 16, 2016 Posted September 16, 2016 This is really cool! I love Rhett and Link.
