Tim Armstrong's directing the proper video for Bang Bang. That is cool as fuck.

Has he ever directed a video before?

I gotta wait and see. Not getting too excited about that.

He hasn't directed in a really long time, but has produced and acted quite a bit.

He's a very creative and smart guy, and it's always good to have fresh ideas! I'm sure it'll be good.

This as far as I know! And a couple more of Rancid videos, but I don't remember which one.

I remember when the guys dropped Demolicious the contrast between their demo songs and the same songs on the Trilogy couldn't have been more distinct.  The guitars and drums were dirtier, more powerful, and in a large sense more "real", than what had actually made it onto the album (so much so that I have a custom Trilogy playlist that subs in some of the demo cuts for songs like Carpe Diem and Baby Eyes).  Looks like the band took this feedback to heart.  One big change from past albums is who *isn't* on the mix: Chris Lord-Alge, who has mixed just about every Green Day album since Dookie.  He's been criticized before for applying too much compression when mixing the tracks for the final production, particularly where Tre's percussion is concerned.  As I understand it (and I'm no audio engineer either, but here goes....) the effect of compressing a track is you boost its overall volume at the cost of leveling off the peaks and valleys.  Too little compression gives you a track that doesn't play nicely with the others, while too much gives you a disconcerting "loud and muddy" result.  Chris leans toward the "too much compression" end of the spectrum, which gives you that arena sound but doesn't let the instruments really stand out.  Different production team this time, and it seems we're getting a more "balanced" mix that plays a lot more like Demolicious than the Trilogy or 21st Century Breakdown.  Me likes.

Great insight. It must be compression. I was alternating BB with various other favorite tracks off each album, and every one of CLA's mixes seemed to be more blended/ muddied vs. BB, which has a very unique and powerful sound comparatively. Unfortunately, now I can't listen to anything off the old catalogue without being annoyed by it! All the old stuff now sounds much less dynamic by comparison. Good non-technical explanation that makes a lot of sense, thanks.

In Tim Armstrong I Trust until proven otherwise. I'm really excited for this- I'd been hoping for some type of collaboration between the Armstrongs for some time (as far as I know, they haven't worked together since "Radio" aside from playing together during the HOF warm-up), and I'll take the video. It probably won't make much of a difference regarding the video, but Rancid can still bring it- I never miss them when they tour, and they've been at the top of their game the last couple of times I've seen them. Timmy Timebomb is a legend and it will be great to have a highly creative, non-traditional director for this video.

I'm very excited to see the direction they go in for this video. I really hope it kicks ass. It's also nice that this song will get more promo through a separate music video coming after the lyric video.

Holy fuck, that's so awesome!

I know he had a hand in the 'Live Freaky, Die Freaky' film, so him and Billie have worked together in the past aside from writing 'Radio' together.

If they can somehow turn this video into a short film like music videos similar to JOS and WMUWSE, maybe with a story about an ISIS member Planning a shooting spree, and then getting gunned down by police (that just happened in Canada) it could be the colest thing ever.

Don't know if they'll go that far though.

The lyric video is awesome - I guess we will see the car now since its in the artwork.

Veeery interesting! Can't wait to see it and I like how they seem to be trying out a lot of new things.

It actually just kind of hit me that they confirmed the music video with Tim Armstrong directing. I was too busy being happy that one of my questions actually got answered by the band.

I think it's a great and wise decision to have Tim direct the video. I am not very familiar with his previous directing work but I'm sure he can bring some very interesting ideas to the table that might make the music video even more outstanding than the lyrics video. Can't wait to see the video.

I'm really curious to watch this video :) Can't wait!!

i really can't wait for this music video. I don't know what to expect!!!

I've been dreaming of a collaboration for 20 years... Remember back in the day, they used to thank eachother in their album booklets

I have a feeling this gonna turn out awesome. I like how the band is either doing things on their own or collaborating with their friends/people they are close to for this album. :)

I think it has a lot of potential. Quick question: Where do you guys think they'll go conceptually with the video? Do you think they'll actually portray a shooting or something else?... If so, one like 21 Guns, or something more violent and visual to get across the point of the song?

I hope they take this opportunity to make a statement with this video, the subject matter could lend itself so well to a really powerful video
