Billie Joe re: Bang Bang

"Yeah. It's about the culture of mass shooting that happens in America mixed with narcissistic social media. There's this sort of rage happening, but it's also now being filmed and we all have ourselves under surveillance. To me, that is so twisted. To get into the brain of someone like that was freaky. It freaked me out. After I wrote it, all I wanted to do was get that out of my brain because it just freaked me out."

so stoked. Especially about the bolded part.

glad they self-produced it!

Dpes he sound smarter than usual or is it just me on the verge of heart attack from excitement? My hands are shaking

Well in all the excitement of getting out of my meeting and listening to Bang Bang I ended up missing my bus and having to wait nearly an hour for the next one. It was so worth it though! Love the song!'

Great read. I always love these interviews happening before an album drops. They create so much excitement for the record and understanding for the individual songs.

Wonderful read it creates more excitement for the album.  Now I can't wait until October

Huh it seems the tracklist and release date that everyone thought was fake was true!

Also, he said "Jason White, Jason Freese and Jeff Matika are back with us". Does this mean that Jason White wasn't there to record the album?

I'm kind of surprised by how he talks about Uno, Dos, Tre. He really knows what went wrong with the albums and he's not shy to admit it. Don't take that for granted, it's a hard thing to do. :)

I don't think he was, the rolling stone article said it was just billie mike and tre in the studio

Loved the interview, reading what Billie has to say about the individual songs makes me so excited to to hear each one of the them!

Seems like self-producing was the right way to go for them

I don't think Billie Joe's stupid... Personally from his lyrical content he always struck me as quite intelligent. I mean he struggles to get his point across in interviews sometimes but that doesn't really say anything about his intelligence. In my job I work with some doctors who can hardly string a sentence together even though you'd think they'd have to be smart, to have got through med school.

Have to agree with every point, including the one about doctors. If they're discussing something outside their field of expertise, the surgeons I come in contact with on the job can sound downright foolish.

The bow guitar bit makes me very excited!

And that he says Tre's and Mike's playing is the best ever. I'm still a little bit afraid that the rest of the album is not that good, that Bang Bang is really standing out from the rest of the album, but reading that they've really gone forward musically with the album is indeed exciting!

Does anyone still have that tracklisting that also contained the individual track lengths?

I think he's very smart, I think his lyrics are clever, witty, relevant and consistently very good and I love his use of language.  I don't think it's easy to judge by some of the interviews though, I Think he sometimes seems bored, who wouldn't be, by banal, repetitive questions.  I also think though that his sometimes stumbling responses seem pretty genuine and I rather that to rehearsed.  Also agree with comment above, love his honest, open reply re the trilogy.  It must be a thought to go into an interview wondering what's going to come at you after such a public collapse, rehab and albums generally regarded as being failures.  Brave.

Me neither, but this interview seemed different compared to those from the past. He really struck me as a much more mature and humble person. More intelligent, I could say.
