Dakke Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I was thinking about the new album and how it would compare to their earlier records and I think they have done some really nice covers in the past (My Generation, WCH, Another State of Mind, A Quick One While He's Away) and bonus songs (Too Much Too Soon). I hope we'll get some bonus songs on a deluxe version of the album (which the Trilogy didn't have). I'd personally love them to do a Clash or/and a Ramones cover and maybe throw a studio version of some C&V song like Dreamcatcher into the mix. Which bonus songs would you love to see?
inthehallwaynow Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I know it will never happen but I would love to hear them cover Personality Crisis by the New York Dolls or One Way Or Another by Blondie maybe some more Misfits definitely the ones you listed too.. I gotta agree I love me some GD covers or extra material its like a special present haha

I definitely agree with the Misfits, though I wouldn't rail against a Kinks song or some Stones track (they often talk about Exile on Main St.).

I would love to hear Green Day do a version of Social Distortion's version of Ring of Fire. Their cover of that song is my favorite and I think hearing Green Day do a version of it would be pretty badass.
Chin for a Day Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I don't want any covers I want all new green day

I would rather another too much too soon than a cover. Billie is one of the best songwriters of all time. I want as much of his music as I can get

Chin for a Day Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 They have done some very good covers, such as a quick one, which I feel is better than the original. But also some awful ones, like I fought the law. I'm still for all new gd. We haven't had new music from them in so long I'm just greedy

Wow I cant believe that never occurred to me Ring of Fire would be out of this world good if they covered it! nice one!

They pretty much ripped the vocal melody from the verses in ring of fire and used it in Tales of another broken home in Jesus of Suburbia. I always end up singing ring of fire during this part of the song especially during the solo.

Of course they also covered Teenagers from Mars (Misifts) as desired earlier in this thread as The Network. Also Hybrid Moments as GD?
PursuitOfEpicness Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 Lol completely forgot about tired of waiting for you.
Snowman Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 But I do agree GD are well suited to Kinks / 60s style tunes. Rip This Joint also worked quite well. Goes back to BJA "Englishman impersonating an American impersonating an Englishman" quote way back when.
unextraordinarygirl Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I thought their version of I Fought the Law was good personally. I would love to hear them do What Do I Get? By the Buzzcocks.

PurpleIron1039 Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I'd like to hear them do full covers of some of the songs they play snippets of at concerts. Wait, ooh, a Queen cover would be really nice. I'd prefer that they choose a deeper cut and not anything from News of the World, though. Actually, Stone Cold Crazy would be great.
Fuzz Posted August 6, 2016 Posted August 6, 2016 I've always been very impressed by anything they cover. They could decide to just be a cover band and still sell out a stadium.

I'd like to hear them play those snippets they do live all the way through too. They've proven they have the chops to do it. They played just a few seconds of a Metallica song once and I went crazy! I wanted to hear more. But yeah any of them would be cool. 19 minutes ago, Andres said: I've always been very impressed by anything they cover. Yes there is on Youtube somewhere. I've seen it.

Yeah, they did Master of Puppets. Billie can clearly play thrash; it's basically just a blend of punk and metal.
deadair Posted August 7, 2016 Posted August 7, 2016 I wish they'd release a studio version of their cover of Queen's "We Are the Champions". Seeing them on TV playing Live 8 in 2005 was my first exposure to Green Day and them performing that cover is ultimately what sold me as being a band I had to check out further.
