Their are so many amazing songs . Like Why do you want him - Was that the first song Billie wrote ? . And all of the songs on the 1000 hours EP are about the same girl ? . Also more recently with Oh Love and Last Night on Earth etc .

What's your favorite Green Day song about Love / Relationships ? - Are their any lyrics that mean anything to you ?

My favorites are Only of You and Paper Lanterns :) .

Redundant is so haunting, I love it.

"Why do you want him?" is rumoured throughout the Internet to be Billie's first song and to be about his mom's partner or something. However, a few years ago there was an interview with Larry Livermore in which he implied it wasn't his first song.

Anyway, to pick my favourite love song is difficult... Maybe Redundant, 80, or Scattered if it can be considered a love song. I also love Paper Lanterns, or When it's time.

I know a lot of these replies are just jokes anyway but can you guys make sure you say something about why you've chosen the song instead of just posting titles? "List threads" are frowned upon :P

I think whatsername is probably my favourite, 'forgetting you but not the time' really resonates with me.  Sometimes you need to separate the memories from the person so you can remember the good times without them being tarnished by the fact that you spent them with someone who hurt you.  The wondering about how someone you've fallen out of contact with is getting on is also something I find relatable, as well as that sort of 'I don't want to care but I still sort of do' vibe about it.

Billie said that song isn't about his mom. Think he tweeted it years ago. Positive he said it somewhere anyway.

I picked Stuart and the Ave because it very accurately displays the frustration and anger post-breakup.

Stuart & the Ave fer sure

I'm sorry but no "relationship" in any form can be captured by words more effectively than,

"Before it might have made some sense
But now it's all fucked up"

How about 'Fuck Off and Die?'  :P

My favorite is When It's time. It's cool that he wrote that for Adrienne when he was 19. The lyrics are so beautiful and heartfelt. I also love Redundant and Church on Sunday because it shows that when you love someone you really have to work at it and make lots of compromises for it to work. Their relationship hasn't been perfect but when you think about the fact that they are still together and love each other for 20+ years it's pretty amazing.

Dry Ice ,because it's a damn brave song.I imagine myself writing a song like that, would i show anyone?no. It's an epic song but to share those lyrics... well he was brave and honest at first place.

2000 light years away because..that song is amazing.

Sassafras roots or pulling teeth..just love those songs.

Stuart and the ave ."I'm not stupid enough to stay with you!!" just love the lyrics.

Redundant ,  love lyrics, melody ,everything. It's a song about dealing with problems ,not just loving the looks like ordinary love songs.

Church on sunday, for the same reason.

I don't know, maybe She or She's A Rebel.

Oh Love

Wouldn't think of that one myself because I constantly forget it exists, but when you mention it, I agree it's awesome.

I wouldn't consider "Oh Love" to be about a relationship. It's sort of just a narrator begging for some sort of emotional reaction. He's "hanging his heart on a noose," willing to sacrifice for some sort of emotion, even bad ones.

I always though "Oh Love" was about the music industry. hmm.

Anyway one of my favorite classic love songs would be "The One I Want" because it's innocent but honest, and I live for that post-meeting, pre-dating stage of relationships.

Another really good one that I don't think was mentioned, was Jinx. I've always loved the song and it describes co-dependency pretty well.

Redundant, because it's not like most love songs. The majority is about new, fresh love, and this one is about an old, but still strong one. It's how I feel about my parents and close friends. We've known and loved each other for so long it's routine now, so we're used to hear each other say "I love you", which makes it not that meaningful anymore. "I love you is not enough" and we're"lost for words", trying to find new ways of showing love and different words to express it. I find that very true to reality and the song is an amazing summary of the feeling. I know this is all obvious, but I want to specify why I like the song.

I also like When It's Time because it's beautiful proof of Billie and Adrienne's love. I saw on "Broadway Idiot" that it was his first song about her and I admire those pure, youthful lyrics that came from teenage Billie's mind, still not knowing if they would have a future together but with a good feeling about it. Now it's been over 20 years of marriage and they still seem to be doing great. I find the Green Day version much better than the broadway one because, just like their version of Favorite Son is lacking "rage", When It's Time (and, tbh, Wake Me Up When September Ends as well) is lacking "love". When they sang it for the first time while reahearsing, Billie, Addie, Mike and even Tre cried. They were all clearly very emotional about it, which shows how important the song is. They all felt the honesty in those words and were touched by it, and it brought back good memories, which poured out in a river of tears.

I guess I don't even have to start on Wake Me Up When September Ends.

Haha exactly...;):DMine too.

It's just a great snapshot of a "different" kind of relationship. It 's not everyone's thing, but the narrator is finding fulfilment in his own way.

Redundant is a beautiful song about long term love, and finding new ways to show and reaffirm it.
