Destroy Pop Punk forever

1039 Smoothed Out Nimrods

Recommended Posts

Billie Joe said in an interview in 2016 that he wanted to destroy the phrase pop punk forever. We know they are making new music so what styles do u want it to be? Basically what album do u want the new album to be like? I say kerplunk.

Norwegian death metal jokes aside, I could really go for something like Insomniac. Something more adult and angry. I'm pretty sure political content is unavoidable at this moment with Trump looking like a salvation or destroyer of worlds depending on who you ask, Hillary being more corrupt than the Russian press and Bernie Sanders as the odd man out viewed as a commie bastard because he doesn't suck right-wing cock and can seem politically naive.

All in all, it's new music, and I'm stoked.

I remember on Static Noise, Andres enlightening the world to his ritual for new Green Day material. I'm going to follow in his footsteps.

Actually he tweeted it.

He tweets a lot of shit.

However he may just intend on doing a woeful rap album, a pure pop album, a dance album or an EDM album and call it pop punk so it is "destroyed" in the minds of pop punk fans forever.

i've given up all expectations, I really have no idea how the next one is going to sound and I'm tired of guessing haha. I have a feeling it's gunna be all over the place and it's not going to be a stripped down throwback green day sound

Tom DeLonge tweets a lot of crazy stuff too. I guess we'll see if Billie Joe's stuff actually comes to fruition.

Btw, it was a tweet and not in an interview

Btw, it's been heavily discussed here:

It's probable that he just doesn't like the phrase, the way pop and punk stick together because some people believe they're not compatible. I can't think of it in any other way considering that they're catalogued as pop punk often.

ha! I'm sure i'll have mixed feelings about it, i'm sure there will at least be a few songs on there that i really love, and also I didn't mean "all over the place" as a bad thing, i'm just saying that if someone expects a straight up album like kerplunk, dookie, or insomniac, well, that's not gunna happen. they've come a long way and they're a very diverse band now, so i'm expecting a diverse album.

I'm just kidding too

Nimrod is pretty damn diverse and it was awesome ;) As long as the lyrics make some kind of sense I'll be happy because the music is almost certainly going to be awesome :D I don't really expect anything but somehow expect to be disappointed after the three in a row last time...yet still hope to be proven wrong.

Emotions are kind of everywhere every damn time I see they are actually in that studio :runaround::lol:

This.

However, as well as the thread Matt posted above where the tweet was discussed and the next album is being discussed generally, there's already a thread for talking about how you'd like the next album to sound:

So I'll close this and please continue the discussion there :)
