inthehallwaynow Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 LOOOK AT THAT! Billie's even copying the lead singers look! pfft false idols for ya
DookieLukie Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Bullshit. Why are you even on here if you hate Green Day so much?
unextraordinarygirl Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Only the beginning sounds sort of the same so I don't think it's a total copy. Thanks for posting that video though, I like Thin Lizzy.
Chin for a Day Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Same chord structure, different keys. So sounds alike, but technically different.

fukingcounterstrike Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Hacks, always have been, always will be.
Steven Seagull Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Someone stole their recorded material before the release of the album, so greenday was like: "fuck it, we'll just steal too". And that's how American Idiot was born.
ghesboro Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The intro kinda sounds like Thin Lizzy, but it's still not American Idiot vs. Dillinger Four's Doublewhiskeycokenoice level in terms of ripping off.
Karl Karlson Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The intro reminded me of Jos, yes. But the rest of the song sounds pretty much like Last Christmas
Sanity Loan Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Yep, using a common chord progression should totally be considered "ripping off." *insert song that was recorded before "Dear Miss Lonely Hearts" and uses the same chord progression and then say Thin Lizzy ripped them off*
Steven Seagull Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Just like Green Day "stole" Stay The Night from this guy. He mentions Green Day Authority. Pay extra attention to the comments. Green Day fans get butthurt so easily

Chin for a Day Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 The I, vi, IV, V chord progression, which is the chord progression used in Little Miss Lonely Hearts and Jesus of Suburbia is also known as the 50's chord progression. It was the chord progression used in almost every single song from the 50's and it was used often and is still used often today. Songs from the 50's to Crocodile Rock to Baby by Justin Bieber use it. There are thousands upon thousands of songs that use it.
MSteve1232000 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Is every band who released a 12 bar blues song a plagiarist now too? Serious. Do you consider that plagiarism? It's fine if you do, but then you'd have to put most musicians into the category of "thief" then, also. That example up there, it sounds vaguely like JOS for the first 7 seconds of the song, and that's because you pointed it out. I'd never have made that connection without having it pointed out, I don't think most people would. Rock music is derivative, all of it. It's an inherently derivative art form. That's part of the social contract of being in the rock music industry.

The Disappearing Boy Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Most music sound alike. It's nothing new or unusual. See: http://www.soundsjustlike.com/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAcjV60RnRw
unextraordinarygirl Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Rock music takes a lot of its sound from the Blues; which came before it. This is nothing new. Can we move on to a new subject now?
Guest Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Can't even handle the assmad in this thread rn.

Like music when it was first made, and variations of instruments and how they are combined (birth of rock and roll). It's just having the creativity to create that new content and arrange appropriately, something greenday apparently doesn't have

I think it's hilarious how defensive Green Day fans get over them blatantly plagiarizing a song when basically every other moderately talented band on the planet does it. Also, reported for calling me a moron.

The issue isn't about having a discussion about music and similar songs. It's that you post this to annoy people.
