Larry Livermore is releasing a new book all about Lookout Records. It comes out November 13th.

How To Ru(i)n A Record Label documents the author’s experiences from Gilman Street to Bialystok, Poland, as he built Lookout from the ground up, only to find himself losing control of the label a mere ten years later, and abruptly walking away from the multi-million dollar company when it was at its peak of success.

Throughout that time, however, he was central to the influential scene that gave birth to Gilman Street, Maximum Rocknroll, and a new generation of independent music that has had an everlasting effect on both the underground and mainstream. In the process, he just might even have found himself.

Sounds interesting! I love the Dookie booklet style cover art too. Might make a nice Christmas gift to myself.

That's cause Pat did the artwork on the cover :P I've actually seen that picture used somewhere before, I can't recall if it was on an ad, a record, a comp, or a bootleg though.

Someone mentioned something about it on Larry's ask.fm. I forget the details though.

Ah, an old Lookout catalog it seems. Now I just have to find if I have it saved somewhere

Knew it was the same artist, just couldn't remember the name :P

"With a new book coming out, I guess it's time to think about going around to book and record stores and doing some talking and reading and answering questions, as well as signing the books (maybe posters too?) that you're hopefully going to buy. With that in mind, if you have any suggestions or invitations for such a gig in your vicinity, please let me know. I'll be available for book-related shenanigans from mid-November through mid-December, and then again from mid-January onwards.Hope to see some — or lots — of you out there on the punk rock literary circuit!" -Larry's Facebook

Can't get much better endorsements than those from Billie and Mike! I must get this, really should've been faster and got the hardcover.

I went to the event. It was great to hear first hand the experiences of Lookout from Larry. Lots of questions throughout.

Billie Joe and Mike showed up too and even asked some questions. Nice to see the support!

I just pre-ordered the paperback.  First the coffee, now this.  I'm just giving all my money away to Green Day related stuff today.  I really hope Tre doesn't come up with a business now, my checkbook can't handle it.

He's always coming up with monkey business, but hopefully that won't cost you anything. If you'd been at the reading last week, you would have the original story of King Underpants. I meant to put it in the book but forgot. I'll probably tell it again someday, but not just now.

I would have loved to have been at the book reading, but the 3,000 miles between me and the event was a bit of a stretch.  But you can feel free to put a separate copy of the King Underpants story in my package when you ship my book.

Does anyone know if this has a lot of new info or interesting stuff just about green day? I mean I always like reading Livermore stuff but just wondering if it is mostly about the scene and other bands

Got to page 95 tonight. Very interesting so far. Green Day is just starting to get mentioned. I don't know most the bands he's talked about, but it's very interesting to see all these different parts fall together. Definitely paints a detailed picture of the scene where Green Day started.
