Billie Joe's first guitar, how he learned, first song... need to fact check!

I saw this list being shared around: 33 Famous Guitarists: Their First Guitar & How They Learned to Play

I noticed Billie Joe on the list (about the 9th one down), and I want to fact check this! I saw something on his Wikipedia page about the first song he was told to record by a teacher when he was five years old. Is there an interview/first-hand account of Billie Joe talking about his first guitar, his guitar lessons, and what songs he started learning?

As a guitar player myself I find this stuff fascinating

I was watching this video a few days ago. The first part is an interview with Billie Joe and he talks about how he got the guitar and who showed him how to play it. Also Billie's first song that he sang when he was 5 is on youtube and so is the interview from that same time. Hope this helps.

yes, good point Juste Bro. That book talks about all of those things too.plus it's an  interesting read about the band's history. I would recommend it.

He wasn't playing guitar when he was 5, he was just singing and learning piano. He sang a song called Look For Love, it was recorded along with a little interview:

As for guitar I know he's said he wanted to start learning it when he was about 5 but his fingers were too small, I think it's correct that he didn't start until he was 9 or 10? He got the guitar "Blue" when he was 11 but he'd already started to play by then. That interview posted above is a good example of him talking about when he started to play, there's definitely loads more interviews where he talks about it as well (although I'm no help as I can't think which ones ).
