ColinOr Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 I just found this old thread and news article: http://www.greendaycommunity.org/topic/43456-green-day-has-3-albums-worth-of-new-material/ Could the Trilogy have been considered as early as 2006? Just freaked me out that this seemed to have predicted the future.
Guest Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 No, Billie just writes a fuckton of songs. They've released a couple of albums (Nimrod and 21stCB) that could have been split in two. Billie wrote over 60 songs for 21stCB alone, as I recall. The Trilogy was just the first time they released a shit ton of material, and was a good lesson in why they should never ever do such a thing again on a major release.

Spike Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Even if it was planned as early as 2006 (which I very much doubt) I'd hardly consider it "predicting the future." Planning something out and then going ahead and doing it is fairly normal behaviour.
Fuzz Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 There is a Q&A thread, but I have no problem with topics like this on their own. I'd rather someone make a topic and see if it sparks a conversation vs two posts in a huge topic and that's it.
Grinch Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Why have I never heard of this? I'm curious as to what happens to all these songs he writes and never records.
zeldachick14 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I don't think so. If u watch cuatro Billie Joe discusses how he just kept writing songs, and before he knew it he had more than he needed for one or two albums, so he decided on a trilogy.
AmyxLongview Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 If they wanted to do a trilogy back then, I think it definitely would have worked better for the 21CB songs.
captain peroxide Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Based on the Trilogy, which represents the stuff they thought was good enough to put out, roughly 65% of the songs Billie writes are total shit.
inthehallwaynow Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 twas bllly and I who came up with the idea for the trilogy after a game of chutes and ladders in my private library

Lauren Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Most bands write a lot of material and then choose the best ones for the album. I mean, look at any artist. Do photographers put every single picture they ever took in their portfolio? Do authors publish everything they ever wrote? No, just like musicians don't record every song they write. Just because they have a lot of songs doesn't mean half of them are good. On a related note (ha that's punny), do you notice how a lot of band's "debut" albums are a lot better than their sophomore releases? They had tons of time to write and record the first album and pick the very best songs to go on it. Then they went on tour and didn't have as much time to write songs, so they end up using a lot of ones that didn't make the cut from the first round -- which leads to the second album not being as good.
greendepent Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Well, that article talks about 3 records. One is 21st Century Breakdown, other is Stop, Drop and Roll. And well, the rest is unknown. But maybe some few songs from Uno, Dos and Tré comes from that sessions.
Alan86 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 3 albums of material which was condensed down to, act1: Heros & Cons, act2: charlatans & saints and act3: Horseshoes & Handgrenades. This is 21st Century Breakdown

I think tre/cuatro mentioned how many billie had written - but I watched it so long ago - does anyone remember.

sara_gd Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I can't open the image but, if I remember right, it was the magazine that came up with the "3 new albums for Green Day" thing, they just said that they have enough material to put into three albums. Still, there's lots of bands that have release a double CD and things like that, so I can picture them thinking about releasing looots of songs they had in this way as early as 2006. Even more if you think that they're three people in the band, it's not such a mad idea after all Oh, and I'm loving reading that thread from 2006 with people going like "finally!", "they've waited too long" or "I hope we don't have to wait 9 damned months"... Poor things.
