Would you consider 21st Century Breakdown a Half-assed album?

No matter what they did, the follow up album to American Idiot was going to be "Flawed" in the eyes of critics and fans. When you're at the absolute top of the world, there's nowhere to go but down.

With that said. No, 21st Century Breakdown is not half-assed, and it's one of my favorite albums of theirs.

The funny thing is it actually got rave reviews when it first came out, some even called it better than American Idiot and gave it higher ratings and I don't remember it being called a disappointment in the media. Once they made some poor single choices and it didn't sell as well and it got overshadowed by the AI musical that cooled down.....for example Kerrang later said they'd given it 4/5 when in fact they'd given it 5/5 when it came out. Shows how reviews of and opinions on music can be influenced by how successful an album turns out to be. But it did win the Best Rock Album Grammy, not too shabby! Might not have been a huge success in terms of sales but it really wasn't a failure in the eyes of critics as people seem to think it was now.

21CB definitely isn't half assed, the problem is simply that it's not very good.

Breakdown is easily their best work, not half-arsed at all.

Breakdown down was a solid evolution from the sound they had been building from nimrod onward. They expanded upon their sound while keeping what made them successful (harmonies, lyricism, melody)
