rootbeersoup
"slammin' tone and uncompromising tone"They've got a regular Don Draper working in Gibson's marketing departmentDon't you think that Gibson would be more successful selling these if they DID make it more economical rather than focusing on the quality. Think about the "average" Green Day fan....how old are they? Could the average Green Day fan afford a $3500 guitar??? Would somebody who actually COULD afford to spend almost 4 grand on an electric guitar spend it on a Billie Joe Guitar??? I'm 37 and I think at this point in the game, I'm on the older side of the Green Day hardcore fan spectrum, and I just couldn't justify spending this amount of money. $1500 at the most.Gibson could make a guitar that has similar features for an affordable price. The Les Paul Jrs were perfect because they were relatively affordable AND you could pretty much find any picture of Billie during that era and see him playing that model guitar. I have difficulty finding pics of Billie playing that new Gibson. I'm sure someone will post a picture for me just to show me that they found one, gee thanks, you're missing the point, but I think signature guitars are the MOST successful when they area) affordableand2) recognizable.Example: the single cut Les Paul Jr's, the double cut yellow Les Paul Jr. and yes (shameless plug for myself) BLUE available at www.BJGuitars.com Or just get Epiphone to make the guitar. Countless other guitarists have had signatures made by Epiphone
Jet Taman
Exactly. I'm absolutely in love with Billie's Gibson J-180 (the Everly Brothers guitar), but I can't shell out 3-4 grand for it. I've been looking really hard for an cheaper version of it from Epiphone, but they are really rare and hard to find. There are 2 on ebay right now....here's one of them.http://www.ebay.com/itm/Epiphone-SQ-180-Don-Everly-Acoustic-Guitar-Rare-/181421766479?pt=Guitar&hash=item2a3d94774f
Tightwad Hill
Here's the same guitar for cheaper on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/2014-Gibson-Memphis-BILLIE-JOE-ARMSTRONG-ES-137-unplayed-NEAR-MINT-/131201914893?pt=Guitar&hash=item1e8c3e580d

I have no idea what the quality of the guitar is or what problems it may have. And ebay's return policy is pretty bad, and I'd really prefer to try it myself before investing. whatshername-thefrenchy
OMG! I want it. But it's way too expensive. Why don't Gibson make Epiphone models of BJ's signatures? Just like fender did squier models for Mike's basses. I'm sure they would sell many of these if it were epiphones. Even the Les Paul Jr is expensive for the average Green Day Fan. I know $900 (not sure of the price in dollars but anyway) is cheap for a Gibson, but it is still too expensive for a guitar. You can find pretty decent guitars at 500 bucks. TommyGun
love the design but far too expensive for "normal" or average green day fans gibson should know that for this price, at most some musicians, wealthy people or such who are already in business will buy this guitar, if it would be cheaper then in general much more fans could affort it
BullwinkleCheech
Why is everybody complaining about the price tag? Spend a little more, get a little more. It's a good guitar. If you want it, pay the price for it. It's not that much money anyway. I've seen guitars go for more.

BullwinkleCheech
But it's over priced (imo) That's why we're complaining How is it overpriced? Is it the material, the way it's assembled? You pay for the brand, the material, the labor costs. It's not that overpriced at all. It's a luxury item.

You can get better value for money out there For example Epiphone Casino, probably sounds and is most likely assembled similarly to this..Gibson on the headstock doesn't mean much if you look into it... At least nowadays.

Without Billie's name it would still go for around 2500 probably. I might pick this one up and play it for some time though. I like the look of it. Yeah it's overpriced because of the name on it, but they're made of very high quality materials. There's a world of difference between many Epiphones and Gibsons. If you don't want a Gibson you don't have to get one.

LPbilliejr
it's been on GDA, and i personally think for 2K it's a pile of crap. Billie Joe has used it like 4 times, he used grestch semi hollows to record the trilogy, so I think they're the semi hollows he really goes for. I'd buy it if it was at the top 400. He's used es-137s since 21st Century Breakdown... know your shit before you spread your 13 year old lies And on top of that this guitar is a Gibson "Memphis" so the price tag will automatically be more than the usa and custom line of guitars, because the quality is better. It has custom electronics all the way through....

DookieLukie
So did you win this?? It went for $245! What a great deal!!!!! Nah I stopped bidding once it hit $200 for two reasons. ONE, I still didn't trust its condition, and as a college kid I don't have the financial backing to take a chance for 200. Plus, I saw an even nicer one on a music store's website, only to find out after the ebay bidding ended that the website wasn't up to date On with the hunt!
