Svante Axbacke Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Hey people, I just wanted to drop by to make sure any GD fans in Scandinavia, or elsewhere with travel plans this way, don't miss the fact that Malmö Opera, in southern Sweden close to Copenhagen, will stage a production of American Idiot next year. There will be 20 performances between Jan 7 and Apr 19, 2015. This is a completely new production that will look nothing like the versions staged elsewhere in the world. A completely new experience in all aspects of the show. I am working as the sound designer for the show and we are having a great time at the moment putting together equipment to make sure the show sounds just like it should. I can tell you that everyone involved is very excited to be working with this. Both because we like the show and the music, and because it's very different from the operas and musicals we usually do. There is a really good band put together for the production with members from Sahara Hotnights and The Ark. On Thursday, the band and two singers from the ensemble will make their live debut at a big show we have every year at the opera where we show highlights from the coming season. They will be doing "Boulevard of Broke Dreams" and "Give Me Novacaine". The songs will be sung in English (of course, would be hard to do it any other way...) so it could be worth a trip even if you don't know Swedish. The spoken parts will be in Swedish but they are so short and you probably know them by heart anyway. I'll be happy to post updates or answer questions of there is any interest for that. Otherwise, I'll just creep back under the rock I came from. Or the mixing desk. Cheers, /Svante
oda Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I didn't know this I might take the trip over I've seen the show on Broadway and it would be interesting to see a different version/production
Overjoyed Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Wow that sounds awesome And Sahara Hotnights and The Ark are just epic bands See you in Malmö next year
insomniax Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 This is really cool, I will definitley be there! Yay!
TommyGun Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Really cool that some people are staging American Idiot in a different way it's so convincing that AI is one of the best records ever
H0m3coming Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 Awesome! As a fairly new, Swedish, Green Day-fan who hasn't been to any concert or something before, this seems great!
Beathe. Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Interesting. Malmö isn't that far. Should definitely look into it when I get my schedule from school. The fact that they're going to talk in Swedish is putting me off a bit, but I guess I can ignore it.

Beathe. Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 Well it is after all in Sweden I'm aware of that. It would have annoyed me if it was in Norwegian as well. Don't like it at all, when it comes to movies and things like that. That's probably why.

That's probably why. I know what you mean. But I don't complain. This is my change to see this without going to America. I'm only live 2 hours away from Malmö, so I'm very pleased.

Heather. Posted May 26, 2014 Posted May 26, 2014 When I saw the title of this thread, my first reaction was "Malmo is the name of the bed I bought from IKEA!" I sleep on the Malmo. Sorry, Sweden Sounds fun!
BadgerLALA Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I just read on Facebook that Zandro Santiago, the lead singer in Dead By April, will play St Jimmy! Awesome. Dead By April is a very good, they are like a Swedish version of Linking Park
Beathe. Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Looks like he can pull it off. Don't get why plain tickets to Malmö are so expensive. I'll figure this out somehow..

Beathe. Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Oh yes. I'm excited for it Well you have to fly to Copenhagen first then take the train Nah, I think I'll spend a day in Gothenburg first, and then take the train to Malmö.
BadgerLALA Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Nah, I think I'll spend a day in Gothenburg first, and then take the train to Malmö. Oh okay. And just so you know. The train is expensive and there may be delays
Beathe. Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 Oh okay. And just so you know. The train is expensive and there may be delays I'm going to Liseberg, so I have to go to Gothenburg (pretty sure they open in the spring sometimes). Also, I am in Copenhagen several times a year anyway, I want to go somewhere else. Apparently you haven't taken the train the Norway then, you're lucky if the local trains even show up. I don't think the price is bad though. Do you think I can get a student ticket with a Norwegian studentcard, btw?

It's the best if you want to ride as many rides as possible. No I don't think you will get a student ticket if you aren't a Swedish student.
