I could go on for days about why he's a douche but just to give you perspective here are two things he has done and you can then judge him for yourself: he has thrown microphone stands at his own fans injuring them to the point of needing medical attention and he literally kicked out fans at a Detroit show because they were chanting for the support band.

Also interesting that Halestorm was apparently slated to do American Idiot before 5sos. As anticipated, some of these sound like they could be halfway decent; others, I am frightened of already.

WMUWSE sounds like its going to be horrible with the screaming, it almost completely misses the point with the song. Also noticed the WTP cover the singing sounds blocky, just not fluid. As expected BFS sound like they did a really good job at St Jimmy. Also 5SOS's cover is not all that bad, actually compared so a couple it was pretty good.

Shondells Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Here is my thoughts after one run-through, my opinions and musings as it played out. AI Musically it sounds good (the guitars and arrangements) but the voices put me off. Also, why block out 'faggot' but leave in 'fuck'? JoS The first two-thirds are just so bland and it sounds like a drum machine was used? There is some heaviness in the final third but, overall, its more of a 'miss'. Holiday Retains the feel of the original but The Blackout make it sound more their own, which is nice. Not bad at all. BoBD This felt fun and Neck Deep came at it from a completely different direction. I don't like the lead singer's voice but, again, at least it tries to lend the song a different feel. AWTW Not impressed. Don't like the lead vocal melody. Having said that, it is a 'simple' song and so I feel hard to cover - need to either carbon copy it with own sound or go Neck Deep on it. This does neither. St Jimmy "Does exactly what it says on the tin" - Bowling for Soup play St Jimmy! Novacaine what AWTW should've been like - another straightforward song but Escape The Fate basically copy it while adding some of their own neat touches in (some neat double bass pedal, wanky guitars). It works. SaR Like St Jimmy really, its fine - spoken intro into a heavy breakdown raised a smile. Ex Girl Wow - majorly different. It feels like Frank Iero wrote this underwater while dreaming about running through syrup! Very haunting. It threatens to turn into 'Inbetween Days' by The Cure by the end though. Letterbomb Pretty straightforward cover - some nice lead guitar lines in there. WMUWSE The quiet/loud dynamic is neat but this song, because of it's meaning to BJA, is almost impossible to cover. There is nothing special here so it is pretty forgettable. Homecoming Oh god no! This version has no soul, no bite. Again it feels like programmed drums too. It sounds exactly how I thought AI: The Musical would do when I first heard about its concept. Ruined one of my fav AI songs here I'm afraid :-( Whatsername Lovely take on the song - retains vibe but New Politics put their stamp on it. I prefer the first half to the second, but the ending is cool too. He says "photograph" weird lol. Deffo one of the better cuts on this album. Bonus tracks - both fine covers of classics, nothing special but nothing ruined either.

Michael Clifford could be the next Billie Joe! What makes you think that people haven't heard their music? I have and I don't like them at all. Therefor I don't care about them, but when they're covering American Idiot for a tribute album, it isn't something that I'm going to be happy about. And about the next Billie Joe? Just no. The bands on the tribute album doesn't make sense to me, and at least not 5SOS. 'The ultimate tribute' okay then kerrang lol I know most of these bands aren't ~relevant~ or around anymore but getting blink 182, all time low, sum 41, good Charlotte, New found glory or adtr would have made more sense than flavour of the month stuff (bar bfs and ymas). Hell even the dropkick Murphy's or Billie's favs the replacements would have been awesome! I suppose kerrang just needs the sales now though lmao [/whinebaaawwhine] Agreed.
