Give_Me_Novacaine90 Posted March 6, 2014 Author Posted March 6, 2014 if he wrote it on his official website, i think it's true
Guest Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I've always wondered if he could actually play guitar, it's not like you can ever hear him live. 30$ for half an hour. No thanks. That's actually only a little above the standard rate for music lessons.
WhiteTim Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 30$ for half an hour. No thanks. Like c dawg standard rate for lessons Plus unlike most teachers he actually tours worldwide and has credentials...
Steven Seagull Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Maybe that's why I never had a guitar instructor. That's a ripoff price even if it's a standard.
WhiteTim Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Maybe that's why I never had a guitar instructor. That's a ripoff price even if it's a standard. How is that a ripoff? Not everyone is self taught guitarist and even self taught guitarist will sometimes get instructors help as well
Steven Seagull Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 How is that a ripoff? Not everyone is self taught guitarist and even self taught guitarist will sometimes get instructors help as well Well just in how many jobs you can get payed 60$ per hour. I don't belive you can have a good lesson in just half hour. Not to mention this is a skype lesson so it's not very different from all those other free youtube guitar lessons.
AngelBlue_ Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 This is actually a good idea... and oh imagine: "wow!! You can play really well! Who is your guitar teacher??" "Jeff Matika." SBAM.
Fuzz Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Well just in how many jobs you can get payed 60$ per hour. I don't belive you can have a good lesson in just half hour. Not to mention this is a skype lesson so it's not very different from all those other free youtube guitar lessons. Don't be an idiot. It's incredibly different to have someone who knows how to play an instrument actually work with you one on one rather than just watching some person on YouTube. This price isn't crazy at all, this is what I paid for piano lessons for 8 years. If someone is good at teaching then they're worth the cost. Some people want to learn on their own and no one is stopping them from doing that.

Not to mention this is a skype lesson so it's not very different from all those other free youtube guitar lessons. Someone can easily get 60 an hour in certain fields And yes Jeff is expecting for repeated lessons as he says first one is an introduction get to know with some instruction... Of course if you think you dont need an instructor then simply ignore the post

There are many great youtube channels with great instructors that share their work for free. If I am not mistaken Flea from RHCP has his own youtube channel too and he is teaching for free. Flea = bass god, Jeff = third guitar in Green Day.

But if you have a question about something on youtube you are most likely are not going to be answered while on Skype Jeff will answer your questions as well Noone is saying stop using youtube for this... but some may want a personal touch while taught...
Oxymore Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Wait what 30$ ? With all the $$$ they have, they still ask 30$ for an half hour ? God.
Fuzz Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Wait what 30$ ? With all the $$$ they have, they still ask 30$ for an half hour ? God. No on is asking you to pay. If you don't think it's a fair price, don't pay. Easy.
Cruise Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Wait what 30$ ? With all the $$$ they have, they still ask 30$ for an half hour ? God. Well Jeff wouldn't actually have all that much money, sure he plays is a huge band, but he only plays a couple of songs each concert and is not involved in the recording process. So its not like Billie, Mike or Tre or even Jason, is doing them as they would have a fair bit of money. Also due to Jeff being high profile there will be a fuck tonne of people wanting to have the lessons. If its free they all will try and get in. If something costs people are less likely to pay so you have less people who will take up the offer. So charging for things is not always about making money, but is used to actually control the amount of people who apply to keep it at a reasonable number. This is actually used in the entertainment venues when they are testing how well a new feature or activity will be received. They only have limited resources as they don't want to spend a lot of cash on something that they don't know if it will be popular, so instead of picking people they put a charge on it to limit the interest in it while they test it. I would say this is one of the reason Jeff is doing the charge, even going off one of his tweets there was a massive amount of people showing interest. Plus it doesn't hurt to make a few dollars on the side. I would pay it just to talk to Jeff, let alone have a lesson, which I would still do even though I can already play the guitar. I just don't have the time or money at the moment to do it as uni just went back.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 omg greenday is such a sellout jeez
Trina Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I sincerely doubt Jeff is rolling in it. There's no way he has similar kinds of money to the rest of GD. I'm sure they pay him well but there's nothing wrong with making money. If someone is good at something, why should they have to provide it for free? He doesn't owe fans anything.. I swear people expect so much out of these guys. They feel entitled just 'cause they're a fan. Lame. Besides if it were free, or cheaper (by the way, I was surprised how good the rate was, considering..) he'd be swamped with fans just looking to talk to him about Billie Joe or 16 year olds showing their tits or whatever. Anyway, I think it's cool. I'd be too shy to do it but I hope it goes well for whoever does and for god sake, I hope people don't bug him about GD. and it's a different thing from watching videos, to learn something where you can actually ask questions and get feedback, especially in real-time and to have things catered to what and how you need to learn.
petros Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I guess playing in front of thousands of people for a long period of time doesnt pay the bills!
WhiteTim Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I've always wondered if he could actually play guitar, it's not like you can ever hear him live. He plays St Jimmy with just him and Jason...

Steven Seagull Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Just to say ,In my country(Turkey) people can buy classical guitar for $45 USD with 1 month free guitar lessons. In murica you pay extra.
bjrules Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 30$ for half an hour. No thanks. I used to have to pay $32 for half an hour guitar lessons at school. I feel distinctly ripped off.
