Dolphin Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 "Better thank your lucky stars!" that Waiting is around, because it is a very good song despite it being different from most of their stuff. Waiting is so great, but Deadbeat Holiday or Castaway is my favourite song on that album. 3 Quote

Z J Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 WHERE WAS THIS TRÉ COOL DURING THE TRILOGY? https://soundcloud.com/roarkrevival/vendigler Is this him drumming?? If it is, nice. Still a different genre that calls for that intense style. But he definitely has more than what he showed on the trilogy. Quote
Dolphin Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I don't know why but waiting is just so great to me for some reason, probably is the lyrics. 2 Quote

Z J Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Warning is a better social/political album than 21st Century Breakdown. I have to disagree. On both albums there are some standout political tracks 21cb: American Eulogy, 21CB, EJN. (And to lesser extents 21 Guns and KYE). Warning: Warning, Minority (And to lesser extents Macy's Day Parade and Fashion Victim) And on both albums you could argue one or two other songs have political themes. Regardless, I think 21CB wins in the political realm because the themes are more prevalent throughout the album. Whereas Warning had a few tracks. And for as good as Minority is, American Eulogy, EJN and 21CB (song) outweigh it. Warning (song) is a weaker song but has some good ideas/lyrics. The big 3 on 21CB hit hard, using vicious yet poetic language. 3 Quote
WhiteTim Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Warning is a fantastic album with some amazing songs - the title track, Misery, Castaway and Macy's Day Parade are all top notch. It has its letdowns (Waiting) but then so does Breakdown (hello Christian's Inferno). That said, Breakdown is clearly superior in terms of arrangements and vocals. I'd say the two albums are on a par lyrically and Warning is better in terms of bass and drums. So they're pretty evenly matched ultimately, but Breakdown feels like a more epic experience as a whole while Warning has some great standout tracks. I wish they'd taken the acoustic-punk vibe further. This! Quote
Z J Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 More to the point is that him singing? It definitely is, which is why I wondered if it was still him drumming I was thrown by the whole damn thing tbh 1 Quote
WhiteTim Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 PROOF or it didn't happen. YouTube the song Downtown... Quote
AlissaGoesRAWR Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 ^ What Morrissey said, exactly what I was thinking (well not exactly) but kind of. Honestly, why are you spamming up every thread with posts like this instead of just repping things you agree with? 1 Quote
Dolphin Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 Isn't this a free country? I am just stating my opinion. Quote

Maid Meringue Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 ^ think it's hard to compare 3 albums to one album. Especially when Nimrod is far superior to every other album ever made on Reprise 3 Quote

Hermione Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 the only thing that sounds similar is the part where she sings the refrain.... the lyrics are totally different. As it's a very recognizable part of a very famous song that part is very noticeably similar though....so much so that Billie himself acknowledges it by singing "downtown..." (which is one of my favourite things about the song). I don't think it's a negative that it sounds the same, a lot of Warning is a deliberate tip of the hat to other styles, artists and individual songs. They did it openly, it's a tribute rather than a rip off. 1 Quote
The Platypus! Posted November 27, 2014 Posted November 27, 2014 I will never understand why people bitch on the trilogy I actually quite like it 2 Quote
