Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

As if Billie really cares if he's relevant anymore. Honestly, that's a pretty stupid opinion.

>implying opinions can be stupid

The only reason I tolerate Nightlife is because it is different and unique in the Trilogy. Otherwise, it's a sucky song and you shouldn't have based your username on it.

Oh, wait, maybe they can be...

They definitely can be. Some people like Rest.

Even worse, some people don't.

I will never dare to post anything anymore. Adam may someday use it against me, as he seemingly has an inexhaustible supply of quotes

I actually really like State of Shock - I don't know why, but I do.

I do too. Great song, would have liked to hear a proper studio version of it.

State of Shock's alright, but I think it feels incomplete/unfinished.

I mean I can see why it didn't make an album, from this recording of it. Though if it did, perhaps a finished version would sound better than the demo that was released, like with Oh Love and Ashley.

it happens, it happens, no problem with that, it is incomplete, y'know, cause it ends with """ Save your Last Goodbye"""... hence it proves to be a sort of INCOMPLETE song!!!..... ;):D:)

That's what I think. I like it a lot and I think there's something really interesting/unique for Green Day-sounding about it that I'm sure would be more prominent on a finished version.

Yeah I quite liked State of Shock. Very obviously not finished, and yet even in its not finished state, it's better than a fair amount of the Trilogy songs :P Also it contains one of my favourite lines from the whole era 'We all want to go to heaven but no-one wants to die'

Which apparently wasn't even written by Billie, but there you go

What does "singing out the alphabet" even mean? It must represent something since it was used in two songs.

They probably just took the phrase from State of Shock and put it in a song that they decided to actually release, similar to the phrase "I'm not playing with your mind, unless you think I am" from Gabriella that was ultimately used in Amanda.

I figured as much, but I never really understood what the phrase meant regardless.

Gabriella? I've been away for too long

Don't worry, the Green Day news world is such a dead zone right now, you have plenty of opportunity to catch up :P

"State of shock" is kind of a boring song, but it would fit good in Trilogy.

It's because it's boring that it would fit in well on the Trilogy.

Gabriella was a song written for the Trilogy but never released. It was performed at a secret show but there's no recording of it.

Gabriella:

Full Lyrics:

I'm not playing with your mind

Unless you think I am

You're crushing my heart

Like a battering ram

GABRIELLA

I need another fix

Don't need an intervention

I'm here to get my kicks

Accomplishing your mission

GABRIELLA

You are a dog's best friend

You ain't no Cinderella

You are a thunderstorm

And I'm your umbrella

GABRIELLA

I am the living end

I am a dying breed

I am a girl's best friend

I am a diamond ring

GABRIELLA

I love every single album they made, including Uno, Dos and Tre..I have all of them and they are so amazing.

Wow, I never realized how terrible those lyrics are... the umbrella/storm metaphor is the only one that's (barely) worth a shit, besides the line they ripped off for Amanda.

Y'know, I have to agree with you. Sometimes I forget that 21stCB exists, but when I rediscover it, it's as much of an experience as ever.

I dont think the Trilogy was really all that shabby at all...some people need to lighten up about it. I'm not going to credit the albums with having the best lyrical or instrumental content, but they still are great.

I have always loved 21stCB. It has amazing songs, with touching, forceful lyrics. The production is outstanding and Billie's vocals were never better. And the Trilogy is seriously growing on me, even Dos. I find that when I go to listen to GD, I will go to the Trilogy more and more often. OK, I still skip Makeout Party, but that goes without saying. I even started to like Nightlife. I can't even think of the last time I listened to Dookie.
